    I get over this predicament by trying to only own 1 bass at a time. That way I don't have to think about what bass to take as iI only have one. I've never been one for having a bass for this and a bass for that. Personally, if I can't do everything on the bass I have strapped on at that particular moment in time then the bass isn't good enough. Tonight I played an entire wedding gig with an Epiphone EB-3. Everything from Journey, The Killers, Queen, The Jam and the Clash to Nat King Cole and the accordianists we backed during the night and it was able to sound right in every song

    I could easily have kept any of the 70 odd basses I have owned in the past but I get a buzz from trying new basses that I've never had before. I've had some surprises with basses that should've been great but weren't and cheaper basses that were far better than I had expected. And I totally agree about different basses that can make you play completely differently - the Epiphone EB-3 that I have just now is an example. Sits on a strap completely differently to most other basses I've owned so I approach playing it differently. I was able to do some cracking riffs tonight that I'd either not been able to pull off on any other bass or something completely new that I hadn't thought about playing until tonight

    By far the best sounding combo available ever as far as I'm concerned - everyone should own one at some time. I think a lot of us have. The one I had was owned by 3 or 4 forum members before me and has gone to another. If you write in capitals then its looked at as if you are shouting or raising your voice. We were just having a laugh, you maybe didn;t realise the meaning of capitals on a forum - a bit like the whole OMG LOL IMHO GSOH etc

    Just back from tonight's gig - goodness gracious great balls of fire This thing is mental. If you like Jazz basses with the focus predominantly on the bridge pickup then this bass is the equivelant of the Jazz's older, tougher brother. It does honky very well but there's so much more oomph coming from the humbuckers compared to the single coils of the Jazz. An interesting analogy(sp?) is that if you've seen the Spongebob movie then the Jazz is the bad guys in the bar - tough, growly and in your face. The EB-3 is the guy that's been paid by Plankton to kill Spongebob and Patrick who makes mincemeat of said 'tough guys'. Played with a plectrum, this sounds more like the Rickenbacker sound you hear on records that any Rick I've ever owned. Solo the neck pickup and you have instant Jack Bruce from the olden days before he got the Warwick fretless Thumb with the trademark 'Jack Bruce Fart' sound. You also have instant Fender Telecaster bass - from memory, this sounds almost identical to the 1973 Tele bass I used to have. I am going to have to have a think about whether or not I really want to sell this or not. Until I decide, fire any trade offers to me - you may have something of interest to me. Alternatively, cash would be the preferred choice

    bizarre - I was watching an INXS vid on youtube last night and thought that it looked like the guitar version of this. It is absolutely amazing looking and I'd be kicking myself if I had one and then sold it. Its one of those rare basses that you're meant to hold onto - all the other crap can go. Rare in the sense that so much passes through chez Delberthot but that's defintely a keeper and one even I'd hold onto

    Wanted one of these for years, got one but its just not for me. Practically brand new, it does have a small mark on the laquer at the tip of the headstock, other than that I can't find any other marks on it. Mahogany body with mahogany set neck and rosewood fretboard. 2 humbuckers and individual volume and tone controls with pickup selector switch - much the same as a Rickenbacker. It actually balances remarkably well considering the shape. I'm going to be using it tonight with the wedding band by virtue of the fact that my fretless conversion isn't finished yet and my Bronco isn't here yet.- I haven't used it yet with the wedding band so we'll see how it goes i would prefer to sell but if you have anything interesting that you'd like to trade of the bass variety then let me know and we can maybe work something out. £170 delivered to mainland UK and comes shipped in a Fender gig bag.     didn't they do something mental like an 18", 15" and 4x10" in one cab as well? The trouble was that no one wanted to lift the buggers so they had to make smaller cabs

    I used an AH150 through a Trace 1248H so the amp would've been putting out about 90 'Trace' watts had I felt the need to actually turn up but it was loud as hell with the amp turned down quite low. When I was over seeing Chris (Thornybank) I was fortunate enought to be able to try a lot of Trace gear from all periods and the more modern it was, the more compressed and 'sucky' the tone was - the best was the old Mark 2 combo (I think that's what it was). The older cabs were phenomenal as well.

    You need a GK 700RB II and a trace 2x15" (there;s one on Ebay now but collection only) Everyone's going to have their own story but I went through the phase of wanting smaller and lighter and this and that. The best results I've had for oomph have been with mainly older Trace stuff: V-Type Combo & 1518 cab 1110 4x10" Mark V combo with the same cab 7210H & 1048H Mark V AH150 with Trace 1248H and onto the rig I am using now. We've all heard it before but unless my back gives way or something else happens, this is my rig for as long as I can lift it.

    I'm in the middle of defretting a Squier Precision Special and I've found the build quality to be excellent. I bought it used on the forum for £80. I originally bought it to try my hand at properly defretting and epoxying a bass neck but I'm really getting into it and have decided to make this a cheapy project to be my main gigging bass

    corrosion or dirt? corrosion - If the plating's coming off then you can get the parts replated. dirty - soak the parts in cheap cola for a few hours, dunk them in water then dry thoroughly

    A battery in my stingray would generally last anything up to a year before I changed it which I then put in my tuner which would last another year, so yes, it looks like there's some kind of permanent circuit happening which is causing the battery to be constantly on

    This is a bargain for what looks like an 'as new' bass that has been setup and has brand new strings fitted

    If the bassline is instantly recognisable then I will play it exactly like it should be played, ditto if I think that a bassline is so good that to change it would ruin the song. The song should still sound like the original but if the original was bland then I will add what I think will improve it - Daydream Believer by the Monkeys which we still get asked for is an example where it is really dull and boring so we pep it up a bit to give it more impact. I normally focus improvs at parts where there isn't reallything happening as regards vocals or guitar solos etc. That said I do a slap bass bit at the drum break of Do You Love Me by the Contours It is easy to get carried away sometimes as the drummer and I have been playing in bands for years and he is very talented. 9 times out of 10 the audience won't notice as long as it isn't completely noticable that the song sounds terrible due to someone playing utter garbage
