  1. Bought a ditto looper off Rumple recently, fantasticly easy to deal with and all round nice bloke!
  2. I played my first gig with my new band yesterday, using an amp I bought off here this past week. It's an Ampeg SVT6 pro. hybrid tube preamp / SS power amp, 750 at 8ohms running into a Genz Benz 1000w cab, although at the gig I was using the house cab, I don't know what it was but the same issue happened on both, so I'm assuming it's the head. Should probably mention that I had the gain turned up pretty far, but there wasn't much, if any, distortion coming from the amp, I also had the tube voltage control turned up to about 2 or 3 o'clock. Problem is it randomly seems to drop volume significantly. This only happened at the start of the show, but the amp had been on for a good few minutes by that point. At home I noticed it, thought it was a bit weird, so I turned the amp off just in case I was damaging it, at the rehearsal I changed the genz benz cab for my old 400w 410 and 300w 115 laney cabs, it was fine after then. At the gig it happened on the first song only, then it was fine afterwards. Is it just the tubes not warming up? if so, how long should I give them? Also, it doesn't seem as loud an amp as I was expecting. My old Laney 230w solid state head seems to be able to keep up with it just fine. The ad said it probably needs a service, is there anything that could be making the amp quieter than it should be? I was expecting to be way louder than my old amp! Granted, I know nothing when it comes to amps, this is my first foray into anything tube. If there's anything you guys could advise me on, that would be awesome! Cheers Jack.
  3. Just bought a 4x10 Genz Benz cab off Lou, great communication, able to sort out picking it up with EXTREMELY short notice! Would definitely deal with again. Thanks again for the cab!
  4. Hi all, sorry if there are threads about this, I searched for a bit and didn't quite find the answers I'm looking for. I recently joined a band that tune to D standard and occasionally drop to C. At the moment my Jazz bass has TI flats on it which I adore. I'd prefer to keep flats that feel similar to them if possible while not feeling too floppy when I detune. I have a hipshot d-tuner so I guess I need strings that can handle the shift in tuning often. So basically I'm kind of lost as to what my options are. I'm going to be getting my bass set up at the Gallery in Camden, so if all else fails I'm going to just trust in what they suggest, but I'd rather have some knowledge going in. Any suggestions? Cheers Jack.
  5. Main thing for me was that whenever I play a P my fingers always hit the pickup when I'm playing on the upper strings. Only real reason why I'd want to have them reversed is to avoid this! Granted I could, and probably should, change my playstyle instead, but I don't want too
  6. Love these basses, I've got one of the 5string models. The inlay is what first caught my eye as well, never got the chance to play it before buying, but I'm so glad I did! I was into metal at the time, not anymore so sadly it doesn't get played live, although I still love the bass for it's sound! It does a fantastic bassy overdrive, great for hard/stoner rock music, but it can also sound very...well, musical! I put rotosound flats on mine, very interesting sound, still sounds great after 3 years of them being on there! If anyone's not sure about this bass just because of the look, believe me when I say they're far from one-trick ponies! For this price, you'll get a bargain you won't regret.
  7. Don't suppose by any chance you'd be interested in a trade for my fretless would you?
  8. I don't see any problem with having multiple basses, so long as you've got the money to spend on them, it's up to you really! Let's be honest here, I think we'd all love to have a room full of basses, basses and more basses! Plus we all know that two of the same model can feel and sound rather different, especially if strung differently! Personally I'd love a P with flats and another with rounds, perhaps even 2 jazzes and 2 rays set up the same... In short, I don't see why you should stop yourself. Aslong as you're not spending literally all your money on them that is, haha.
  9. Love it, I think there need to be more cream covers on basses! At some point I had an urge to change the covers and knobs on my VMJ to cream ones, and honestly I've still not seen a sexier bass, haha. The covers/knobs match the body and neck nicely, while the black bridge/tuners/scratch+control plate match the black blocks and binding on the fingerboard. It's bloomin' sexy I tells ya! So yea, definitely go with the cream!
  10. Is-there-any-point-to-this bump? May as well have a crack at trying to sell it still eh?
  11. I really want to try the GB4-custom model they have, looks like it has awesome specs. Not to mention, an affordable bass with a spalted maple top? Yes please! I've seen online places selling them for about 650$, so that's what, about £450-£500? Maybe less? I can't remember what the exchange rate is like atm...Anywho, as soon as I find a shop in london that sells one, I'm gunna go get my hands on it.
  12. Go for what you want! Restoring them to original colour might give you little extra when/if you sell, but not much. Definitely worth to have 2 basses in your fav colours imo. Personally i'd go for fiesta P with tort pg and a snoic blue J with pearloid pg
  13. I think the string guage thing is more to do with the bridge isn't it? Although I've not heard many great stories about their truss rods either. I could be wrong, but I think it's because heavy strings tend to lift the bridge quicker (Presuming you're in standard of course)
  14. Awesome! thanks fellas, most helpful indeed I can't really be bothered to carry on trying to sell it, it's been so long since I started, dropped the price below what I want for it, and I'm sick of it being there, lol. Also, sadly I can't take the neck off, it's a neckthru, so nuts to that option Cheers Jack.
  15. Wow, thanks for all the advice! most helpful The buyer says he's willing to pay for postage and I told him that I'm not taking any responsibility for damage to the instrument in transit. Trust me, I'd really rather not ship it anywhere, let alone out of the country, but I've had such a hard time trying to sell the bloody thing that I just can't be bothered to be picky anymore. It's a great bass an all, but now it's just taking up room! I'm giving him the hardcase for free though, I got it for free so I'm not really losing out as far as I'm concerned. Don't want to charge him £20 for something I got free. Will any old post office do? Or will I have to take it to a larger one? There's one just down the road from me, but it's not very big. Oh, and cheers for the offer Charic, but i'm in london, i'm sure there's plenty of spare cardboard floating around this filthy city for me to ponce, lol. Cheers Jack.
