1. Nice to see a decent attempt at a Stingray copy with a difference. Not sure how long they'll last before Sterling sees them and does a John Hall as they seem to have managed to copy the current EB bridge and are called the 'Ray 4' http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Retrovibe-RAY4-B...=item2c5482ebc2
2. I had my black Epiphone Thunderbird fitted with DR red devils and they were really growly for the bass but rough as a badgers @r$e
3. haven't looked at the picture but I'm picturing something along the lines of the beginning of Back to the Future
4. No pictures yet but I am now the proud owner of Squier VM Jazz fretless and fretted basses. I'm still contemplating seeing if I can swap the body of the fretless with one from a fretted so I have 2 identical natural finish Jazzes. I may swap the necks on both, sell the fretted neck on the sunburst fretless body and buy another VM fretted if I can't find anyone to swap with. not sure yet
5. I've decided to start with a basic mod first by installing a series/parallel switch I've been a fan of P basses for a while and from what I have been reading, this changes the sound to a fairly close approximation
6. Nope - that's the one all the Rick fans would sell their mothers for as used by Chris Squier, Roger Waters, John Entwhistle etc Although it isn't totally original - didn't think they were going for quite a high price as that.
7. cool - let me know how you get on with it.
8. I too have been contemplating this but according to what I've read so far unless you really don't like the pickups, the consensus is not to bother. I had been thinking about a drop in preamp like an Audere or something but do I really need it?
9. that's much cheapness -thank goodness I live too far away, of course I don't really want it as I am gas free. honest guv
10. Team up with someone who only plays with bright strings - that way you can go halfs on strings, with the other guy getting the bright zinginess and you get them when they go dull Or put a Wanted ad for dead strings
11. I've seen these things in the passing and since I now have a jazz for the first time in ages was wondering if anyone had ever tried one of these before http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-JAZZ-BASS-VAR...=item414f5a54e4 An Audere or East Retro would be lovely but they cost about the same as the bass they'd be going into. I've also thought about installing an active system either built into the pickups or a separate preamp but am having trouble locating one that will fit into the existing control cavity. i do remember that EMG used to do a JV model that was reviewed in Bassist magazine years ago but don't know if the JV model they do now is the same as it appears to have separate gubbins
12. try interparcel or click4parcels. the latter is usually cheaper but use the weight calculator in case the volume of the cab is higher than the actual weight. I shipped a trace 4x12" down south for £20
13.
Hi Could this be returned back to a 4 string? Thanks Scooby
Yes, you would just need to install the original bridge and drill new holes for the tuners by the looks of it.
14. Nearly every bass I've owned has been used in my wedding band from my 8 string to my 6 string fretless, Warwick, Modulus Flea, loads of Fenders, Squiers, Bass Collection, Rickenbackers etc. The way I see it, as long as you're happy with the sound on stage and you can be heard clearly with the rest of the band through the PA then go for whatever you like playing. I'm currently using a Squier VM Jazz bass and loving it. My HB 5 string fretless will be along any day so once I get it set up the way I like it, I will be using that as well. If my Aria doesn't sell then I'll have it out next weekend
15. Yeah, try as many as you can - I tried for years to find one that I liked and had almost given up hope of finding anything so just concentrated on fingerstyle until I read an article with Chris Squire of Yes where he mentioned thaat he used Herco heavy guage plectrums. Bought a couple to try and would not use anything else now. My plectrum playing has come on leaps and bounds since then
16. That's the first one I've seen without the green cloth over the metal grill - do you know if it was it made like that? Perhaps like the V-type combos the early ones had the cloth grill and the later ones had the metal grill does look good though These are bonkers loud
17. There's also the Musicman Sillouette Baritone as well
18. How much are you selling for?
19. If the bass was too heavy for her voice, you could always get one in a lighter colour yada da da da da baaaaaaaaarp bap! I thank you you've been a lovely audience
20. I've never seen a 4000 in a better colour than the azureglo ach, maybe my numbers will come up tonight. I used to have a right dog of a 4000 and always hankered after a decent one
21. I've always wanted to try one of these, especially since my skills with a plectrum are improving I'll need to sell my Aria first though before I even think about this one
22.
If i could afford it i would take this off your hands right now, its beautiful...
I could do trades with it for something you have (girlfriends excluded) or you could wash my car for a month + cash
23. It says Rickenbacker on it - that's probably enough for most people. Tom Petersson from Cheap Trick uses, among others, Rick cabinets for part of his sound.
