1. I know no one cares what I think but honestly a squier classic vibe is all the p bass you'll ever need. If you don't like basswood get a CIJ fender. When I got mine I tested a 2010 us standard too and the jap blew it out of the water in tone and fit and finish. Either way you save a grand which could be used for something else? To me a p bass is a work horse. I think super ps kind of miss the point.
2. I'm so tempted! But I don't know weather to hold out for a 2eq ray.
3. Help! I want new tuners (and hopefully de-tuners) on my 2 CIJ fenders. They are a pb-70 and a jb-66us (I think they're the model numbers) the jazz has bigger holes in the headstock than the p and the hipshot site doesn't help too much. I'm not gonna be too snobby about them being hipshot but I definatly want de-tuners and I thought hipshot were the only people who made them.. Help!
4. Makes me wish I could handle a 5. Damn that's pretty!
5. I might well be interested in this.
6. That's a gorgeous bit of wood (and tronics) I'll get my coat ...... Taxi!
7. This would make a nice partner for my CAR jazz. These have a j neck profile yes?
8. PHUQ I like this
9. That just makes me want to place an order
10.
I take it your old lecturer knew not much about bass or music? I agree that most of the audience wont be able to identify the bassline, but I think they'd know something was wrong if you just played root notes for "Hit me with your rhythm stick" or anything else that was bassline driven.
He was quite a successful double bass and bass sax player. I think he may have done one too many acid tabs while listening to Gong in '76. Odd fella
11. I am also not a fan of bass players who whibble around the fret board. Keep it simple. If it ain't broke don't fix it. An old lecturer of mine had a theory that an audience member will hear the bass line they want to hear no matter what it is you play so you might aswell stick to root notes. But then again he wore a tweed jacket with elbow patches and ridiculous dahli inspired waist coats.
12. I'm not sure. Pretty sure I use my ring and little though. One finger per string gives me more control
13. I'd like to add G&Ls to the list of trade possibilities
14. Don't fancy a p/x on a p do ya?
15. Bit of a long shot this I know. I bought the P off Si (OldGit) back in May/June. It's a lovely bass but after rehearsing with an MM equipped Sandberg California J last week nothing quite cuts it any more. Bass is a PB-70 (the non US version) The bass plays and sounds awesome. I love the tone and the playability but it just doesn't work for my band tone wise. I would like to trade for (cash adjustment a possibility) for Warwick corvette $$, MM stingray/sterling, ray 34, sandberg California J/P with atleast one MM pickup, G&L, anything else with MMs. No fivers or sixers though please. If you have anything else to offer just ask. Worse I can say is no. Here's a gallery to wet your appetites. 16. narrower than normal yeah. Wider at the bridge than the normal SB but not as wide as a fender.
17. Thats pretty. I have a simular Elite which from what i can gather is 99% the same thing. If you've never played an SB before you havn't lived. The neck is..... to die for
18.
A bit of controlled buzz is a big part of how I play. I like that almost distorted tone you get when you really dig in. P.
I agree. I use my sansamp with a lightish distorted sound constantly. Then when I want more filth I simply dig in deeper. If I think it's too much I just roll the tone pot or the bridge pickup volume off slightly. Simples.
19. Yeah I'd agree. I need that slight buzz to penetrate the mix properly. I wonder if this is true of all genres or just rock and it's sub genres? Any Motown/jazz/soul players think on similar lines?
20. I was rather taken by this in the original thread. Something about CAR on a jazz isn't there? BUMP!
