You only need 2 (and just play them louder for the chorus)!
^This x 10 = my set list.

Traded pending - and back for my old Charvel! Welcome home ------------------------------------------- Right, a quick tidy-up of the ad. Trades are prefered. I am looking for any of the following: ESP LTD Surveyor (pref. a 400 and active) Jackson concert Charvel ST-style EBMM Sterling (the cheapie 'ray-alike - is this the right one?) Fender Precision Lyte
MIM Jazz
Cash can be added to secure the trade, if values are different. Also includes the straplock fittings. Can be removed if required. The key driver is a to find a pickup - preferably J or MM-style - near the bridge, which is where I spend a lot of my time playing. I will also sell - the price is £300. I would prefer not to ship, but am happy to discuss. Delivery is an option; and collection will get you a cup of tea and a play with my daschund. ----------------------------------------------------- This is my MIM Fender P. It's in great condition, as I hope the pictures show. I would hope the Basschat community would know all about P-basses by now, but this is a great example of the MIM breed. Fitted with new EB Slinkys, it's a great little rock and pop bass. I'm asking for £300 as is. Anyway, time for the porn: Collection is prefered, naturally, as it gives you a chance to try - and also a cup of tea, courtesy of my good self. I'd be happy to deliver, within reason, but let's discuss that. -----------------------------------------------------

I've got Guitar Pro, which might be a useful start until picking up something more concrete - I'd posted something in the Recording forum, about drum tracks, which has since proved very useful. I've now gotten to stage of being able to put bass line and some skeletal drums together; I was just looking for some more now. We've got a piano in the dining room. It's nothing something I've looked at since I was 12... always a time to learn, eh? There have been some really positive suggestions in this thread, thanks guys.
Have you considered sending him an email every monday reminding him to go through everything from last wednesday so he's ready for when you get there this week?
I am tempted - but he's 35 and a Head of Department, so you'd hope he would be on top of the basics. I shall remain confounded, I suspect.

I'm curious here. There are limits to writing songs if you're only able to work on the bass line - and you do get the odd moment where you struggle to explain what you're hearing in your head. I think it would be great to show some rough workings out - even if it's just playing a rough recording on iPad or somesuch. I'd probably need to be able to play guitar, mind, but that segues nicely on to my question. How many of you also play guitar? Is it hard to pick up going this way round? Do other people write like this, or am I missing some other trick - maybe a software solution to mock something up?

Possibly a different thread, but why don't people practice at home? Every Tuesday I get a note from our guitarist confirming that he's forgotten everything we worked on the previous Weds; he's not touched his guitar; and we'll need the first half of the session to catch-up and work it all out. Every Tuesday; as a pre-amble to rehearsal every Wednesday. I've fired an e-mail back to the effect that groveling this early in the day gives him tonight to sort this sh*te out.

Unless you feel the wood, finish or branding (which seems to be all that he is keeping) are worth £500, then the economics become questionable... but they always are for modding.

f*** me, that's stunning Gary!
-
Crikey, what did you use to polish it up?! It looks stunning, so the effort was very much worth it

It's on par with Chemical Ali in terms of claims on the basis of this morning's performance! I'm going to have arms like Popeye.

Seeing as it was Sunday, I thought it would be a good time to start on my latest project. As it's raining, time to retire to the shed and get some paint off! This was my first time using Nitromors. So, apply, without brushing out; re-apply after 10 mins; wait 40 and "removed blistered paint"... Except there was no blistered paint, nothing. It didn't even make a scratch, didn't lift anything. Am I missing a trick here? Seeing as that wasted hour left me with many more to kill, I reverted to more old fashioned labour to remove the paint - but shouldn't the Nitromors have helped?

Fingerstyle or Pick.. are your fingers the talkers?
Gust0o replied to ToneDeluxe's topic in General Discussion
I forgot to add, to my previous contribution to this thread, that fingerstyle is the only method for Youtube - unless you want swamping by the ill-tongued off-spring of our transatlantic cousins, the utter, utter f***wits. "Nice cover bro but nxt time use yo fingers like a man". [Insert "I wore my fingers out on your mum, so can only use a pick" joke] -
I like the price, which is a novelty for Fender. Gives some additional options for those who don't mind MIM.

Fingerstyle or Pick.. are your fingers the talkers?
Gust0o replied to ToneDeluxe's topic in General Discussion
I swap a lot of the time. We've got some real galloping tracks, where the rhtyhm just comes better with the fingers; some of the more conventional songs work best with the pick and plenty of attack. Wouldn't mind an attack pedal, or something, to bulk up the fingerstyle. -
Which aspect of Jaco's performance are you focusing your efforts on? His bass playing or his substance abuse? Both work, except in union.
That said, you would have no difficulty conversing with the average Brit.
Jus remember ter lock yer jam jar, lah! It's not like we're a Mary Poppins outtake, it shouldn't be too hard. Half the battle is remembering that we're not all Hugh Grant and the Royal Family.
No where near as bad as I imagined! I wouldn't worry too much. Its a feeble design because the screws are so far forward. If you're planning to replace it with a Gotoh I'd just get on with it. Otherwise, if its not affecting playing just leave it for now. I wouldn't try to bend it back though, you'll probably just make it weaker Uri Geller style It may be the result of someone tuning the strings very high, but as you said its a cheapo bass, its likely to be a cheapo bridge too.
Yeah, the Platinum series are a cheaper BC Rich line - however, if you go into it with your eyes open and knowing what to look for you can find a gem. Or at least, I thought I knew what I was looking for. I took the bridge off to treat the chrome and don't recall it being bent then - so I'm left wondering if I did it, though tuned to DADG with some EBs I'm wondering how I might have gone about it. The Gotoh is on order! However, what a cracking little bass. I need to do some NBD pictures, but shed loads of fun. Nice fat neck, lovely action; a bit boomy from the inevitably cheap pick-ups; but a good start I feel, and a darn sight cheaper than waiting for a US or NJ Mockingbird.
As this is obviously aimed at me,I'd better answer. While I do have a deal with Spectraflex cables,I was using their leads for about 3 previous to that, and was offered the endorsement deal out of the blue after I placed an order for a couple of new leads because the UK distributor had not got any in stock. I'm not told to promote them at every opportunity-I genuinely prefer them to any other lead that I've used. If I didn't like them I wouldn't use them.
Of course you'd say that, it's in the contract! /conspiracy theory Don't worry, Doddy, I'm just f***ing with you
