Ordered my LH5000 from Guitar Amp Keyboard, today £269, should be here by Friday tea time they say I will probably buy that valve just to see the difference, as i have never had any valve stuff before, apart from old radios and a Fidelity record player. (the one in this pic. yes i am that old) Now just got to save for the Barefaced can i want, unless... er no forget it

    Hartke LH500
I've had my LH500 for about a year now & I'm very happy with it (although I changed the cheap pre-amp 12Ax7 valve straight away after delivery, for a high quality Gold Lion one - £35)
can you explain a bit more re this valve swapping ? I am a valve neophyte and know nothing of this. I am probably going to get the L5000 this week. ps: where is a good place to buy these valves at a good price ?
  6.
The Gallery's response was a bit shocking.
Indeed it was, I thought for a moment id mixed it up with the bass cellar!
  7. When i tried to learn guitar,(not bass) years ago. I didnt have any books or videos, all i had was my music. I tried to learn a few songs, ot at least riffs, by ear. I just went around the fretboard till i knew by ear id hit the correct start note and went on from there, note by note. I knew nothing of chords and intervals, so the process was long and slow. When i moved back up North other distractions appeared and the guitar was put away. Many years later i picked up the bass. That was 20 months ago, and i had the internet to tutor me on all the ins and outs, along with a few lessons. I truly dont know which was the better method. To know about intervals and scales is definately a plus, but whether it better than learning totally by ear, i have to wonder.
How are you going to make sure the post-its stay in place?
nail them on of course.! ps: i wrote the (whole) notes in felt pen on the top side of my bass. (Gloss Polyester Finish) Of course this was only for the E string, which even now i know better than the rest. With your hand rubbing up and down all the time they wont last long (lasted about a month with me) I didnt feel too bad about it when i found that Paul Simenon had tippexed some notes onto his fretboard, as can be seen on early Clash pics.
  9.
My learning process was: Bought a bass. Went to lessons to find out what the notes were. Bought the songbook to Never Mind The Bollocks, by the Sex Pistols. Played along from the book. Couple of months, could play my favourite album, by my favourite band.
There is a songbook that has the bass parts on it for Never mind the Bollocks ? WHERE?? Enquiring minds need to know.
  10. isnt there a thread on here somewhere, of worst gig ever ?
  11. when i was a kid in the 1970's they said we'd run out of oil in 30 years and the world population would run out of food not long after.

    Hartke LH500

Arghh decisions decisions? don't know which one to get, I'm leaning to the LH500 as i can get a new one for £270, but i do love the AH 3500 in the tolex case. Maybe ill buy a 500 and build a tolex case myself. That'l have to do till i can afford a green Matamp. Got to get me a barefaced cab before that though, to hear the Hartke at its best.
  13. not exactly a mine of info on these strings is there? Used, unused? what type of rotosound are they and how many ? Just the four? a tad steep methinks.
  14. zeesh! you just carry on best you can with the remaning strings. seen bands do it dozens of times. or this:
When I was gigging as a guitarist rather than a bassist I would have never considered going on stage without at least one back-up guitar ready tuned and easily accessible in case I broke a string.
im sure thats what any half professional musician would do. Always have a back up in the wings.
  15. I have seen intense heat do that before. In the Electric Ballroom in London i saw The Ramones in 1980. Some fool had switched the already weak extractor fans off and within minutes the place was an oven (it was a sell out obviously) Dee Dee's bass was going out of tune every other number, then every number and hurredly swapped with the spare whilst it was re - tuned. After a few times that stopped working and the strings needed replacing! Well considering how hard and fast the bass lines were hit in most of their songs combined with the fact that a Ramones song is average 2 and a half minutes, the bass roadie was working like a trooper that night.

    Hartke LH500

Ok Dood, you've convinced me. Now where is the cheapest place to buy one The only thing im wondering about is why they price the less powerfull HA3500 at £100 more expensive ? Is it just because of an equalizer and built in compressor ? Also i dont understand how if they both have a tube pre amp that only the HA has the ability to swap between tube and solid state.? Err maybe i should wait for a second hand 3500 to pop up (i love the ones in the solid tolex cases)
  17. 3mm is too thick for me. But did someone say free sample ?
  18. you say: The size is: W 43cm/17" x D 28cm/11" x H 10cm/4" is that correct ? The only thing is the 'hole' that is going to be left in my huge Behringer combo, when i have taken the old amp out and slung it. Is going to be 8.5cm in height. Can you confirm the height is definately 10cm ? (does it include any 'feet' ?)

Whats the difference between the HA and the LH series ? (i am trying to buy an HA 3500, 5000 or a LH 500 but keep missing them)Is the
  20. This is tempting, but the thought of it being left to the tender mercies of the postman is just too much. Dont spose it has a case?

    Hello :)

Hi Sam, i cant play chords either, doesent stop me enjoying my bass though. Welcome aboard.
  23.
I wear my bass so that it's at the same(ish) height regardless if whether I'm sitting down or standing.
Good point, try to have it high enough so that you dont stand up to play, after an hours practice, and find yourself strugling with the change of reach.
  24. seen quite a few of these BH500 on fleabay recently. Heard a test video and was not overly impressed. I think id prefer a Hartke.
  25.
Personally I think a no-amplification rule is no bad thing. Living in a tourist city in which a load of often talentless chancers plug in to unnecessarily loud amps and play badly to baking tracks of Peruvian Pan-Pipes,
I would gladly throw the entire (so called) Peruvian pipe bands into the pit of Hades, en masse. If i ever got the chance. I Loathe the awfull din they fart out. PS: I agree on the backing tracks thing too. They should be outlawed. Its no more busking, than me putting on radio 1 and singing over the top.
