1. Might as well make this thread an Denmark Street is rubbish sticky. One comes up every few months anyway
2. i use flats on frets all the time.
3.
I think this chap is maybe Algis Kizys, who I saw playing for the Swans, on the 'Children of God' tour in 1988. The gig was at Newcastle's Riverside, and was without a doubt the loudest I've ever been too, and is legendary with Newcastle taxi drivers who took girls home who were crying from the sonic assault. Algis had an original playing style, from start to finish he punched and grappled his guitar until all four strings were left hanging off it at the end, and his hands were a bloody mess. All the while Michael Gira did forward rolls across the stage dressed only in a loin cloth. Without a doubt, a stand out gig of my life-time.
Dunno about that, Algis Kizys must be 50 if he's a day, and he came in with his dad ? (and he's from New York,)
4. Denmark street have now done the 'ex dave hill of Slade' trick, for awfull guitars at least 3 times to my short knowlege. All 3 times they have been called on it and not backed down till they were forced to. Dave 'H' Hill may have been flash and loud but he has style and was never crude. That thing is without a doubt the worst piece of junk i have ever seen. If i were a millionaire id buy it just to burn, as an insult to 'H' and film its fiery death for youtube.
5. a belated thanks for this, just tried it today. good stuff.
6. OT = Off Topic.
7.
Nice post, and taken on board. The only thing is, it would not cross my mind to phone a shop prior to calling. I've read a few threads about the Bass Gallery, and none (to the best of my knowledge) mentioned that it's best to phone first, and their site does not say by appointment only. My work situation means I travel around a lot, I found myself free, so got over there on the off-chance. I take the point about busy Saturdays and younger guys (which I was once), but I'm not an emo, and it was a quiet rainy old Tuesday. Anyway, lets not over egg the pudding here, I obviously got this guy on an off day, but it's a shame as first impressions last, as they say.
It wouldnt cross my mind to ring before i went there either. Is it a shop or a museum (shutters in the daytime ?) Anyway, i would like to offer a simple solution to the selling an expensive bass for a customer on comision, problem. If a bass is being sold on comission and instructions from the owner are 'only serious customers to try this bass' then would it not be better for both shop and customer, to simply print this on a bit of card on a string and hang it on the bass. Then its there clearly marked and nobody would be left wondering if they'd been given the brush off because they havent arrived in a Bentley with a Platinum credit card.
8.
I always thought the lyric was "My Mother Gummed My Weapon".
thats what i thought at first too edit: there seems to be a diff of opinion on google with gummed coming out tops.
9.
Zoom B2.1u Multi effects unit for sale. Perfect condition. Original Power supply, but no box or manual. Its a great unit, very well built (I was expecting it to be plastic, but its all metal construction). Very handy built in drum machine and headphone out. I bought it as a back up for my main effect unit but have simply never used it. It has a USB connection, and loads of great editable effects £65 plus £5 postage (or local pickup - I am near Preston in the North West) You tube link here Dave
you have a pm

11.
I was walking under Charing cross bridge and saw a great band playing outdoors but as i had my 7 year old with me who had spotted the funfair i couldn't hang around. The band sounded fantastic and i was very impressed with the bass player (playing a Fender Jazz). I'd love to know who there were.
you mean Hungerford bridge ?

cant get it to download or save ? (internet explorer 9)
13. It adds zero to value, it does add a modicum of interest to MK fans , you may get some of them paying a bit more, and thats about all. sorry.Unless its one of those limited edition Ashdows with his sig' on them then maybe a bit more interest, but again only off big MK fans.
