  1. Best Precision sound I ever got, was out of one of these. Our band supported a Ska band whose bassist owned one that he let me play through. It was pretty loud as well. It was only a couple of years ago and was a vintage combo but sounded great. The sound engineer commented on the sound as well. I loved it but I didn't try to pick it up. They're darned heavy wee things, or so I've been told
  2. Get behind me Satan
  3. I have more than enough amps and cabs and more basses than a man should ever need. But it doesn't stop me lurking on Basschat and Ebay. The only thing I now lust after, is a sonic blue Jazz bass. It would be cheaper to just get a refinish on one of my other Jazzes than buy one new, or secondhand. Which would be the sensible thing to do. But still I lurk.
  4. I need a nut filed, I'll try what you suggest and report back.
  5. Looks and sound great.
  6. Is that inverting the beat? I play with a drummer, occasionally, who does that just to kiss me off Last time he did it, was actually on a Cream song......the Swine!
  7. I can hear what you mean. Is the singing in a different time signature, from the drums, on the chorus? It gives it a very edgy feel. I like it.
  8. 'Karma to Burn', the live album by the Waterboys, has Steve Walters on bass. He plays Jazz Bass on it (previous bassists have mostly played P basses with the band). And he adds a slicker, improvisational approach to many of the songs. He and the drummer on the album, Carlos Hercules, previously played with George Michael. This is the first track, somebody is slightly out of tune, It may be Steve?
  9. The different size magnets seem to be correct on that pickup, according to the picture on this website. If it they aren't fit for purpose send them back. https://stratosphereparts.com/new-wilkinson-wojb-ceramic-for-fender-jazz-bass-pickup-set-pickups/
  10. I hadn't paid, over the years, more than about £600 secondhand for a bass, until recently. What I found, when I did splash the cash, is that although an expensive bass (ie in the area £2000) is nice to have, you don't get that much more for your money. I know many bassist who play cheapish basses, who get a great sound out of them. Edit: I'd recommend investing money on amps and cabs, before spending on expensive basses. A cheap bass through good gear, will sound better than an expensive bass through bad/cheap gear.
  11. I envy you. I'd love a rehearsal and I wouldn't care if it was $hite. 😄
  12. Why can't all TV be like this? Well I suppose it is, in North Korea.....
  13. Excellent sounding pickups. I have some posh basses, with some posh pickups and these sound just as good as much more expensive brands. Mine were installed in a body I bought secondhand. They sounded so good, I kept them on the bass.
  14. The rehearsal room I used to rehearse in, before the lockdown, had one of the original RM500s through an Ashdown 410. It sounded great with a precision. I brought my Ashdown ABM EVO III in, to make a comparison and the RM 500 was at least as authoritative as the ABM and just as loud. I think the technical term for the RM 500 is that it, 'kicks a$$'. It's a great amp if you like the Ashdown sound.
  15. I broke my oath and bought a MIM 70's reissue a few weeks ago. It is a lovely bass but with this Covid-19 situation I am not very optimistic that I'll ever get to play it on stage.
  16. My opinion has changed over the 4 years since I wrote that post. Now I think a preamp pedal would be a better option, because then you could get your musicman to sound like a Jazz Bass
  17. Price fixing has been obvious for years. I don't know why it took such a long time for anybody to do anything about it.
  18. I played a gig with a MB802 the promoter supplied, and I couldn't hear a thing above a loudish drummer. The 801 has minimal EQ, one less speaker and 40 less watts. I have a Fender Rumble 100 V3, which is light as a feather, has lots of EQ and is capable of gigging with a civilised drummer. It cost me £165 secondhand.
  19. Very, very loud cabs. Very, very, little weight. Sound great too.
  20. Well Paul Mccartney has only used his Hofner, a Rickenbaker, a Jazz Bass during the White Album sessions and for a short time a Yamaha Precision. These days he sticks to the Hofner.
  21. I really like this Waterboys song. The lyrics are very positive, it's called Open. You can't really go wrong with Mike Scott and The Waterboys. Most of his stuff has a positive vibe.
  22. Possibly double bass? But playing electric bass makes you invisible.
  23. 20 years ago my P bass got stolen and I had no choice but to go with the cheapest option in my local music shop, which was a secondhand Charvel by Jackson. It was a 'Hair metal' bass and actually sounded great! But the pointy headstock and bright red paint job got a lot of snidey comments from the guys in the Blues band I played in and unfortunately it had to go
  24. All the Laney gear, I've played through in rehearsal studios, has been pretty loud and clear. I've always been impressed. Which is pretty good for budget gear.
  25. I played the Mex Deluxe Precision and really liked it. I ended up buying the USA Elite Precision at £1,000 more (I was flush at the time and had never owned a USA bass before). It's a lovely bass but not really any better than the Mex version. Both are great and incredibly versatile.
