Like basses, a man (or woman) can not live with one... however if it was that bad, got to be a semi acoustic, 335 or es175 type guitar. Versatlity.

Slight alternative take, I bought a Zoom b2 from forum, provides tuner with free effects thrown in, £45 ish if my memory serves me right.

Keep a very good diary lol, and be open about it. More playing, more experience, better for both bands unless it gets to point of immense demands for bookings.

And Croeso from another Welsh bass player, out in the boonies of Mid Wales.

Sadly it is a sign of the times (recession but government would say otherwise). Money is too tight to mention (can i write a song from that...thinks) and because of that people will make punt. My MIL aged 85, getting offers on house.. 35% below asking, and is priced to sell. It is tough, but as the seller, just say no, unless the price is right. I think cliche police should hit this post, but, it is late and I am tired.

Well done on sorting this one out.

2mm is pretty good, I personally like high action on basses, but I play them hard. One thing to watch for in the quest for supe low action - loss of tone.

If you are unlucky, wrong polarity can cause either capacitors (electrolytic) or op amps to fail. if this is the case you are in luck with it being an older Yamaha, it will have components that are DIY repair with soldering Iron. As above, firstly check for stray wires, even small 'whiskers' that are causing a short circuit. The multimeter is your friend. If there are no short circuits then replace any electrolytics, then any op amps.

Kramer setup (with custom ball end extenders lolx and routing under bridge, and few other minor things) full fret sort out £80. G&L full fret sort out £45. Kramer was more work from the get to go. Budget for new strings for setup. Both were beyond me and usual setups, I like do do my basses myself. YMMV

Try before buying, when we bought singer (female) mic we started of thinking shure sm58 etc. Guy in store spent much time suggesting various ones and set them up to try. There is a difference, some mics seemed to suit her voice much better. We bought AKG D5 and are very pleased. As ever try before handing loot over.

I have very mixed (confused lol) points on kit. My G&L is beat, and was before I got it. Does not bother me. Cheapo Peavey (£40) has small scratches on it - annoys me. One Warwick Rockbass is perfect, would be annoyed if I marked it, the other is used and dented - so what. Both Warwicks were £140 basses, so no big deal. Resale is a big part of keeping kit pristine, wish I had kept some basses, tags etc just as new.

Full bass rig in own office, and rest of band work in same institution, fragmented song development in lunchtime in shared departmental office, we all have kit there. Not ideal since we get a stream of interruptions, but is usually fun.
Most gigs with a bass player on a 15 will have that typical sound..and it may not be that good...will struggle to keep focus..will put out decent volume or more but will be too unsutble when the bass is being pushed
Those using Barefaced Big One 15 + 6.5 mid range or Greenboy 15/6 fEARful designs would probably disagree. I find the two 15s in Barefaced Dubster just amazing, clarity, subtlety and detail. The best bit is it maintains from quiet to ground shaking volume. As ever with all things speaker, try them, and then try at the volume you will be using.

DIY then (destroy it yourself lol) .. plenty of clamps, scrap wood and thin superglue or woodwork glue. Luthier who fixed small crack in heel of my Kramer used superglue. Try clamping methods before using the glue. Clean glue as it squeezes out. Good luck. As above, should not be an expensive repair, seek advice. Guitar player in band bought 335 with broken headstock, had repair done, it is invisible and was excellent value.

Did my 77 P bass in about 1979, what a b'stard to do, under the sunburst was some sort of polyurethane? filler, clear and rock hard (fullerplast?) However the wood was stunning when stripped. Amazingly (IMO) I got a really good finish afterwards even though DIY. Bass had bad accident later, broken neck, sold bits and was quids in. For 70s Fender, was well built but not great setup. Once sorted, no complaints.

What guitar amp for people who do not know how to work things
I believe that science courses have more funding than arts courses due to the higher costs involved. There is wear and tear on kit in all disciplines. I am not happy about it. That is why I am looking for more robust replacements.
As a teacher and Physicist.... I have sympathy for both viewpoints, real world science is expensive, kit is not cheap. If you think amps are expensive try kitting out laboratories for science at GCSE and A level, never mind degree courses and higher. Arts courses, such as music are also expensive if they use kit. Sadly we are in very frugal times. -
Whatever I play through sounds like me playing my Streamer ...doesn't matter if it's my mates monster vintage Ampeg rig, a green Trace or a random 1 by 12 combo...it's just a matter of getting it flat and killing the room resonances...
My experience is the same, and does not seem to matter what bass I use either. Old school band, pa for vocals only, 15W guitar amps, loud, and hard hitting drummer. I just like bass amp and cab that lets me feel the bass and has the reserve for big or small venues. Even if we had 'big' pa I would still want the 'trouser flap' feel the bass effect.
