Before fitting flats, get a cotton pad with IPA or Surgical Spirits, even Meths and rub all the crap off before fitting, Mostly machine oils from the manufacturing process, but they'll feel a whole lot better, so will your fingers.

If it was me, I would replace the plastic socket with a standard stereo Switchcraft, wired to the PCB. Job done and it would probably almost certainly outlast another MM plastic job.

I'm a great believer in matching strings to the neck, nut width and some extent bridge spacing. For example I love the GHS Precision Flats on a P bass, old style wide neck, not on a skinny P or Jazz neck. Great strings - in the right application IMHO - tone, feel, tension and long life.

Wobbly? Has the whole pot shifted/rotated and is shorting out somewhere?

It's hard to believe a can of contact cleaner can actually cost more than a new KiOgon wiring loom 😍 😎 For all other jobs - Servisol for many years, a can, ( borrowed from Vox when I worked there), lasted me about 20 years! The cheap pots used in many guitars these days simply ain't worth trying to save IMHO. They weren't any good when they were new - so what's the chances of 'making them better with a squirt of something'? 🤣

Well! If I worked for a 'top brand' guitar maker like Gibson, I'd be ashamed of that mess 🤣 The wiring looks in tact, let's have a look at the switch - probably the thing wants a good kicking I mean a bit of tender fettling and fiddling to get it working like it should. Cheerz, John

Have been using one of these for many years, quality cable and plugs, good strong cloth covered, excellent copper conductors, highly recommended. Well found, if the red battery wire has been shorting though the pot body you battery will most likely be goosed. You have a multimeter don't you?

The wiring looks well done and right, try lifting the pickguard complete out of the cavity, I reckon something will be shorting on the copper tape when it's together. If it works proper out of the body you'll know. Cheerz, John
