Bassists who don't play on their bands records?
Delberthot replied to MacDaddy's topic in General Discussion
Norman Watt Roy was jamming on his Alembic and Trevor Horn hit the Record button and used it for Two Tribes Roger Waters - Mostly played by Dave Gilmour, very good fretless player Alec John Such only appeared for promos and tours, it was Hugh McDonald that appeared on their records but the coudln't get rid of AJS because of some legal thing John Lennon played on a lot of Beatles songs and Paul McCartney played on every solo that features distortion cos George Harrison hates using it, eg Taxman -

Having had a really, realy, really good look around at what's available and reading reviews on them all, the Mike Lull ones are the best but I could buy another 2 or 3 of these brand new for that price so I'm going to keep it standard and just add some small touches to it as I go.
Although he says "Worth £650 brand new" :-) rather than RRP... And it comes with a hard case, guitar lead, tuner and (count them) three straps.. So maybe would cost £300 new... This is another bit of hopeful listing... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Cheap cab, vanilla power amp and the wrong Line 6 XT pod pro (damaged as well)... Whoever sold this rig (or recommended it's assembly) should be shot.. Mark
Ah, the old Behringers with the shattering speaker cones. Managed to shatter all 4 of mine. Behringer sent me a brand new one which prompty went on Ebay
Ok so would a 250 watt trace head with a 4x10 cab be load enough for a reasonably sized gig, say 250 people? Any reasons why theyre loade than other makes?
PA or not? Either way it should be enough. They're louder cos they were very conservative when quoting output figures unlike certain brands that quote impossible figures, especially when it comes to speakers

EBMM ray 5 to precision deluxe - good idea?
Delberthot replied to longtimefred's topic in Bass Guitars
how about selling it and getting a Stingray HH or HS? -
i had the exact same thought process. The brightbox would be great but weighs about the same as the compact again at least.
I was about to say you were a big jessie but just lifted my one and you're probably right You wouldn't want it - its a proper man's speaker

I've decided against getting myself a Gibson, especially since the cheapest I can find a new black T-Bird is £1150, I'm not a fan of neck through basses and I don't like the strap button on the back of the body so I am going to make a couple of subtle changes such as changing the tuners for Gotoh GB7s and trying to find a set of Gibson Thunderbird or Les Paul pickups.

I used a trace 4x12" with a Mk V putting out a theoretical maximum 90w and it was very, very loud. Their cabs are beasts as well - the 1528 I am selling is a very loud cab. I have the input of my GK 700RB II at about 11 o'clock and the output at about 7 o'clock, ie just on and no more and its very, very, very loud Did I say they were loud?

you could try the Trace Bright Box for sale here (not my one) Make a huge difference

Nice - fancy one of them myself

This is my minty Trace V-type cab. This particular cab has been very well looked after as for much of its life it was housed in a road ready full flight case. This weighed as much as a family car so when I bought the cab, the first thing I did was to sell the flightcase and buy a cover. I didn't want just anything so I went for a Roqsolid cover at a cost of around £50 which is very well made, padded and moisture resistant so wheeling it in and out of gigs on wet or snowy nights isn't a problem. The cab is in 9.5/10 for condition, even disregarding the fact that its about 15 years old. The only real marks I can see are a small chip in the paint on one of the handles and a small part near the bottom right where there looks like a very small tear in the carpet but you could probably just go over that with a black marker and you'll never notice it. The cab weighs in at 45kg which is still 20kg less than an Ampeg 8x10” and actually not much more than one of their 4x10”s. To aid moving the cab around, I went for the biggest casters I could find to cope with most surfaces and opted to have the front 2 as lockable ones at a cost of £20 for the set. The spec of the cab is 500w @ 8ohms and has both 1/4” jack and XLR inputs and outputs. The dimensions are 74cm wide, 84cm high (including casters) and 36cm deep. I am currently using this cab on its own with a Gallien Krueger 700RB II which can put out 320w @ 8 ohms but I have the amp nowhere near that. I'd be surprised if I had more than 200w going into the cab. The reason I am selling as it is completely overkilll to be using this as a monitor with my wedding band and I don't play often enough with the rock band to warrant having it sitting in the house doing nothing. This cab is incredible, I have to say that it is the bassiest, clearest cab I have ever played though and don't want to sell it but a lack of use means it has to go. Now, as far as cost goes, I am looking for £300 ONO but am open for trades as I realise that most people (including myself) don't have a great deal of money right now. The main trades I am looking for would be carpet coverred Trace Elliot cabs: 1153 Compact 1x15" 2103H 2x10" 1518 Full size 1x15" 1818 1x18" beast I am also interested in getting myself an Epiphone Thunderbird non-reverse 4 or preferrably 5 string These would be all plus cash in my direction. As far as other trades go, try me, there's nothing else specific I have in mind but am not interested in amps or fretless basses or anything with more than 5 strings. If you are interested I may be able to add my coveted 4052H bright box for the right price but will probably regret it as soon as I do it. Postage is steep at £50 but I have been unable to get it any cheaper. I could meet up with you as well depending on how far away you live - for a straight sale I would only be looking for the cost of my fuel but for trades then i wouldn't. The pictures:

Just had an email back from Stringbusters - they're on their way over by boat as we speak. They're going to get back to me next week.
+1 to that - My Epi Les Paul was a great guitar, but put up against my old Gibson Les Paul Studio, the sound was wayyyyy different. Alder to mahogany, made a difference. Whether or not better, well thats for the individual to decide, but certainly woods and components will affect changes.
That's the whole reason I sold my standard alder bodied Thunderbird and went for the goth as it has the mahogany body. I'm actually not a big fan of through neck basses so may very well get myself a set of Gibby pickups and fit them to this. I actually don't like how the strap button on the Gibby is on the back of the body like the SGs. Its fine if you're skinny but this position leads to the bass being pushed away from you if you've got a gut.
