As much as I love Trace and am glad the name continues, it's not really 'Trace' anymore is it? It's all Peavey designed in the USA with very, very little to do with it's original UK origins.

Albums you think are crap but are critically acclaimed...

My vote goes for the Stone Roses debut. I find it really bland and can't see why it's held in such high regard. -
Totally disagree, thank f*ck Barrett left the band, otherwise we would not have the great albums that followed.
This times a million. -

Just seen that the Trace Elliot Facebook page has been updated with a new logo and banner for the first time in years (with a new slogan 'Providing the Pro Solution'). Have we got some new stuff on the way for NAMM? link here https://www.facebook...Elliot/?fref=ts

Is there a reason for the apparent dislike for active basses...
40hz replied to Rocker's topic in Bass Guitars
Unless the controls on your bass do something very different such as the filter EQ of the Wal or ACG, or they allow you to EQ each pickup separately, I really can't see the point as all they do is duplicate what you should already have available on your amp.
Although I like active basses, that is a very good point. -
IMO it's a given you'll change the strings on a secondhand bass. As long as the bass itself is satisfactory or as described then I don't see the problem. As others have alluded to, I'd always, always change the strings even if they were relatively fresh!

Don't you hate it when...? ("Stingray / SUB rawks" content)

I had the same thing recently, was thinking of selling my USA SUB as I was after a Marcus Miller Jazz but after using the SUB in the studio last week, I was utterly blown away by just how good it sounds. Around 9lbs in weight and easy as you like to play, it's a bloody lovely thing. I was an idiot for considering selling it. I've also just purchased a Status neck for it which should be arriving in a few weeks! -
The tiny toneprint selector switch in between the two toneprint knobs on my BH550. It's like it was designed for Lego men. It squishes your bloody finger and messes up the set levels on each knob. Also while were at it, the fact you can't blend two at the same time. Stupid stupid stupid.

Genuinely not bothered either way. 👍

Sold my Markbass cab to Pat today. Good prompt comms and willing to meet halfway travel-wise, a nice bloke to boot. Deal with confidence!

The Eq balance control acts like a pivot from the centre band on the EQ IIRC. To the left bumps up the upper mids and highs and to the right boosts the bass and low mids (or was it the other way around?!) It is supposed to be a quick way of fine tuning your sound to the room you're playing in, to cut boom and whatnot quickly and easily.
I thought that rehearsal rooms were made for learning and working out material, along with doing your "home work". I too, am old school, and believe that if you are not gig ready, you should not be on stage.
Nailed it.
I didn't realise until just recently that Ned Steinberger designed the NS (thence his initials for the name) model. A bit surprising since I consider his L2/XL2 an absolute masterpiece of design, and, to be honest, I've a hard time finding a Spector I don't find completely hideous. That said, the constant praise for these basses have got me, reluctantly, interested. I'm convinced now the build quality will be excellent. They don't, however, look like the type of bass I'd normally like the sound of. How could the Spector sound be described? Is there any song or video I could hear or watch that would give me a good idea of what makes them special? I'm a bit concerned about the lack of a mid control on the tone pump, since I'm very fond of toasty, nutty mids.
Some people may disagree but I'd describe the Spector sound (of my euro4 anyway) as fizzing, growling, grinding and hi-fi. Strong and distinct lows, prominent mids and searing highs. A real full range sound. It really poked out in the mix. Brilliant, brilliant bass.

Up for sale is my Markbass NY122 cab. 2X12 speaker config. Bought new from Thomann in December 2015. Gigged maybe 3-4 times at most and stored in a smoke free environment. In mint condition with no tears, rips or bobbles to the carpet. 4ohm impedance and 800w handling. Neodymium speakers, Adjustable compression horn. It weighs a very light 20kg. Easily copes with any stage size with lots of bottom end and presence if needed. A real one cab solution. Based in Chipping Norton and Worcester throughout the week, so halfway meet-ups or collection preferred due to item weight. Will knock off £20 for collection. Cheers for looking! Edit - Priced it a tiny smidge too high I think, so adjusted accordingly.

This is clearly a joke.

Watershed moment this year in that after 14 years of playing, I'm suddenly not bothered by what bass I use. As long as it has some element of treble extension, I can mostly sound the way I want with anything. I've owned everything I've ever wanted to own and to be honest, I've found there isn't this quantum leap between basses as a lot of people would say. A bass (especially live in most venues) sounds like a bass!. It's made me focus a lot more on physically playing and honing my individual style.

For me, Ibanez have always bought to mind 'metal' and also for me are a bit vanilla (IMO, YMMV and all that). However the real top end SR's are tasty instruments and I've come close a few times to pulling the trigger on one.

Had a Euro SE5 (think Sting's white ns2). That is, hands down, the best bass I've owned. A sound that is totally unparalleled. The most 'hi-fi' bass sound I've ever come across, even more so than a Modulus Flea I owned. Flawless construction and finish. A nice thin neck profile (not remotely 'clubby' as is sometimes said). It's probably the one bass I've owned that I couldn't retrospectively pick a fault with.

I've used a couple of different RBX270's on a few occassions. Great little basses. Good range of sounds, good build quality and really lightweight and easy to play. Impressive things for the money.

Neck Through or Bolt on, is there any practical difference?
40hz replied to Pinball's topic in General Discussion
Having had both, I personally didn't/don't notice any worthwhile difference whatsoever. -
The problem with TE, IMO, is that the GP was so integral and only valves in the chain could sort it out. That sound is outdated and things move on. SWR and a Jazz was the beginning of the end for TE, imo. Always new kids on the block..except Ampeg who are still in denial..
Genuinely curious? How do you consider the sound 'outdated'?. Up until recently I used a AH250 GP12smx and my sound is anything but 'dated'. In fact, using the graphic equaliser I would argue you could sculpt any tone you desired. From the deepest, dub tone to a bright aggressive tone with lots of sheen. Add in the valve preamp on the GP12 and you can get a warmer sound still.

Having owned almost everything I've ever desired it leaves only one now. A Wal. Mk1. Shedua top. Only problems are a 22 month waiting list and £5000. :'(
