1. Glad you found some Stingray love. I have no problem with the neck. Good luck with your hunt.
2.
Round here cover bands on pub gigs are expected to go on on at 9.30 (gig o'clock as it is often known), play for 45 minutes and take a longish break to allow punters to have a chat then go back on at 11.00 to finish exactly at midnight. This is what most landlords generally want and bands structure their sets accordingly. This tried and tested approach seems to keep the most punters there until the bar closes. You may lose a few who have to leave early but you can't please everyone can you? Seems to me that the band you saw had been pretty professional about it and got the set timings spot on...
Much the same down here too. We have plenty of songs so the set generally stretch to 60 mins. The venue calls the times.
3. I have 4 and 3 are in gig bags and 1 is in a hard case. All stood up in the cupboard under the stars.
4. With our PA I go post and it works well. I'll always ask an engineer what they want and pre is popular. If you have an effects loop like me though they will not be in the pre signal so in that case I will run them in between my bass and the amp.
5.
I wouldnt worry too much, im sure most of that tone in the video is coming from his playing and rig. After all, he hasnt always used them. On the subject of EMG's i dont think ive ever owned a proper one, but I have had quite a few basses with thier Select pups in that i really liked. In fact my headless bass has two Select humbuckers in it and i love the tone from that.
Yeah, I know what you mean. It would of been good to have had some more choice when deciding what to purchase. I have gigged a couple of times with my new EMG PJ pups and they do sound great.
6. Bollox. Just fitted some active PJ EMG's to my Charvel 2B. We already do paranoid and are working on War Pigs.
7. I recently put some EMG's with active circuitry in my Charvel 2B and prefer the PJ sound live and when practising.
8. I believe you should not transport an amp on it's side as the vibrations could cause components to work loose from the circuit board. Good luck with the amp.
9. As said just tune the E string to D. I have Hipshot D-Tuners on 2 of my basses for the odd songs that needs a low D. What songs are you playing. I assume you will only need the drop D for a few rather than all of them if it's just covers.
10. I run my tuner (on top of the amp) and my effects which are on the floor through the send / return loop. Makes sense really.
11. You can work without a set list, and I have done this in a previous band, with 2 guitarists and both could sing. It was left to the main singer to call the songs and only him. We had a few songs that we started / finished sets and the rest flowed as necesary. You have 2 options. Leave the set to 1 person or make a set list before the gig. The music needs to flow for both the audience and the band. Good luck.
12. Which is the best bass to use though?
13. There have been a few threads on this if you search. I had the same problem. Fixed it by pushing in the pickup manget poles so they were flush with the pickup as they protrude slightly as standard. This enabled the adjustment under the G string to be raised and balanced with the E string. Might sound odd but it works great.
14. Bought myself some EMG active pickups with my Christmas bonus.
15. Sky did Must Be The Music back in 2010 if any of you remember that. There was a short running thread on it here during it's 1 series. Sky didn't recommission it for 2011 due to poor viewing figures. Apparently only 370,000 tuned in for the final.
16.
RATM - killing in the name of. 'Twas xmas number one and we don't get grief for playing it.
+1 to Killing in the name. A great Xmas no. 1
17. Hope you both had a great gig. My son is the drummer in our band after depping for a while. Brings a lot of youthful energy to it.
18. We were repeatedly asked by a big fan at a regular venue to do Tie Your Mother Down. After months we got round to it and it's a blast and really fits in our set. Another fan at another venue asked for Suffragette City which we did for the next gig amd was well appreciated. Most bizarre was at our last gig when after our penultimate song we were asked for Whole Lotta Rosie which is always our last song. So we obliged and didn't let on we were going to do it anyway.
19. Depends where but as I'm sort of midway between you 2 that's a possible yes from me. Could be something to brighten up a quiet weekend sometime in the new year?
20. Can of worms now open for business.
21. Thanks guys. Once again Basschat has come to the rescue. It all makes sense now. This is the first time I have had this option available. Both manuals have cable connections diagrams but none show the use of a cable as you have described with those connections at each end! At present I have plenty of 1.5m long jack patch leads (balanced & unbalanced) to run it in between the mixer and amp. I do have a variety of leads and connectors to rustle up the leads as described to try the insert route out, but these are not as long.
22. I hope someone enlighten me about using mixer inserts to connect and outboard graphic equaliser. Our band has a Behringer Eurorack UB2442FX-PRO mixer which is great and has plenty of features, except an on-board graphic eq. As it's the top of the this range that is to be expected as most people will use an external eq and can be flexible about what is used. I have got hold of a cheap second hand Behringer MINI FBQ800 to see if it can help tweek our sound. I didn't want to go down the rack mounted route at the moment as we don't have any spare rack space and are only a local pub band, so this seems a good way to explore using a graphic equaiser and it fit's nicely in our wireless microphone hard case. There are 2 ways to connect it and running it in between the mixer and amp is easy enough and seems to work fine. I tried to connect it using the mixer inserts as an alternative option and have not got a result, and searching on line has not really helped. Both manuals do not give an example of a wiring diagram when using the insertion path of mixers. On the back of the mixer are the 2 main L & R inserts which according to the manual "are the main insert points for the main mix. In the signal path they are post-main mix amp, but pre-main faders. Use them to insert, for example, a dynamics processor or graphic equaliser". Also on the back of the mixer are the main outputs, which consist of balanced XLR's & 1/4" jacks. What I could really do with is a simple wiring diagram /description of how to wire up the mixer and EQ using this insertion method. I presume the Main Inserts are used to connect but how and that seems to be only half the story as the EQ has an input and output.
23. Spotify is great. Radiohead (or Radiodead) IMO are 5hite and not worth listening to on any format. I remember watching them perform the pyramid song on TOTP and it was a wailing waste of space.
24. Good to see a Phil Jupitus us still on bass duties.
