1. Next time someone says "How come we haven't got many female members..?", I'm just going to point them at this increasingly ridiculous thread. I wonder how long this would have lasted on Talkbass?
2. I have never owned an Ashdown amp, but I have never managed to get a sound I even remotely liked out of one. This may of course be something to do with one or both of the 'you's mentioned by Alex above The only piece of Ashdown gear I've owned was one of the short-lived Freebass wirelesses, and it was dreadful. So noisy, it was unusable.
3. I've only bought one piece of musical equipment this year, so: Best (only) purchase: fretless Jaydee 'Stingray' neck from greenolive of this parish. It is a beautifully made piece of kit with a flawless ebony board, and I'm looking forward to putting it on my OLP 'Ray body and channeling my inner Pino Best 'rediscovery': my Tanglewood Rosewood Reserve acoustic bass. I'd forgotten how utterly lovely it is, and it feels even better now I've restrung it with some of my old Elixir strings rather than the rough bronzes it was wearing. It now has a permanent home on a stand in the corner of the living room rather than being hidden away in its case.
4. *points at screen* *whimpers*
5. Only on BC could there be an argument over whether 60 seconds would be long enough to evaluate the music of a dead musician if he ever appeared on a TV programme that he never did and, for obvious reasons, never will I broadly agree with BRX's point -- with the majority of acts on Later, 60 secs is long enough. 10 is enough for some
6. Best customer service I've ever had was from SKB Cases. I bought a 6U case secondhand and needed some more of their weird cage nuts but didn't know where to get them. So I emailed them in Orange County USA and explained the situation, and asked if they had a UK distributor I could approach. Back came a reply, "ah yes they can be a bit hard to come by, give me your address and I'll pop a pack in the post FOC". 72 hours later they were on my doormat. Didn't cost me a bean.
7. This is not helping my GAS one bit great review, thank you!
8. I saw them in Cardiff a few years ago. Absolutely stunning in every way. Lots of wry Aussie humour, as Dave said, all underpinned with slick flawless presentation and superb musicianship. 'The Great Gig In The Sky' left not a single dry eye in the house.
9.
Our last band photo was laughably poor and made us look like a daytime TV garden makeover crew 😕
You can't just tell us this, and then not show us the pic. 😄
10. I've got a Behringer BX600 combo that I bought many years ago from a fellow Basschatter for an absolute song. My son used it for a while but now it's back with me. It's the perfect practice amp, with CD and headphone sockets, and it's even loud enough to keep up with my 12-piece soul band at rehearsals.
11. Last night was a first. I had one bloke complain about the volume before I'd even taken my jacket off. The reason being, we've got "big speakers" and apparently they "look loud". I wasn't going to argue with him. He was Very Big Indeed and littered with EDL tattoos. Thanks to two gigs in two days, I suffered catastrophic callous failure. Blood on the strings. Ouch.
12. It's a rubbish programme because they don't have bands that I like. Where's that sarcasm smiley when you need it?
13. Cool. I like the idea of the semi-permanent tuner attachment. This wee thing is turning out to be a proper Swiss army knife (meant as a compliment ).
14.
I'm sure many would relish the prospect of a larger lightweight TE Class D head with a full TE feature set - compressor, pre-shape, graphic - and maybe a 500W output.
Yes! Me for one. I love my Shuttle 6, but if TE released a light(er)weight SMX-equipped head, I'd definitely be very very interested.
15.
I removed my gear from the stage and walked away from one 'charity' gig (followed by the rest of the band) when they allowed the band on before us to continue to the point that we would have had about a ten minute set. I am certain they wouldn't have treated us like that if we were costing them money. They'd kept us (and our dep drummer who was doing us a huge favour) waiting for 3 or 4 hours before that.
Slight thread hijack -- similar thing happened to us at an outdoor gig in Gloucester. The guy on before us, Sherman Robertson, overran his slot of dreary blues to the extent that our set was about 25 minutes in the end. He knew he was eating into our time but didn't give a toss. It still makes me cross when I think about it. Sorry. As you were.
16. There's nothing actually wrong with the control knobs; it's all down to personal aesthetic preference. The stock tuners function acceptably and are stable enough, but they're not exactly Gotoh quality.
17.
Rickenbacker 4003. Huge disappointment

For me too. I saved up for a year to buy one and persevered for another year trying to like it but ended up selling it

Ricky -- can't remember the model (4001?) Dreadful.

Rickenbacker 4003's - I just don't gel with them at all.

Same for me as the other responses. Ricky 4003
I sense a wee bit of a pattern emerging
18. Ah yes, I'd been meaning to tell you -- the RSPB are very keen to speak to you about those pics, specifically the ones involving the chicken and what looks like a courgette but isn't.
19.
bumming around the house in my pants.
20. Sei Flamboyant 5 string -- it was a stunning instrument but I couldn't get the setup right, so in a fit of pique I sold it. What a stupid, stupid move. I should have given it to a proper luthier and got them to set it up properly, it would have been perfect then. It was beautifully made, felt great to play (apart from my crap set-up job) and the sound was to die for. I often kick myself for letting that one go. Ricky -- can't remember the model (4001?) but I'd borrowed it with a view to buying if I got on with it. It sounded great but I hated absolutely everything else about it. The ergonomics were non-existent, if I'd tried to gig it it would have crippled me and broken my ribs. Dreadful.
21. Just met up with Chris to buy his very nice Jaydee fretless 'Ray neck. Lovely chap, great comms beforehand and a lovely piece of kit now in my hands. Many thanks, I will definitely post those pics when it's done!
22. I had similar problems with my old Trantec. I had the proper rackmount plate but nothing for the aerials. In the end I made my own remote aerial kit from half a 1U blanking plate, some BNC sockets and a BNC cable off eBay, plus drilling and soldering and lots of swearing. It turned out ok in the end and worked a treat!
23.
Accept, and show great enthsiasm and gratitude. Cancel one hour before you're due to arrive and tell them your sponsor has let you down.
Ooh you evil wicked man. Brilliant
