I bought Brian's Ibanez SRX705 last week. Spoke with him over the phone before committing to the deal and Brian comes across as a very trustworthy fellow. I certainly wouldn't have any issues with buying from or selling to in the future. The bass was exactly as he described it in the ad, right down to the damage to the finish which was pretty unnoticable and was packed very well.
T-Birds are sh*te and they are a one-trick pony! (sorry, couldn't resist!) I was looking at the Sixx Blackbirds the other day. I noticed that the ONLY control on them was an on/off switch. No volume, no tone controls. If you don't like the tone, you're pretty much screwed. Which kind makes the Blackbird a one trick pony (the irony!) I'd get a standard black one, at least then you can blend the pickup volume/tone to your liking. I hope this helps. JP
It would appear that even Mr Sixx is fed up of having no control over his bass http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-G...Bass/Specs.aspx

What's the best bass for a great 'B' string?
Delberthot replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
The best B in my opinion was one of the first 5 string basses - the Musicman Stingray. Its not that heavy but probably a bit too heavy for you if your looking for something a bit more lightweight. -
I've now got my "Perfect Bass" which cost peanuts!
Delberthot replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
I went through 3 or 4 Rickenbackers, 2 Warwicks, about a dozen Stingray 4 & 5 strings, Modulus Flea bass and a whole bunch of other relatively expensive stuff before I realised that none of these basses made me any happier or improved my playing. In fact, some were terrible and my 20th and 30th Anniversary Stingrays never left the house as I was too scared of damaging them, careful as I am. I'm loving my Thunderbird and have been happy with it for a long time now. it cost me just over £200 including gig bag, new pickups and Hipshot Supertone bridge. I found it remarkably simple to set it up to my liking and the roto flats were the icing on the cake. I look after my equipment extremely well but the odd bump against my music stand or whatever doesn't phase me in the slightest as I know that it wasn;t expensive and could be replaced cheaply enough if anything were to happen to it. I'm happy in the knowledge that I have 3 different basses that i could confidently take to any gig and their combined cost was just over £400 -
Seriously, I struggled to move the output volume on my Terror 500 between a whisper and deafeningly loud with a 2x15". It was like that finite point on old power showers between icicle inducing coldness and taking the skin off your back hot. I couldn't really see the 1000 being of any real benefit over the 500 unless you're playing large outdoor festivals, and I mean huge, or big arena concerts. They probably only make it for bragging rights so people can say that have a 1000 watt amp

boss OC-2 for 2 songs with the wedding band, other than that I just use the overdrive bullt into my amp - I've never found a decent overdrive pedal that did exactly what i wanted either plus I cannot be arsed faffing about on my hands and knees changing setting or going to night school to get a qualification to be able to work one of those multi effects units competently enough to be able to change effects settings at a gig Occasionally I have a flanger or chorus but for now its just the octave and all its glitchy goodness
Hmmmm... I'm the bloke buying richards 700, and this ones £20 cheaper and delivered too....
I don't really think that this is the place for comments like this, especially if you were trying to play us off against each other cos that ain't going to happen - if you're buying Richard's then I don't see the point in a post like this. I'll use this as a free bump as well.

Benoit David does do a really good Jon Anderson with the added bonus that Yes can now play stuff like Tempus Fugit which was the Trevor Horn era stuff. I'd be going back to see them if they play again next year
I've got some black nylon rotos I like. I've not tried their flats, didn't really get on with their rounds when I used to use rounds, which I don't ever any more - not sure my fingers would take it
I'm using Roto flats on my Thunderbird. I love them, the tension I would say is about the same as the roundwound Rotos. They are very clear and have a lot of top end, although mine are still quite new. they are even good for slapping, although i tend not to do too much of that these days. I would say that they're right in the middle between Chromes (very high tension) and TIs (low tension)

Is this a clever ploy that I'm missing?
Delberthot replied to Happy Jack's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I always list for more on Ebay than I do on Gumtree and here both to cover the fees and because I am a chancer -
I used an 800RB with a 1153 for years - that was when I was happy with my gear before the days of Talkbs and Basschat poisoned my mind

