1. not necessarily - Fender also made basses with JV serials. I have also seen examples pop up for sale from time to time. JV just means Japan Vintage as the early models were designed to copy the original '57 & '62 original ones. SQ = Squier - hence the reason why MIJ Fenders tend to go from having a JV serial to an E one. There may be SQ ones but I've never seen one. Could the seller have a Fender and has sanded an area of the headstock to make people think that it may be a Squier? Values go up and down but I sold one in very good condition a few years ago for £400 - the serial number was in the low JV13**** range, just after they did the logo switcheroo
2.
you sent this msg at 5:28am hahahahaa was this you just getting up or just going to bed? hahahahahahaahahah
this was after a gig, 2 bottles of red wine and a pint of cider
3.
They're not really twins, the one on the left was born two years earlier so the one on the right is the evolved version, but both are MC924's:
The problem with these basses is that there's not enough control over the sound so which knob switches the telly on? very nice basses.
4. There's a Trace 800w @ 8ohms 4x12" floating around the for sale section somewhere. You could use this with almost any amp without PA support for almost any situation you may find yourself in. I'm using the lower rated 500w 2x15" version which is the same size through a Gallien Krueger head so its putting out something like 300w at 8 ohms and its mental loud. I use it for every gig no problems at all there's also a Trace AH150 or it may be 250 and contrary to what you may hear elsewhere this could drive the cab no problems at all as the older trace stuff is generally very underrated powerwise
5. I'm no expert but possibly putting to much power through the drivers causing the magnets to heat up and affect the sound?
6. bugger - Jack Bruce is calling me
7. Gallien Krueger are another company that say their amps can be used without cabs attached - I recorded my band's demo with the amp right into the desk with no cab
8. May be a bit optimistic with the price - looking like around £1300 brand new. If everything is in perfect working order then I woud say around £800 is nearer the mark
9. 000 grade steel wool is not going to damage your bass. Try it - you can buy it in B&Q. It is like night and day and absolutely no chemicals are needed to get you the smooth finish All it does it take the sticky sweaty crap off and make the neck feel like it has been coated in chicken grease
10. playability first for me - i sound like me whether I'm playing a Warwick Thumb NT5 or a Wesley purple acrylic see through bass Ironically one of the best sounding basses I ever had was an Epi Thunderbird Gothic Jobbie. Neck dive to buggery, even after the strap button move
11. Last night we were having a drink. My wife went up to use the loo. When she came back I showed her a bass http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Ohh, that's nice. She said That's good cos I just bought it when you were upstairs
12. Unfortunately I had mine when I wasn;t really into jazzes. I'd have another in a minute. Let's face it, the normal necks are slim but his one is sublime. Angry, aggressive sound in bucketloads.
13. If I was going for a 6 right now it would be a toilet seat Musicman Bongo just cos they have the fantastic MM build quality and the phenomenal 4 band EQ
14. Listening to CT right now - gig of the year for me? I'm also going to see Level 42 for the first time and Motorhead for the second time this year
15. I haven't seen that jaco one in a long time. That's really funny - I'm pissing myself laughing here and trying to no wake my wife
16. I've listened to all or part of Fragile by Yes nearly every day for the past 5 years. Siberian Khatru and South Side of the Sky are in my all time top 10 along with I know what Like and Carpet crawlers by Genesis
17. Exactamundo - the much overhyped JV series. To have the large Fender / Small Squier logo the serial number will begin JV0*** as generally anything with JV1*** or higher wil have had the logo switcheroo by that point. I owned a precision with a serial of JV13*** and it was nice. Perfect condition, rolled fingerboard edges but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. This was before they were going for megabucks - bought it on Fleabay for £200, used it for a gig then fired it back on and doubled my money I think the reason they changed the logo around is that they were literally too good and better than the MIA Fenders at the time so Fender wanted people to know that they were the cheaper alternative to the 'superior' Fender product. The Fender execs were literally in tears as the Japanese models were far superior in every way to the pish coming out of the US factory. There are Japanese Fenders from this period that I have seen with sellers trying to pass them off as Squiers as the Squier seems to be worth more than the Japanese made Fender from the same period A nice little slideshow of the one I had: http://img179.imageshack.us/slideshow/play...5183053vbj.smil
18.
Well, that Alembic is something special! I've had the hots for an Alembic for as long as I can recall, and that one just makes me want one even more! As with my earlier post, why the move from a 4-String to a 5-String?
so you can play all the Jaz Lochrie stuff that he does with Paul rodgers of course
19. I'm using a Squier VM Fretless Jazz exclusively for everything. I currently have no intention of changning it for anything
20. I've been after one of these for a while now just to try but am unsure what I would be willing to trade as I'm happy with everything I have at the minute some sort of a guide price would be handy to help with what to offer as a trade
21. I've checked out a link here on how to defret and epoxy a bass and am planning on giving it a try but need to source a couple of things first. I'm looking for some proper wood inserts to go into the slots left after I remove the frets to make it an obvious lined fretless - or should I just plastic wood them to save time and hassle? I'm also after a radius sanding block so I can level the fretboard/fingerboard/whatever after I've filled the fret slots and during the epoxy process - I can see them on Stew Mac's website but is there a Uk source for one? - I believe that modern Fenders are 9.5 radius so a Squier should be the same Once I'm all prepared I'll post the results as I go
22. weekend for 2 in february?
23. Bought this with the intention of modding it but its doing my box in so I would like to get rid of it as it is just taking up space. I bought it brand new from GuitarGuitar for £279 and its never been out of the house I'll post some pics tomorrow but what you get is the complete body and neck with black GB7 type tuners - the pickups, electronics and back plate have gone walkies - I have the nut and bridge but don;t know if I have screws for the bridge or not but I'll have a look There are a few marks on the body and a chip next to one of the pickup cavities and its one of the white ones. Not something I would post in the basses for sale as I just want rid of it before I do a London Calling round the back of the house. I'm not going to post his but would like to swap it for something that doesn't have to be bass related to make it interesting - cuddly toy, his & hers matching luggage, weekend for two in February etc. What've you got?
24. well I've just watched 'the top ten rock bands' on VH1 and number one were the Rolling bloody Stones . Ironically number 2 were Led Zeppelin who trounced them during the 70s Only reason you hear great things about the Stones is that they are the only band still going: 60s = Beatles were huger than the Stones but 2 of them are dead and the Stones are still going; 70s = Led Zepp were huger than the stones but their drummer died and the stones are still going. Apparently next years tour is going to be called the 'Steel Wheelchair' tour. What? I don't like the stones :snob: One last thing - who's Lauren Laverne? Is that her of Laverne and Shirley fame?
25. How's about a replacement neck for the Jazz but something a bit higher end than a mighty mite since you;ve got the cash? You can pick up necks from Ebay sellers such as ReliableFender and others in the US who get brand new or nearly new basses and take them apart to sell them bit at a time so you can still have an original Fender neck on it That way if you find you don't like it, you've still got the original neck to keep it stock in the event of having to sell it. My favourite 2 fretlesses have been my Squier VM Jazz and a mid 90s 3-band Stingray. Both sounded fantastic, both completely different although I can get the 'wherever I lay my hat' tone on the Jazz even though it was done on a Stingray
