  1. Always been SS for me. Nickel are nowhere near as rich tonally or have enough harmonic content for me. Plus every nickel set I've ever used (varying brands), I seem to kill very quickly. It's all about the Piano tone!

    Calluses

Been playing 16 years, rehearsing and gigging regularly and I also am callous free!
  3. That might actually be worse looking than a Bongo.
  4. Fell from the top branch of the ugly tree, struck a particularly springy bottom branch and bounced back up to repeat the process. 🤢
  5. I used them for my first 2-3 years of bass playing until I understood there were other string brands. 😁 They eat your hands, eat your frets and die quicker than any other string I've tried, usually after one gig. Started using D'addarios and Elixir (when flush) and have never looked back!
  6. For me, Power Windows by Rush. A Wal MK1 and Geddy Lee. It's a match made in heaven. Twangy, rubbery and aggressive as sin.
  7. Check out Walter Gervers from Foals. Brilliant bass player. A lot of Foals tracks have very melodic bass, Blue Blood being one of my favourites.
  8. I've been thinking the same recently, there are a crazy amount of bargains in the for sale sections that aren't selling, whereas in the not too distant past, you'd see a lot more movement on stuff. I think, anyway.
  9. I'd recommend the TC BG250 combo. Nothing touches that for the money IMO. It has an accurate onboard tuner and the toneprints are a huge plus, you could just about gig with one too!
  10. Not sure if it quite qualifies as 'super' rare but my 1997 Modulus Flea bass has the doodle signature headstock, string guides and original Lane Poor pickup. Non truss rod neck too, so it has the slimmer neck profile. Not too many of these around!
  11. 2x10 neodymium speakers 600 watt handling. 8 ohm Variable tweeter. Handmade in Holland 17kg (one handed carry) Retailing at £725 new. Had this up a while back but it's still not getting any use. Less than 6 months old in excellent condition. This cab has less than 15 hours playtime on it. Loud, smooth, detailed and clear sounding cabs. Perfect solution for smaller bar/club gigs. Collection only or meet up/delivery possible within a fair radius of Witney, West Oxfordshire. Will consider trade of a cheaper cab + cash my way. I'm very fussy though!
  12. Like many I started using earplugs about 7-8 years too late, now aged 32, I have tinnitus in my right ear. I don't care much for filters, just pure all out protection is all that matters now, 35db cut foam earplugs. I can hear the kick, that's all I need!
  13. Withdrawn the remaining cab. Used it at rehearsal last night and it was so impressive, there isn't anything else I could replace it with that blends it abilities so well (at this price).
  14. Too good a bass to let go. Sentimentality wins!
  15. Having owned a LM2 through a NY122 and now using a TC BH550 through a Vanderkley MNT210 (previous TC K210 cabs), I'd say the Markbass stuff was warm but a bit flat dynamically, there wasn't enough 'pop' to the sound for my tastes. My TC rig gave me that crystalline tone and presence that was lacking and even more so when I moved over to the VK cabs.
  16. Still available. Toying with keeping it however!
  17. https://youtu.be/UfzmVUrZplw My favourite. Paul Denman with some serious groove.
  18. I used to have a Markbass NY122 before these and I would say they are very different. These have a much nicer treble extension and a fatter more detailed sound. Real 'chub' to the notes but staying very clean.
  19. £500 In mint condition with less than 8 hours playing time on each. They still smell new! Selling as I have no gigs on the horizon and to have this sat in my living room is a travesty. Beautiful sounding cabs, fat and rich with a very detailed mid-range. Oozing tonal class. Will deliver within a 75 miles radius to Witney in Oxfordshire. Also happy to meet up. Will not post. 17kg in weight each 600 watts power handling 8 ohm impedance.
  20. The Kiloton is the only Stingray-alike I've heard that actually sounds like the real deal. A great sounding instrument. I second the Musicman USA SUB as an alternative (I just happen to be selling one 😂) however I'm not sure where you'd find a mint one for £400 (I paid more than that for mine 3 years ago). When pricing mine up and looking around the net for an idea, they seem to go for more than that now.
  21. That's fair enough! The table lists the BH500 which is the precursor to the 550 and 800 in design. As always with these discussions, I am just going by what my ears tell me and the BH550 I have is in no way lacking in terms of volume/power (I actually found it cleaner than the MB800 I owned funnily enough)
