1. Tried to search for info on this but so far haven't been able to find any on here. Since my early teens I've had a hankering to get myself something like the Fender Bass VI that Jack Bruce used in Cream but being strictly a finger player I thought it maybe a tad difficult to play with the strings being so close together. Now I'm finding my playing style changing and I have the urge to play chords and other stuff that you can do on a guitar while still playing it as a bass. My question is: can I buy a regular guitar and tune it E - E using Fender Bass VI strings or similar or will the difference in scale length between a guitar and the baritone/bass VI be a huge issue? Alternatively, who makes a baritone that I can tune E - E cheaply enough but playable so I can buy one second hand to see if its for me before putting out a lot of money for one?
2. I use an OC-2 and a chorus for Billie Jean I also have a Boss Phaser which is fantastic for Scissor Sisters and suchlike I don;t worry too much about what the original sounded like as long as I can make it sound good
3.
In no particular order, and not necessarily present at every gig... Achievement, money, the joy of seeing smiling / dancing punters, meeting new people and old friends, being told the gig has sold well, laughing with fellow band members about daft / rubbish / scary gigs, travelling, learning new things, camaraderie, listening to great songs over and over again, marvelling at musical colleagues, punters coming up to tell you they enjoyed it, laughing at their / my mistakes, and - above all - those magic moments when the band is cookin'. For all of the above, I can forgive the bad times.
Have you been moonlighting with my wedding band? That pretty much sums up what I enjoy as well but you worded it better
4. I don't love every gig but I look forward to each one. Its bizarre but I'm always hearing stories about 4 or more bands on the same bill and moving/sharing gear etc but I haven't been in the situation of supporting or being supported by a band for 16 years ay least. Every gig I've done since then has been my band only and that's it so I can set my stuff up knowing that only my band will be on stage. I get an immense buzz from playing and a greater one when the crowd are getting into it as well. I played a 40 minute slot at the singer in my rock band's retirement do a couple of weeks ago in Waxy O'Connors in Glasgow. it took longer to get there and I did it as a favour for petrol money and he bought us all drinks ( I was driving so I was on the cola) The only time I can't be bothered is when there are loads of 'singers'. It makes for a very disjointed night, especially when they're still coming up with 10 minutes to go at the end of the night and I'm wanting to get things cranked up for the last few tunes before we finish. Other than that I generally have a good time at most gigs. We're more interested in having a laugh than talking about gear or songs etc - luckily we're all good musicians so we can do this without it affecting our performance Our last practice for the wedding band must've been at least 6 years ago and 8 months for the rock band
5. I had a transluscent teal and it was hideous in the flesh - didn't look too bad in photos
6. that'll get pulled anyway as he's specified bank transfer or cheque only
7. Chrome covers sold and on their way
8. I normally use microsoft image resizer which you can download for free. for here I find the best size is small. I then upload to either imageshack or photobucket and post the link
9. from the top of page 1 to page 2 in 7 and a half hours. lots of activity going on today I just thought I'd clarify something as I hadn't thought about it before - the neck is 4mm narrower at the heel than a standard Fender neck so it wouldn't be just a matter of swapping necks but then, why would you want to lose that wonderful maple growl? Also means that its a tad slimmer for smaller or more nimble fingers
10. a budget unlined fretless that you can modify? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=102363 you live close enough that we could meet up - £150 and its yours
11. A fine combo owned by a few of us on here - I always say it but this is the best bass combo you can get and it always comes up when I'm skint. Always wanted to see what damage I could cause with this and my 2x15" cab
12. a fantastic bass but one that's not for everyone. Prices are a bit wild at the minute, if you do a search on Ebay for Fender basses in Japan available to the UK, they're coming in at around £800 new whereas a year ago they would've been around £500 or less. Second hand they go between £350-500 roughly. Yours has a case, is in great condition and is an older model so I would be putting it up for £500 at least to begin with. I've had 2 and they are brilliant basses but I couldn't live with the lack of body contour
13. The bass owes me £150 so I've reduced the overall price to £160 which will include shipping to mainland UK. This is the absolute lowest I can go so I would need payment to be made by bank transfer or cash on collection to avoid any charges. If collecting, its yours for £150
14.
Go for it. But it can be a bit of a headache when your fellow band members are out of tune[ guitarists/ singers]
that's the beauty of fretless, if someone is out of tune, even if its you, just move slightly up or down the neck to compensate
15. after receiving a question about some of the parts that I am selling I've noticed something odd as well - The Squier body I am selling has the entire neck pocket painted and the pickup route and control cavity have that grey anti hum paint stuff there so there is not a single piece of bare wood to be seen. I know its not exactly the same but I;d never noticed that before so could it be entirely possible certain custom colours were painted everywhere? I mean Fender did some bizarre things like painting over other finishes so who knows.
16. I've now bought another bass so I'm accepting offers of a sensible nature
17. When I saw the Damned & Motorhead last year, the guy from the Damned had a P bass and it was pretty close.
18. Once I've checked out the thunderbird I've just bought it will probably mean that my standard one will be up for sale. It will still probably be a couple of weeks before I get it depending on how quick they ship it and how much they want to charge me so if there's anyone interested then let me know. 19. I recently bought a Hipshot Supertone bridge to fit Epiphone and Gibson basses with the 3 point bridge but I've just gone and bought a Gothic Thunderbird from the US and it already has one fitted. These allow easy adjustment of height, intonation and even string spacing and the saddles lock into place once you've adjusted it to your liking. I'll give it a few days on here and if there are no takers, I'll fire it onto Egay Exactly like this: Finished in black which should suit the majority of Gibby or Epi basses out there. this one is slightly more expensive that the chrome one, although not as much as the gold one. These are nigh on impossible to buy in the UK so you have to get them from the US - Best Bass Gear are looking for £91 delivered plus whatever the post office take, should they take anything so I am looking for £80 delivered. This bridge is brand new in its packaging and has never been opened. Comes with 2 different types of bolts to secure to the bass and 2 different allen keys.
20. the 1818x was designed to be used with one of the bi-amp trace heads like the AH500x so you could feed the lows to the 18 and the highs to the 10. I think it runs full range when connected to a normal amp. One input is full range and the other is biamp, one is 1/4" jack and the other is XLR I think
21. The one I always wanted was BA55 MAN or B4 SSY
22. try this
23. If only I had the cash I'd be all over this like a cheap suit