14. If I can just throw a slight tangent into this thread. I have found a Pixies parody by Chris Morris, brilliant extremely well observed both in lyrical style and sonic useage . Its absolutely spot on! (audio only, unfortunately) Highlight below for the lyrics. Not that they are offensive or anything. I just dont want to ruin the listen for you. But they are here for your perusal later if you want. One, two, three well my mother is a whore let me tell you more my mother did something to me when I was twenty-three she spilt a cup of tea all over my knee I said mother, oh my god what have you done she said nevermind son lets have some fun your pantaloon is undone I can see you're well hung and then she fiddled with my cords and then she... my mother gunned my weapon this is the dawning of the age of King Oedapus King Oedapus I need a puss my mothers just as good as any other she drives me wild like a hyena gone manic lets get Hispanic! uh huh huh uh huh huh me mama es un whor-a uh huh huh uh huh huh me Espanol is muy poor-a ever since I've been at my mothers nipple, guess I've been a dipple now I'm fully converted I'm heavily perverted like I wanna have sex with a mutant ibex wanna whack my wand in the nearest pond wanna stick my spear in a stingrays ear now my mother got jealous of my new bedfellas/ started picking an argument she said son you're bent so I said aaaah she said don't want to cause offence but your making no sense I said aaaah she said don't want to cause friction but where's your diction I said aaaah she said express yourself another way we're ..... on the TA so I shot her as the blood spilled from her vest she said son they'll be no more incest I said I know mother thats why I killed ya and your dying body for necrophila
15. Well i for one didnt know either "the big guy from Penn & Teller" or Richard Hammond, played bass. So thanx. Any more ?
16. Ah, Gone are the days when Steve Jones and Paul Cook lived there, at the back of one of the shops, and used to regularly steal guitars out of the window displays in the daytime and milk off the doorsteps in the early morning. Scene: a Typical Denmark Street music shoppe circa 1976 Characters: Steve Jones. A SeX pIsT0L Manager: A tit. Steve Jones: Can i steal a guitar please ? Manager: Are you position to steal today, or are you just going to look shifty then bottle it? Steve Jones: Neither mate, I'm, Im just keeping you talking at the counter while Paul filches one from the window display. Manager: Well thats alright then, as long as you promise to take one with you right now. Were very busy today, I have already missed belittling a non suite wearing customer behind his back, then sniggering with my young be-quiffed asistant (thinks: whom I fantisize about thrashing me, with a vintage 1950s leather guitar strap every night.) Steve Jones: See ya, Ill be shredding it & spilling lager on it all night to make it look used then I'll sending Glen Matlock in tomorrow to sell it ya back. Manager: I wish they were all like you Mr Jones. Steve Jones: f*** off ponce. Manager: Touché Sir. exeunt
17. Have produced two new 'Black Top' bases. One with two pair of Humbuckers called the Jazz bass, and one with two dual coil pickups called the P bass ? Have i gone mad or is this just wrong. Or is it perfectly normal to see dual humbucks on a Jazz bass and no humbucks on a P bass, and i have never noticed before ? ?
18. I'd just leave it and dont worry abioout it. I know when ever i used to prick them they always stung and i regretted it.
19. Chris Morris (Day Today, Jam, Nathan Barley, IT crowd) He learned bass at StoneyHurst school in 1980. One of his bands were, The exploding Hamsters. There are a few pics of him avec bass in his biography. Cant find any online. 20. My Farida FJB20 is 5kg (11ib) and feels heavey but well ballanced. My Westfield is 3.5Kg and has neck dive so feels awkward after 20 minutes of standing.
21. They ran out of Green !! Arrghh No way' Surely i can buy some green naughahyde or whatever and ask them to use that. Man i has seriuosly set my heart on a 'Green' one PS: I'd always asumed the "Green" lettering was a subtle two fingers up to Orange (it being the same font). Is this true ?
22. Whats the diff between the "Green" GT200's and the black Matamps ? (i think the Green ones look much snazzier)
23. Are the GT200's the only bass amp Matamp make now ?
24. i pm'd him and said it is from '96
25.
Depends what you want done. I'd agree with Pickle that KGB are good, if a tad expensive sometimes. If you need a bass looking over though, might I suggest you get in touch via PM with Steve Soar, he'll take a look at your bass and do a bloody good job on it as well, he works from his home. I can personally recommend him.
Thanks for the relies. Does steve soar live local to me in chester ? (ie: 20 miles)
