1. This bass is fast becoming the darling of BC. sorry Maruszczyk
2. Love a DP122. congrats on a cracking looking bass.
3.
You'll be selling it soon . EDIT: Let me tell you why. You don't know what you want and when you get something that is very good, you don't find satisfaction as you are not qualified enough to know. I say this from experience, as I have done the same thing of going through lots of expensive and high end basses and never being happy for long. My solution to this was to stop searching for 'the one' and realise there isn't such a thing. No one bass can do everything, and going for several varied (and even possibly cheaper) instruments is likely to help satisfy your daily whims and alleviate boredom of having just one expensive instrument.
Preach! I'm now in a position where I have an answer for any musical style/sound I need. The only thing I may add eventually is a Jazz type, but to be honest I'm not holding my breath.
4.
Wow. That is gorgeous!
I thought the same of yours to be honest. Love the pickup config! Kinda wish I'd gone that way.
5. Welcome to the reverse headstock P bass club
6. Ahhhhhh my man cave is black and orange, this would fit in nicely.
7. Matsumoku build quality for £130? You won't get a better deal than that. It sounds like you'll get it playing nicely without spending much as well. Well done that man!
8. That looks awesome, way better than what happens when fender raid the parts bin if you ask me The tele headstock is what makes it.
9.
There's an SR500 on ebay for £300 ono at the minute. It's collection only, but travelable for me. Is that a reasonable deal for a used SR500? The bloke selling is more than happy for folks to test it out.
I'd say so, they don't hold their value too well.
10.
Can anybody here who owns, or has played, a stock Jake, just the basic Precision model without the additional pickups, compare it to a US Fender P? In particular, I'm interested in sonic comparisons, and how the standard neck profile compares to the 1.625 modern C on the Fender? I know you can customise these basses, but I've got my eye on something they have in stock!! thanks!
The neck is C shaped but feels narrow in comparison, like the modern BB range. The body feels smaller too. Sonically it's going to depend what pickup is in it.
11. Depends on context. I find the shape of a P way more comfortable though.
12. I adore my SR, but as has been said it's worlds apart from the BB. Play both and see what suits. If you're keeping the aria I'd swing for the SR because it's less like the aria.
13. Ahhh I would love this! Buy with confidence, Ben is a great guy.
14. I remember playing one of these at the NEC show about 8 years ago, was a brilliant bit of kit
15.
This happened to me at the Epsom branch and my wallet was the sorrier for it,
I adore the S version. If I was going to buy a Ric it would be an S. or a 4004
16. That my friend is an SB 2 elite. You weren't far off with the SB900 guess. It's pretty much the same bass but with a different neck profile. The 900 has the super skinny, parallel profile with tight spacing at the bridge. This has wider spacing and less of a parallel profile Edit the inlays are also different on the normal SB range. Also the controls don't look right to me. If memory serves the top knob is a 3 way pickup selector, the other 2 knobs on mine were stacked volume and tone. Yours don't appear to be stacked though?
17. Go back to passive. A bass like that should be passive/as original as possible anyway.
18.
Yum, sent him an email. Not sure on wood types yet. May go for Alder/Mahogany/Maple for this one. If you had to describe what his own pickups sounded like what would you go for? I'm having a hard time finding samples in the context ( older style Metal and general use) that I'd use it for. Adrian has just told me his own brand of pickups aren't doing a Humbucker right now, just letting you guys know
They're high output and pretty gritty. They do the rise against kind of sound really easily.
19. Yeah, V/V/T+ push/pull single coil, I went for Adrian's own pickups which is one of my better life choices:)
20.
Hey guys, been off site for ages. So I've got thirty odd pages of this thread to go through. Looking forward to seeing what sort of basses you guys have got from Adrian! I'm planning another one from him, as I've been saving for about seven odd months. My band folded and now the money I have that was going to recording is now going to another bass. I'm wanting another Jake for sure, with a MM/Split P combination and a Sea Foam green colour scheme. However I can't find many basses with a reversed headstock that's a P style. Didn't someone in here get one of those from Adrian? (Seabasskid?) What did it look like and how much was it added onto the price? Looking at going no pick guard for this one too. Bit of a departure from my usual solid colour/chrome guard but I wanted a change.
Hey buddy, it was me that got the reverse headstock Jake. I added it about 3 weeks into the build, luckily it wasn't a problem. It didn't add anything to the price though. I think the only part that knocked the price up slightly was the ebony board. Here's the pic
21. Without sounding like a knob have you tried simply playing it more? I had a similar problem with my old grabber bass, it was made worse by the slightly different scale length to my other bass which at the time was a fender jazz. I didn't really want to modify it either. I found that by grinning and baring it for a while I got used to it. My muscle memory improved and after a couple of gigs on dark stages and a few extra hours of practice with it the problem faded.
22. This is lovely. so jealous of your collection .
