Indeed very nice looking basses, looking forward to seeing #3 completed, I think the wood combinations will look stunning. I must dig out my permit to travel into Yorkshire (from God's own county of Lancashire).
There's a US one with a similar configuration on here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/208023-spector-ns-4h2-ex/page__fromsearch__1 .....
.....but down in the smoke so probably not a lot of use to you.
Just acquired a Tone Pump from David. Really helpful guy, good comms, etc., what's not to like.
As has been said many times above, deal with confidence.
Cheers
Alain
The actual 'shop' is a little out of town I think Alan just uses the address you will have seen for some storage. Well worth a visit Alan is really helpful.
Whatever you go for see if you can find one to try first. The stealth black one looks well worth a noodle and he has the holly and purpleheart bass 'in stock' too. You also need to bear in mind that I'm an ACG convert so my opinions may not not be totally unbiased .

Thanks for the link to ACG EAD - I heard mention of a luthier in the Borders so this must be the man. I love the look of the J-style fretlesses, but much prefer the natural wood bodies - but I'm guessing they're all beauts to play. If I decide to go for a quality instrument I'd rather go for an ACG than the models I mentioned above. This isn't doing my GAS any good at all though.

I saw you were in Glasgow so not too far to travel down to Moffat. You can have pretty much anything you like. The Graft range standard spec is minimum lacquer finish so lots of lovely wood naturalness to be had there.
Here's mine (#120 in the ACG website gallery).

This looks like a really good bass and the switchable p/up option will give you some serious bottom end (I've tried this set up on an ACG fretted bass):

I have one of Alan's fretless 4s and it is an outstanding bass and excellent value too.
I've been through a number of budget fretless basses and a MIJ Jazz fretless and with the benefit of hindsight, and in the knowledge that I would always have a fretless bass around, I should have gone for something further up the food chain straight off.
I have two bass related Ts, the Tesco one and one that says something along the lines of 'stay away from the bass an nobody gets hurt'. Oh, and an ACG one that came with my bass .
As the lovely Mrs ead would tell you my wardrobe is shockingly boring as I see clothing as purely functional and have no interest in buying branded stuff. I have no idea why she puts up with me at all come to think of it
I was down in the stalls and I got all the internal organ vibrations etc. so maybe it's like most venues in that where you are in the auditorium is quite important. Where I was I thought the sound was excellent.
I was at the Transatlantic gig a couple of years ago at the Academy 1 (Manchester) and when Pete Trewavas hit the bass pedals I thought my spleen was going to explode. Amusing for a minute or two but it completely compromised the rest of the sound from the band.

Just got home from Liverpool. Great gig, Two and a half hours of magic .

What he said.
Absolutely loved it and a great choice of songs too.
Thanks for the tips boys. The battery was the first thing I checked. After a bit more experimentation I think one of the volume pots may be the culprit, so I'll have to get the soldering iron out and start disconnecting and testing things.
Could I ask for some advice on fault-finding the signal chain of a c. 1996 Spector bass please?
Whilst the bass produces output from both pickups when plugged in, the output for a spector seems very low so I thought I'd work my way through the signal path to try to identify the fault. The treble end of the EQ seems a bit odd too.
The pickups are branded SSD and measure c. 37 x 88mm which looks like the EMG-35 size if I'm not mistaken. If I disconnect the pickups what level of DC resistance should I expect to see if they are healthy? Are there any other tests that I could do?
Thanks in advance.
