Our band drops a semitone and I also use a Drop D tuner for a few songs. I play a StingRay and use a 105 gauge D'Addario Pro Steel strings and it sounds immense.

Hey Norris, If you have been on BC for a while, you will know that Daryl is well known for staring threads like this for discussions.

In the late 90's I was in a great Brit Pop style band. There were 4 of us. 2 singer / guitarist, me on bass and drums. We all did some vocals and sounded pretty good. I even met Mrs Mep through the band. After a few years one of the singer / guitarist and i left to form a Stereophonics tribute band. The singer is Welsh and was really into the Stereophonics and suggested the project. I was keen as I was a big fan too. We arranged to meet the other 2 and broke the news face to face. It was a big surprise to them but if was an amicable split. We went on to do a great tribute for a few years and got onto the student uni scene. Not long after the other singer / guitarist emigrated to Australia with a new partner. Some years after the tribute band folded I auditioned for a covers band and the drummer was from the old Brit Pop band. He eventually left, and we catch up occasionally on the local scene. I'm still with the band and we are on our 4th drummer.

I guess I'm just trying to take life less seriously in my old-fartdom.

AI yes. Slop? You'd have to listen to it and decide rather than make assumptions. I found it quite good. OK, there is a big debate about AI in music, but at least the people behind this are upfront about it. It's a cover, not someone hoodwinking us with a made up band with AI music. Any song can be re-imagined in a different genre, and this is a good way to do it and possibly bring new people to the music of the original artist.

I came across this last night on YouTube. What a version!

I trust you have one of these note books to write all your bass and song related charts and notes in?

A bit of boost for the low mids, which works great for me. Keep the low frequencies in check though. Make sure you go out front during the sound check and are happy with your sound.

Indeed @Stub Mandrel, that's what our previous drummer had. He's says they are expensive, but the price will give him peace of mind. The conundrum is how come the kick drum was fine the first time out. We have some time before our next gig to sort this out.

Ours hasn't got one, yet!

Back at The Burton in Brixham last night. Our guitarist daughter and BF, along with his family travelled down from Macclesfield to see us. The first set was a bit loose in places, but we got through ok. Our drummer was using his new Mapex kit with an 18" kick drum for theses small pubs. Last time it was fine, but this time the kick drum was moving so I spent the second set with my left foot on on of the legs. I adjusted my mic stand and had to stand fairly still. Overall a good night, and our next gig there has been moved to NYE. My usual rig and Skechers.

Ellen is great. I subscribe to her YouTube channel. I also subscribe to the SBL channel and have seen the Mohini Dey video and was seriously blown away by her.

Dave, you'll need to provide Fahrenheit temperatures for Daryl.

Back at the Queens Arms in Brixham last night. Its a cosy corner for bands, and our drummer had recently bought a smaller kit consisting of 18" bass drum (down from 24"), rack & floor tom. It really helped fir us in and sounded good to. We did a tribute to Ozzy by playing War Pigs, Crazy Train & Paranoid together in the 2nd set. There was a large group seated in a corner who were really enjoying it and were in fine voice singing along. My usual rig of StingRay 2eq, RM500 & BF210. My Skechers are starting to show some signs of wear, but are comfy and I don't wear by best pairt to gigs. We played well and had a good night.

I've had plenty of my ideal gigs back in the day when I was in my mid 20's and lived in Hong Kong and gigged a lot on the ex-pat scene PA & back-line provided, so only needed to carry my gig bag. A busy pub with an appreciative audience who wanted a good time. Free alcohol all night for the band. Decent pay. Spending my gig money in my favorite bar afterwards, usually accompanied by our drummer. The sort with Filipino dancers where you buy them expensive soft drinks for the pleasure of their company. Enough left for a taxi home. For just me in case you were wondering about the above. I'm now much older and drive to gigs so don't drink or go to any bars afterwards.

I wonder what its like trying to tune this latest 'creation' with the tuners furthest away pointing away from you if you are holding the guitar normally. Yet again, another Sharpie signature on the headstock to devalue it even more.

Another Pro Steels user here too. Great strings.

Last night we were back at The Burton in Brixham. We were offered tge gig with a weeks notice and took it, as we owed them a gig during to a cancelation earlier this year. Our last gig was 2 months ago and we didn't hsve time for a rehearsal, so just a bit od personal practice. The gig went really well. There were plenty of people, including a party group. We played well and gave a good show. I chatted to a couple who were visiting and came along with some local friends. She said we made her night playing songs from her youth, and he said War Pigs was the song of the night. A guy was videoing is on his phone and we caught up with him afterwards. Hopefully we'll get some of the footage soon. He lives upstairs from the pub and was drawn down by the band and my bass sound. The best gig we've had there, and we were payed a bit extra too. My usual rig, Stingray into RM500 and BF210. One of my photos of the stage.
