That's a classic C&W bass - light blue, maple board, perloid or whatever its called plate, classic Precision style, rhinestones on the shoes and a big cowboy hat i can picture the confederate flag sticker on the case now

country and western player? They're usually big on that type of scratchplate material

I've just bought a Squier Bronco of Ebay to see if I like shortscale. I've always been intrigued with shortscale basses but haven't really played one for long enough

Bought one from him and waiting for it to arrive. I thought I'd order the longer one (he does 2 different sizes) I've decided in the end to make the lines invisible and am just working out what to do with top facing lines as the dots on the top will now be out as the show the middle point of 2 frets instead of on the fret which is what I need now.

Thanks. I'm doing this at my own pace so I've plenty of time I;ve taken the frets out and filled them. Once my radius sanding block arrives I'm going to sand it smooth and use the Liberon ebony wood dye I've had lying around for ages for such a project. Once its as dark as I want it I've got burnishing cream to clean up the board and make the front dots visible again. I'm not sure what the stage is after that before I put the epoxy on - lemon oil, denatured alcohol? I'll need to have another rake about.

The Lollar I had in my last Precision worked perfectly with distortion but they are wound similar to the original so if not a lollar then one of the SPB-1 or SPB-2 or anything more conventional

If you want the best bass combo then you're going to have to buy a Trace V-type. Not your average ladies lightweight, I'll have half a shandy combos there, just pure grunt and one of the best sounds I have ever had, certainly the best of any combo I've used: 1) Twin valve preamp - none of your pretend one valve warmth nonsense or Ashdown grind knob - this will overdrive to buggery 2) Its a Trace Elliot so its louder than it says it is and reliable as they come 3) It has one of the simplest but easiest to get a fantastic sound preamps I've ever used 4) Linking a 1518 cab to it will have the back of your trousers flapping 5) Its manly )0 it has a line in for your iPod There are others who will back me up on this but this is, of course, my own personal opinion on combos.

Parcelmonkey as long as its not too big although they do eff it up occasionally but three times out of about 40 shipments isn't too bad. Interparcel for bigger stuff but also try out click4parcels. I recently sent a humungus wheeled flight case for a 4x12" down south for £41. Interparcel wanted around £60 due to the size.

Can I get full power from my combo without adding a cab?
Delberthot replied to cameltoe's topic in Amps and Cabs
back in the day I ran a 7210H GP7 combo with a 1048H. It was only putting out 200w put it was plenty. More recently I ran a series V AH150 at 8ohms so it would've been putting out about the same as your combo on its own - I was using a 4x12" however so I actually had far more volume available than I needed. -
For me personally I can get Bruce's tone with anything. We do Town Called Malice and I've played it With many different basses - most recently a VM Jazz fretless and I can still get it. I have my bass setup so that if I play lightly, or normally as most would say, my bass sound sounds normal but when I dig in a bit I get a really dirty, aggressive tone - even with a fretless Oh and I play it with fingers as well I've got to give it plenty to get the sound right though for this tune.

Everything I've read so far points to applying several thin coats. I'm not sure if I could get a thick coat on very accurately

I have a shallow Gator for my GK 700RB II

I was on Stringbusters website tonight and a set I was looking at were available with low B or high C. possibly Warwicks

Funny how Bernard was always associated with a Stingray but every clip seemed to favour some kind of P bass variant

Thanks for the replies so far. Its given me a lot to think about. Since the bass was relatively inexpensive, I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible to may well got for the surfboard repair pack as it seems the cheapest, just need to make sure it contains enough. The only thing I've bought so far is a radius sanding block as I already had all the sandpaper and stuff.
Bright boxes? are these things any good? only asking...
very I'm playing with a Trace 2x15" V-type cab which has a fantastic bottom end but I don't get a great deal of zing out of it but with the 4052H connected to the link on the back of the cab or using the biamp function of my GK head with some special cables it totally opens the sound up.

I am looking to epoxy a rosewood neck that I am in the process of converting to fretless. I know how its done, what tools to use but a quick look around B&Q reveals hee haw and i don't exactly live in a large boating community to ask anyone What kind of place is likely to sell it in the relatively small quantity that I am going to need? i thank you
But I do believe that all Export JV's were Squier! Si
yes but there were higher end JV Squiers that were domestic only but I think they were mainly Strats and Teles. I'm glad that everything is straightforward in Squierland
But all the Fender decaled JV's have a small Squier logo on them......
Here is an example of a JV series Fender - not a Squier http://www.guitarsjapan.com/1982_Fender_JV...n_Bass_3TS.html I'm not into where they were made, if it was the same factory for both or if one was made somewhere and the other somewhere else or if they used the same parts or not but Fender JVs and Squier JVs are two separate things. A 'proper' Fender JV series bass does not have the Squier logo on it. The first Squiers had a large Fender logo and small Squier logo but confused many people who thought that they were Fenders - that is why they changed from that to 'Squier by Fender'