Well I'm impressed so far. Used it at a party night tonight so had a good few hours belting out all different stuff First impressions were that a cab that I can carry in one hand and my bass in another is a very good start. Its so light compared to what I am used to that when I went to lift it onto the cab stand using both hands I nearly lifted it over my head. good start. My initial impression of the sound was that for a compact cab, it has an amazing amount of top end clarity and deep bass response. I was really pushing it tonight and went for a dirty rock tone with the boost control on the Gallien as high as it would go. What I was hearing was the distortion created by the amp clearly, very loud and the cone was hardly moving. It sounds like quite a lazy driver if you know what I mean, as was mentioned above, due to the model of driver used but I could still manage a fast attack by adjusting the controls on the amp. It can easily do an old school, overdriven rock tone. This was only its first outing so the driver hadn't yet properly broken in so I am expecting more bottom end when it does. I'm back out next Friday so what I plan on doing is to use the Ibanez that I have on its way soon and go for a much cleaner tone with an active bass to see how that sounds. Early days but I reckon that this is loud enough to cope with a small to medium size pub with no PA support. There is only one thing that I am not keen on and that's the vinyl covering: it looks very cheap and I'm pretty certain that in the wrong hands would be torn and scratched within the space of a few gigs. I plan on buying a cover for it otherwise it'll look like sh*t within a year, even though I look after my gear.

For me, the lightest bass I ever played was a Bass Collection. Feels about half the weight of my Thunderbird. I've had one in bits for a couple of years and plan on rebuilding it for longer gigs. You can throw these things around they're so light.

Basschat Awards: Gigging in the face of Adversity
Delberthot replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
me for still playing a gig the very same day as I was in a car accident and had to wear one of those collar things for whiplash. TNiT for being the cause of so many locked threads in one day despite not contributing to any of them -
Yeeeahhhh!
steady on now I have to say that in the house, in the relative low volumes compared to at the gig, the level of bass was amazing. deep, rich bottom end but still nice and trebly. Let's see what it does tomorrow night I was speaking to the singer in the rock band who is 54 and when I mentioned Laney he was shocked as he thinks its a bunch of sh*t but hopefully I can persuaded him that the new sh*t is better than the old sh*t

After nearly 2 weeks of patiently waiting I pre-empted the delivery and went and collected the cab today from the courier's depot as it would've probably been next week sometime before i received it. I'm just letting it get up to room temperature before I connect it to my amp and give it a whirl. I'll report back tomorrow night after I've had the chance to gig it.

Ancient 4x15 Marshall cab for sale
i meant the one in the link, sorry for the confusion, the one in the link seems a lil steep to me
yeah, i totally agree. i would think that the cost to get this one back up and running would be right on the money and a great way to get a 'Lemmy' cab -
I'm the f***ing guv'nor me ok, f***it, here goes. Started playing at age 11, joined my first band at 13, my first proper band was at 17 with a big band. Guys ranging from late 50s to 80s. I had to bluff it to get in as I told the band leader I could read music so I had to go hell for leather to actually teach myself in two weeks. Played with them for 18 months earning the mighty amount of £200 per year (well there were 15 of us) as well as with a spinoff Dixieland Jazz band and was complemented on my playing by someone who played upright in a band for the Maharaja or something in India. Constantly being told to turn down by the band leader while the other guys would turn round and quietly tell me to turn up. Been constantly praised for my playing over the years and have the ability to learn a song in the time it takes to play it through once. I can normally begin playing it right from the start. Discovered after a couple of years in a wedding/function band that there are only so many ways a song can progress, with the exception of swing which is all over the shop, which allows me to play live to a song that i have never heard before and have the confidence to belt it out. Getting better all the time an constantly wanting to improve as a musician. I am not big headed in the slightest. I enjoy playing and would be out every weekend if I could. no ego, I just love to play. I'd also like to add that I believe that as soon as you get big headed and start to believe that you're the best, that's when you discover that there's someone better than you. You'll always find something that you think is better than you if you look hard enough. You can never learn everything there is to know and can always improve as a musician, no matter what level your ability is How's that? too much? Well you did ask

Sloblock, collection only and an absolute steal of a price - if it was closer it would already be mine http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Tokai-Thunderbird-/1...=item1c179bb93d
