1. That probably answers my question as well - I have a couple of Japanese Boss pedals that I don't want to put the velcro over the label in case I sell them and the label gets damaged so they have a habit of separating from the glue back on the velcro itself and rolling around inside my pedalboard. I didn't buy them cos they're Japanese or filled with Mojo and suchlike, I just happened to get 2 pedals at a really good price that happened to be Japanese. To Homebase after work methinks
2. I've owned 60-70 basses in the 22 years I have been playing. I've never owned something as expensive as an Alembic or a Fodera but still, the most expensive bass I have ever owned would probably be a Warwick NT5 Thumb bass. I have 2 gigs under my belt with my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass and am very happy so far but with my previous record it could be away tomorrow. I am really loving the sound or rather sounds that this thing can produce and it has one of the lowest actions of any bass I have owned. I have owned MIA, MIM, MIJ and MIJ Fenders and JV, SQ and this current Squier. I am happy to be going out every weekend with this well balanced, well made bass that cost me a tad over £200 brand new in the knowledge that it is going to give me everything I need
3. For a combo that sounds as close as you can probably get to an all valve amp - check out the trace V-Type combo on sale here. A few of us here have had them and they are seriously good
4. I'm surprised it took as long for someone to go for it at that price.
5. Good replies so far - the main reason I asked is that I have taken 1 amp and 1 cab to almost every gig I have ever done so this is all new to me. I'd never thought about a small guitar amp before - I used a Trace head putting out a possible 90w through my 4x12" on Sunday and still had bags of volume left that i didn't need
6. There's Red Dog down the Grassmarket that used to be Sound Control and then there's the other place in Ocean Terminal I think. That one is run by a former band mate of mine Jon Clark or it may be his son. Same guy that has mijfenders.com I've never been in either so couldn't tell you. And one more vote for Glasgow - you have GuitarGuitar, The Guitar Store who sometimes have some unusual second hand stuff, Merchant City Music, McCormacks and there are one or 2 on Great Western Road somewhere
7. Before I say any more, this thread isn't to ignite the whole reliability or what's better debate, its simply to find out what others are doing. I am, all things being well, going to be the owner of my first all valve amp shortly. My main band is a wedding/function band. Since this is going to be my first valve amp I wanted to find out what other valve amp owners had in terms of a backup in case something goes pop. My main concern is that should a valve fail during a gig or the amp falls off my cabinet or whatever, what would I do during the gig? I could carry a matched set of spare valves with me but being in a wedding band does not allow me the time to let the amp cool down, take the top off it, install new valves and then power it up. I was thinking more along the lines of a backup solid state amp and was wondering if this is what other valve amp owners did. I was thinking about something as small as possible but I don't see the point in buying something expensive and digital to sit in a bag at every gig with only a remote chance of ever being used but I also don't want a big bulky thing either.
8.
Are these stainless steel? If so, what guage?
They're nickel 45, 65, 85, 105
9. I would appear to have bought the wrong gauge strings and am finding these higher tension than I am used to - either that or I'm becoming a jessie in my old age. I have 2 sets of 4 string sets in the new sealed packets Happy to swap for a set of lower tension strings (EB Super Slinkies or something in a 40-100 etc) or £12 delivered for 1 set and £22 for both. For swapsies I'd prefer something of the nickel roundwound variety Its these ones here I'm selling: http://www.astrings.co.uk/Ernie_Ball_Bass_2833

11. I'm finding that I am playing right over the pickups on my jazz which is a tad uncomfortable on the fingers and was wondering if it is possible to replace the standard covers with the closed EMG type ones and if there would be any change in sound if I did so.

13. If you can find one - a Yamaha BB5000 or Rickenbacker 4001/5 as they're both 5 string basses with 4 string necks. A lot of the Ibanez'z have very slim necks as well.
14. I've had 2. Both '54 P basses, both with Jazz width necks The first one had a gold flake finish over a mahogany body, wenge neck, ebony fretboard and gold effect frets. Gold Schaller tuners, Gotoh 201 bridge and SD 1/4" pounder The second one was done to replicate an original '57 single coil precision before the 'new' version was introduced. It had a swamp ash body finished in blonde, maple neck/fretboard finished in vintage tint, Gotoh resolite tuners, gotoh 201 bridge and a Lollar single coil pickup Warmoth stuff is absolutely immaculate when you get it. the attetion to detail is fantastic. I would put a week's wages on the Warmoth coming out top if you did a blind test with the equivelant Fender parts. Their stuff is that good. The only issue is that the necks tend to be quite chunky due to the steel reinforcement bars that run inside. On the plus side, those necks ain't going to move unless you're turning the truss rod I've never had a gecko so can't comment on them. Check out the Unofficial Warmoth Forum - you can get the link from the main Warmoth website. Both my basses are featured in the customer gallery with very poor quality pictures. My gold Warmoth is in Finland or somewhere like that and the '57 is somewhere in Ireland.
15. Spiral saddle bridge and Lollar pickup niow sold
16.
Why would a kit to switch in/out a single loop include 4 pots? Oh, I think you mean 4 jack sockets.
FFS, what a clot - that should be 4 jacks maybe its me that's been on the pot There appear to be many ODB-3 pedals on here at the minute so I've taken mine off and fired it on Ebay.
