1.
Mistake. Delete, [s]thanks[/s].
'Thanks' deleted, as requested.
 2.
Get well soon Norman, we'd hate to see you deprived of a long and happy retirement with your family. Best wishes for a full recovery.
And so say all of us.
 3. I wasn't bothered about the body wood; I chose my V7 for purely aesthetic reasons, as I love maple/pearl block necks.
 4.
Music Radar website says £969.
Bargain. [/sarcasticdisbelief]
 5.
Where did you get those knobs?
Good old fleabay Luke http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272025140365 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/371078038182 The single knobs needed drilling out to a plain 6mm hole as the spline pattern was wrong, but that is an easy job. They look a million times better than the standard plastic ones. I went for the smaller diameter single knobs because standard 19mm diameter ones made it look cluttered.
 6. I had one of these back in the 80s. Paid £25 for it back then, so 30 now is a steal. It was my second bass after my Höfner -- it was a good instrument, clear and bright sounding after the woofy Höf. The body of mine was ply. After I bought my Wal (my third bass) I lent the Columbus to a supposed friend who proceeded to f*** off without trace, taking the bass with him. I hope the strings snapped and took the thieving bastid's fingertips off.
 7.
For me, a bass has to look good. The bridge looks like something from a cheap knock off bass and those control knobs, I would not be able to live with them. Not very keen on the look of the headstock either.
If the knobs are a problem, you could always do what I did...

 9. Folks, I have edited several posts to remove political content. No more please.
 10. Beethoven's Fifth. i.e. dun-dun-dun done.
 11. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/308526-ricky-4001-smashing/page__pid__3333025#entry3333025
 12. Add SKB to the list. Great customer service.
 13. I had a Maison 5 string. It was indeed a budget Bass Maniac clone. Nice enough bass, played and sounded well, but a definite cheapie. Save a few more pennies up and get a proper Tune. Here it is in action. I'd removed the Maison logo with T-Cut!
 14.
The singer in my main band has a good range but sometimes the songs she sings sound better in one key than another. Usually her problem is that some songs are too low for her, in the original key, and she'll change the song to a higher key, so that she can get some power into it.
This. It's all about range. Try asking an operatic baritone to sing a tenor aria.
 15.
Too young, I suppose.
16.
Anything soloed by Anthony Jackson or Alain Caron for the bass, especially on "Ton jardin". https://youtu.be/8rENeWhoNr0 And anything by the late Wes Montgomery on guitar and there were lots of hits...
Hit records?
 17. I've always loved Wesley Magoogan's lovely sax solo on Hazel O'Connor's "Will You?".
 18.
we found a great country singer name from a few missing letters from the sign on the roof of the take-away chicken shop Charco l hickens ONE day I'm gonna use it
There's a pub near Bristol Airport called the Airport Tavern. It's never been terribly well-presented, but at one time it looked near derelict and a whole bunch of the letters spelling out its name had fallen off the front, turning 'AIRPORT TAVERN' into '..R.O.T ..VERN'. Somehow it seemed very fitting and I have adopted the word 'rotvern' as a description for any establishment that appears dodgy or unkempt; e.g. "there's no way I'm playing there, it's a complete rotvern" or "the King's Arms used to be nice but it's gone a bit a rotvern since that new landlord moved in".
 19. My big soul band does Queen's 'Don't Stop Me Now'; the horn section play the guitar solo it really works and always goes down well.
 20. The omnibus edition of 'Eddie Izzard: Believe Me' on the Beeb iPlayer. Funny & v.moving. Superb radio.
 21. Some of my favourite TV themes: Grandstand Taxi ('Angela' by Bob James) Hill Street Blues St Elsewhere (Lee Ritenour & Dave Grusin) Shoestring and of course without question the greatest TV theme tune of all time... . Not all necessarily great basslines, but wonderful pieces of music. Great thread BTW.
