That's interesting because it marks just by looking at it the wrong way. I know what you mean about the upper fret access being not very good. I very rarely go up that far and when I do its only to tap something with my right hand.

I'd recommend trying out a Laney Nexus NX115. I'm an old school rock geezer but always like to keep the sound punchy and the Laney is perfect. I play an Epiphone Gothic Thunderbird with EMG HZ pickups and Rotosound Flatwound strings into a GK 700RB II and the sound is incredible. Part of the reason I'm not on here quite as much as I used to be.

If its been looked after and everything works then that's a bargain. I sold my 1110 (the 4x10" version in the brochure) for £340 a couple of years ago. they didn't come with an output for an extension cab but some were modified. My one had an external speaker out and a power amp in if I remember rightly to enable you to use just the preamp section with an external power amp.

Been kind of busy the last few weeks but finally got to gig the cab on its own tonight with no PA support. The short answer is that this cab goes very loud. Tonight I wasn't even remotely pushing it. It could've gone a lot louder. Hooray, I don't need to buy another one.

Just found out tonight that i have a gig this weekend so I'm going to see if using just one cab on its own without PA support is going to be loud enough I had intended buying a second one but let's see how I get on with it on its own against the Jim Carey of the drumming world (I am the Jim Carey of the bass world ) and a phenomenal guitarist who plays a Les paul through a Peavey 5150 2x12" combo

The only relatively lightweight valve amp that I have come across is the Peavey VB-3. When I first heard about them I was very interested but at £2000 I changed my mind.

After extensive searching, the bridge with the closest string spacing is the Kahler 7460 which does 14mm which would mean that you'd have from centre B to centre C 70mm total width. A standard 4 string with a 19mm string spacing would be 57mm wide from centre G to cente E. That leaves you with 13mm or 1/2" extra width which would invariably mean that the outermost strings would be off the edge of the neck. I've used the 7450 to make a 4 to 5 conversion so that's possible so you'd realistically need to be looking at a 5 to 6 conversion as has been mentioned

I've been using one for years but I would say that using it gives an increase in volume. I run mine with the dry signal up full and the -1 octave at about 11 o'clock with the -2 octave off. Quite a bit louder on than off

I remember them and thought they looked cool - wasn't that Fender's first unofficial 6 string bass or did they just do a 5? There was a review in Guitarist that must've been about 1988. i think I still have it. I kept a small selection of the first ones I bought in a Guitarist binder

When you click on the 'more than 10 sold' link you can see that everyone paid £23.99. Not sure why they would change it unless they have run out temporarily and are trying to deter people from buying them cos they can't fulfill any orders.

I sent in the dimensions for my Laney NX115 cab on Sunday, got a reply on Monday saying that they had taken the measurements and it was on their website to order, ordered it on Monday late afternoon and it arrived on Friday morning. Perfect as usual - this is the third time I've ordered from them and the third time that they did not have my cab dimensions on their system so had to submit them myself but they were quick to get them up and quick to process the order.

I too defretted mine but by taking a huge flat file to it then had to get it done properly cos the fingerboard was now flat. The chrome on all the hardware peeled off and I lost count of the number of cuts I got because of that. An OK starter bass but the best thing I ever did was to bin it and get my Riverhead Jupiter when I was 16, conversely the stupidest thing I ever did was to sell that and I've been looking for one ever since.

I still love my OC-2. I've tried the poly versions but nothing quite does it for me like the slightly glitchy Boss pedal. I did have a DOD octave pedal years ago that was hellish. Couldn't play a C anywhere for some reason

Literally just finished putting this back together. When I bought it it was described as in excellent condition. the seller forgot to tell me that he had got his mate to spray paint it from its original natural korina to black, to the extent that he painted everything including the pickups. the pickups are to one side until I figure out how to get the paint off them without damaging them and so that they still look Ok so I have the set from my Thunderbird in there just now. I couldn't work out the point of 2 volumes a tone and a selector switch so I've just wired it up like a Jazz bass It sounds pretty amazing so far but I'm not sure if I'm going to keep it. I just can;t see past my Thunderbird.

When I was looking at the cabs in that range they did seem a bit cheep and cheerful.

Cos they aint TC, Ibanez Promethian or Mark Bass? Its been a while since I've been over there but I suspect that ther will be a lot over on Talkbs. Gallien just isn't trendy but it is damn reliable

Just to be completely different, I accidentally created a rig with an old school sound. I've always loved Gallien Krueger amps but got fed up with heavy cabs so after much deliberation I bought one of the new Laney NX115 1x15" cabs. right off the bat I absolutely loved it. I'm playing an Epiphone Thunderbird using mainly the EMG HZ in the bridge position with a bit of Wilkinson soapbar in the neck. for the last couple of months I've been using roto flats. This combination gives me a fantastic, warm, punchy vintage growly sound which is clear enough for me to use it with my function band playing all the old standards, some dancey stuff and modern rocky stuff like KOL & the Fratellis. I'll be having the first gig with it at the end of February with the rock band but i reckon a bit of boost on the GK should tip it over the edge to the 70s rock (Free, Bad Company, Thin Lizzy, Golden Earring) that we do as well as the more modern stuff. i don't remember being so happy with my gear for such a long time, even though they're not trendy brands

I just love playing music and don't care how often I have to play something. I've found that the songs I enjoy playing live are the ones I would never listen to at home and some songs that I;d like to do live are really boring to play along to and very rtarely do the two cross from playing to listening and vice versa. I never play a song exactly the same twice anyway so every night its different. Not because I get bored with it but just enjoy trying stuff on the spur of the moment Level 42 didn't play Love Games or Mr Pink when I saw them last year and that annoyed the hell out of me as for me they pretty much define Level 42. Cheap Trick never did Ain't That a Shame but the rest of the gig was so amazing that it didn't bother me one bit

That is very, very cheap for what it is but then again it isn;t everyone who's up on the value of stuff. He may have bought it very cheaply years ago when Ricks were relatively cheap second hand