17. Since finding Talkbs and then Basschat I have gone from owning 5 basses in the first 18 years of my bass playing career to well over 70 now in my24th year of playing. One thing has remained constant - I never got the whole Jazz bass worship thing which is more prevelant in the US forums. i thought they were butt ugly and overrated. Twangy, narrow necked jessie instruments for men with girly bone arms. Why is the control plate a separate piece of metal from the plastic scratchplate? Anyway, a few days ago I thought 'f*** it' and decided to buy a Squier VM Jazz bass based on all the glowing reports I've read. I played a gig tonight with it and so many aspects of my playing came through so much better than ever before. I had a honkier tone than Baron Von Honky of Honkeyville. It was so clear and pronounced. I now understand why Larry Graham plays a Jazz bass (albeit a Moon) Slapping over the neck pickup sounds absolutely amazing. I can slap faster, I'm not getting as tired playing and the sound is just incredible. The pick tone is like a rusty chainsaw cutting through rusty metal I tweaked the truss rod and the rest of the action when I got it and it currently has the lowest action of any bass I've ever owned with the exception of the Modulus Flea bass. £224 delivered from Soundslive. Incredible value. Everything works as it should, everything feels solid and it didn't go out of tune all night. I'm over the moon to have found a bass that doesn't feel too heavy, has a nice neck, sounds fantastic and didn't cost a fortune Finally, I understand why Jazzes are so popular
18.
Would you consider selling the cream J cover separately if you found the black?
If someone wants the Jazz pickup with the black cover then that would be fine.
19. Using this at a wedding tonight. Mwah ha ha ha That's the 1524, 4052H and AH150 Mk V --- It'll probably all be for sale tomorrow knowing me - £450 collected ONO :brow: I'll be using the 1248H in place of the 1524 tomorrow night
20. could have given it a dicht. looks like his child put the strings on with a pair of pliers. looks like there could be a new life form developing on the bridge Sorry but I would have to take it apart and give it a clean - mojo? e-coli more like.
21. I bought myself a kit so that I could switch my effects loop in or out, much the same as you would with a Boss Line selector but using a very simple circuit. cable in from the bass and another out to the amp. a send to effects and a return back in again. the footswitch takes the pedals in and out of the loop and it comes with an LED to allow you to see if its on or off on a darkened stage You can even paint it in funky DHA colours when you're finished. Included in this kit is the metal case, 4 1/4" jacks, footswitch, LED and holder. I'll also include some cloth covered wire that I have spare so all you need is to build it, paint it and use it. The parts have never been taken out of their packaging as you can see: £20 delivered to mainland UK addresses only
22. its a split P. I've just updated the description.
23. I'm having a final clearout as I have decided that any basses I buy from now on are going to remain in their original conditions and the only things I am likely to change are the strings and a set of straplocks. All prices include mainland UK delivery and I will be able to offer a discount if buying more than one item. First up is the main event, a Jason Lollar Precision traditional split bass pickup. Bought brand new towards the end of last year, this is amongst some of the best pickups I've used but due to my new rule it ain't going in any future bass of mine. Come with black screws cos the silver ones they came with were rubbish and I stripped the screw tops right off them. [s]£60 delivered[/s] SOLD I have one silver and one black generic fender 5 screw bent metal bridge but don't seem to have the screws for them. £5 each delivered Genuine Fender spiral saddle bridge, never fitted with all 5 screws. WD are charging £18 plus P&P for their own brand version so: [s]£14 including delivery[/s] SOLD Fender 1983 Fender Jazz Bass NOS bridge pickup with cream cover ( I may also have a black one somewhere ) bought brand new from Guitarpartsresource and never fitted with the silver braided cable £30 delivered Musicman Stingray left handed matt black WD guitar parts scratchplate, never fitted cos they sent the wrong one and I'm a righty. The original version with one tab at the top and 2 at the bottom exactly the same as this one: http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/STINGRAY_...BLACK_STGB-5301 £12 delivered Ye goode olde Russian paper-in-oil caps for that genuine snake oil charm. Seriously though, I've been using them in all my basses but I have about 40 of them so I may as well spread the joy. 2 for £4 delivered WD music Fender MIM precision mirror scratchplate from my black precision. £32 plus P&P from WD. £20 delivered 2 Gotoh GB7 tuners both handed the same way, not sure if I have the little screws though. Looks like I've tried to tighten the nut on one of them with a wrench. normally around £12 each. £6 each or both for £11. Gold Hipshot string tree like this one: http://www.bassguitarpartsdirect.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=312 £9.25 plus P&P according to this website so: £5 delivered DPDT switch with black tip, never fitted and still in its little bag £3 delivered That's all the parts I have for sale. I have strap buttons, most with their screws, various knobs and other bits so if you're after something in particular then let me know as I may have it. I am also putting up my Boss ODB3 & Effects Loop kit that I'm never going to get round to putting together in the effects forum.
24. I hate Jazz basses - don't know if its cos people rave about them all the time and I want to be different but I really don;t like them for some reason, really don't I've just bought a Squier VM Jazz Bass I tend to only have one bass at a time. I don't see the point of owning more than one, I can do everything I want with the bass I have in my hands (apart from the 12 string ones I used to play) so I don;t see why I need more than 1. If I was recording or sitting in with a band that wanted me to play something specifically then I would but i invariably end up sounding like me anyway.
