1. I remember talk about a Cliff Williams AC/DC signature Musicman Stingray being made that was tuned E E E E definitely +1 for a John Deacon model I built myself a Phil Lynott tribute bass. pictures are lurking in the bowels of the gear porn section and I still have the scratchplate which is designed to fit a Mex Precision if anyone's interested. I haven't got round to firing all my bits and bobs up yet
2. If I take into consideration all the wheeling and dealing I've done this year and considering I bought my GK amp brand new and everything else second hand, I've spent about £300 net for all the gear in my sig.
3. I have no experience with the combo but the GK heads are amazing - it won't get dirty, saturated overdrive but you get a very musical dirty sound that is still very clear - hard to explain, you really need to hear one. They're designed to be virtually ikpossible to get a bad sound from them. As far as the price goes - the 700RB II amps on their own normally go for at least £300 on their own so this is a bargain.
4.
250wRMS, sorry should have put that in the ad! Still for sale as Sharkfinger PM'd to say he needs more power (nutter )
I had the 200w GP7 7210 version and used it with a 1048H 4x10" for bigger gigs and it was plenty for anything - plus it looked cool - there's currently a 1048 for sale in this forum to match it up for a bargain 6x10" trace rig
5. If those are real horseshoe pickups expect them to go for silly money - even Lollars would push the price up quite a bit
6. No idea how I haven't posted this before now The reason I very rarely post on the amps forum now
7. 2 of the bestest upgrades you can make to a precision
8. I used to play in a band that played the king of the jazz genre - Dixieland As far as I am concerned, the Dixieland Jazz sound is the best Jazz. Coming from playing in a big band where the dots were written in stone to having the chords written out was like a roaming dog having it's lead removed
9. I played the Intro to NIB by Black Sabbath at a gig in Galashiels and only realised when the guitarist came in that I'd began playing it in the wrong key. We had to stop and start again - my worst mistake ever. At the quiet bits in Do You Love Me by the Contours I play a slap bass part and the last time it does it a variation of 'Popeye' I sometimes do a Status quo type rocking of my bass when playing When we're giving the wedding guests a run through of a Dashing White Sargeant I tap some of the bassline. A few months ago we were playing Don't believe a word by thin Lizzy and I began playing Wishing Well by Free
10. Get yourself an old Trace 1518, that's what I used the combo with. An incredible combination and you can pick them up on Ebay for around the £100 mark if you are patient.
11. As a previous owner of one of these I can honestly say that these are some of the fastest neck basses and totaly amazing. Much better than Stingrays. Incredible sounds to be had In fact I'm talking myself into buying this one
12. Mainly no - I've owned many a top end bass but am currently happy with my Epiphone Thunderbird One thing I've never been able to get my head around are US made Peaveys coming out around the £1000 mark. I know they're done a lot of truly impressive workhorse rigs over the years but I still think of them as making cheap basses so have never considered them. If something looks bad then I;m not going to consider it, eg I;d never have a Stagg - my local Crack Generator / Smack Convertor usually has loads and the little metal badge on the headstock is always missing. If they can;t glue a little thingy to the headstock then it doesn;t say much about them as a manufacturer.
13. Bump
14. I had the same problem on my 20th anniversary stingray and part of the reason I sold it. Musicman won't let you buy a new one but what they offered to do for me was if I sent them my own one, they would send me a new one but if I remember correctly I would have to pay the full price for the new one.
15. Why do you want a Rickenbacker? If its to get the classic Chris Squire sound then you're going to struggle. I've had several Ricks and couldn't get a decent tone from them at all. Plus, unless you're skinny, I found that the lack of any body contouring made it very uncomfortable to play as your forearm digs into the hard edge of the body. Another thing I found is that for something hand made they're not terribly well put together or finished. I was unfortunate to own one of the famous midnight blue ones where the paint would run under the varnish making the white binding turn pale blue. I never liked Stingrays despite owning about a dozen of them. The best Stingrays are the 5 string ones which aren't really stingrays - they're Sillouette basses with the electronics from a Sterling (until recently) The closest I've ever got to a Rick tone has been from my EB-3 but with the money you'd get from this you could easily get yourself one of the Gibson SG basses.
16. How about this: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/...ird-Gig-Bag/DGA I have a standard Epiphone Thunderbird and it fits a regular Fender gig bag. Its tight but it does fit.
17. I was nearly burned at the stake on the Rickresource for suggesting that Lemmy's Rick was a copy and having a Rick signature model made for him wouldn't make sense as he's never played a real one. Just like posting on Talkbs that Jaco was pish I like a larf
18. Its all ready to go If you didn't want the bridge its only a 5 minute job for me to remove it - less than the time it would take you to come over for it
19. Day after birthday hangover bump and probably the last
20.
Happy Birthday!
Thanks I remember when all this was just fields etc
21.
Tony Goggle.....
I'm his greatest fan - I've downloaded all his records off limewire
22. Wasn't Alec John Such from Bon Jovi in a similar position to Sid Vicious whereby they only wheeled him out to gigs out of his nut due to legal reasons as they couldn't give him the spanish archer? Wasn't it was Hugh MacDonald that played on the albums but they couldn't release that info until they got something sorted out with AJS? Christ I've not even had a drink yet and I'm writing nonsensicle sentences. Ah, well, it is my birthday
23. Its my birthday today bumparoo.
