1. I have only used an OC2 & the Ashdown octaver. IME a lot depends on the bass. Passive basses seem to track better. When using my Ray I will play further up the neck to help out. Any other passive vs active comments?
2. Come back to this thread after posting and reading later comments. In my post case my TE head will only send the effects loop through the post not pre. If you have effects and need them FOH then make sure they are in the signal chain that goes that way. Last time the engineer wanted pre I got rid of my effects loop and ran them into the amp input.
3. Post for our band PA as I have worked hard to get my sound right. I will then give it a tweek if needed FOH. If playing a venue with an engineer and another PA rig I would give him the option of either.
4. I do some backing vocals, but struggle to talk much at all if I try. I have fiddle with mixer sometimes, but only if I'm playing an open string or have a suitable gap.
5. Everything will need to go through the PA. Your amp should be ok as a back line. A 5K rig at least should be ok. Good monitors with plenty of power and 3 mixes would be good. A decent PA company should be approached by the event organisers who will suggest what rig to use. Give them your requirements such as line up for instruments vocals and monitor mixes. Good luck with it, outdoor gigs are a blast.
6. Well done. First April Fool joke I have seen today.
7. The 2 cabs give some options if you don't want the full on monolithic stack.
8. Status Quo are still going strong.
9. Joined the nickel club a couple of years ago and love them on all basses except my active Charvel which craves steel rounds.
10.
Also, could all participants consider contacting their local press. Where's it's a relatively quirky idea, they tend to like it. It'll help raise awareness and in turn, hopefully raise some more donations.
That's a great idea. What we need is something we can give to them. Ideally a single link to the website or document that sums up what the relay is all about. I know you have prepared the bass relay rule and set that out to all participants, but i feel we need a press release type of thing. Could you sort something out Jim?
11.
Tell her its a present for her, Im sure she has always wanted one?
Careful, it's not just one. Does she really want a couple of 15"s
12. Check out Fast Freddies Fingertips. Some good songs and videos on YouTube.
13. I have one and they are great for the price. I had to change the awful strings that came with it which made a huge difference. After gigging for years with a Stingray this is a bit different but that may be a bit harsh. I really like playing this bass and use it to practice a lot. Got mine from DJM music for £200.
14. Well put. I'm here a lot more than any other site, especially since getting a smart phone.
15. I too have had that email, although I have to us the same address for most sites so can't backup your claim.
16. Got 2, had 3 in total. Black is cool. Maybe no the best visually for some reasons, but cool for sure.
17. Enyoyed the blog. Well done for getting it together.
18. Never had any problems being heard with a 150 watt amp. Are the other 2 that loud? Or is the amp lower powered. If you want to change then get something 2nd hand. A combo of at least a guaranteed 150 or 200 watts should do.
19. Saw them on a TOTP repeat recently anf know what you mean. Buzy but tasty.
20. I can play both types of music. Country......, & Western. Sorry, couldn't help it. Was watching The Blues Brothers on Sunday afternoon.
21. Ok. That's the 2nd derailment lately. Let's get back to the waistcosts!
22.
He will henceforth be known as 'Twerk of the Trussrod'.
LOL. I think sums him up. I'll have to get to his thread and paste the post.
23.
Baddly made or baddly set up. I read a post elsewhere recently that talked about a good setup making a cheap bass play like a million dollar bass.
A Mr M Phillips will sell you a seller refurbished guitar on ebay if you want. Apparently all it takes is a file to the nut and a twerk of the trussrod. He had his own thread. I can't paste the link as I'm on my phone posting this.
24.
He looks like the sort of tosser who pretends to be a wild child at the gates of oblivion but then goes out to work as a bank clerk. As far back as 1982 I was at least making an effort to look as if I'd come round your house , throw up on your carpet , eat the contents of your freezer as a milk shake and f*** your dog.
I nominate this as quote of thread, month and so far this year! Keep away from my dog.
25.
You asked for it! Who'd have thought 32 years ago that I would have anticipated this thread! Do I get extra points for authentic specs?
They don't make them like that anymore, thank God. I didn't know Harry Potter played bass
