1. Welcome in, Davey
2.
Jesus Christ. I have just nearly destroyed my laptop. That is the worst youtube video I have ever seen. First of all, we have 'the crab' playing bass there, these limp wristed synchronised dance moves etc etc. Some knob playing keys and the dance music breakdown with the autotuned vocals. What utter crap. If I ever see these bellends I will run them over with a Range Rover and do us all a favour.
You know, I had - had - to watch it after that. Congratulations on the new bass, looks very fine indeed.
3. There's a whiff of "HEY YOU GUYS" about that Ripper poster! I thought you'd pitched for a motorbike and some ill-flattering leathers, Shined?
4.
Time this thread had a bump. Too many lovely basses to let it drop. A few months ago I discovered Rippers. It wasn't exactly love at first sight, but now they're really getting under my skin. 78 in Ebony bought from Basszilla
This is my favourite, I think. Some great basses there, Spiny. I'll have to post some more of mine when I get a moment.
5. I quite like it, all told. I'm equally convinced that the price will totally ruin that value judgement.
6.
Im not rising to the bait..
7. Crikey o'riley, BC Richs weren't all crap - have a look at the stuff Bernie Rico Sr was producing! I think the lesson is: buy vintage or custom. That said, the sell out to Class Axe and changes in production did then erase that period from most memories, by flooding the market with tat. Anything you see listed as "Bronze" is firewood-in-waiting. Lorne would be able to lecture you at length about the whole thing, I'm sure. Also: Djent - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Djent
8. York Bass Bash just gone?
9. Oi oi!
10.
The Clover's just fab. I did look into the MTDs after you mentioned them before, but then this Clover came up, and that was that, and yeah I'm tending to play over the MM pup most of the time for a nice tight punchy tone.
Horses for courses - sounds like it's doing just the job I thought the MTD might do, and looks a stunner to boot! Nothing wrong with a bit of Gary Willis, eh?
11.
Hey Gust0o, I just picked up some strap locks for mine as it had the stap lock buttons but not the pins for the strap. I ended up plumbing for these which as it turns out use the exact same pins as were already on my Spector. They're dead easy to use and seem very secure (they've survived all my kick-jumping and moshing antics so far). My one complaint is that you can't really tuck your lead through between your strap and bass body before plugging it in as it runs the risk of engaging the unlock mechanism. It's a minor point, and I know what I'd prefer out of my lead accidentally unplugging from my bass, or my beautiful Spector smashing on the floor
Chuck, I've got some generic Chrome knobs in there at the moment - so I think you might have started with different pins. The Marvel ones look very similar to the old Warwick straplocks, which are great, so thanks for the heads-up I was digging in the other week, for a particularly heavy part of a track called The Dark... and pushed my strap off the knob on the upper horn. I nearly sh*t myself when I felt it go. Ended up looking like Rob Trujillo, trying to hold the bass up and keep playing. I had to duck out of the verse to sort myself out
12.
but anyway, sorry for ranting etc!
I accept your apology There were some interesting interviews on Youtube, from when he's attended Scientology demonstrations during Project Chanology - however, they've since been removed. Incidentally, I thought Tom Cruise was pretty decent in Valkyrie.
13. Now this looks like a hoot! You should drop some of the shots into the pointy thread in Gear Porn, I think people would appreciate a look
14. I could quite happily lead the crusade in defence of Charvels, but having moved mine on it might be slightly duplicitous! That said, they're basically a Fender-style body with a different headstock - what's not to like? I mean, considering Jimmy Coppolo seems to think having a didlo for a headstock is okay, then they hardly seem the worst cuplrits for headstock defamation. So ner But yes, Charvels; Jacksons; BC Richs (especially the cheap ones, which seems to be the bulk of the range); MIM Fenders.
15. You could go down the Jason Newstead... ask Alembic nicely if they'll waterproof the electrics for you, as you sweat buckets. Worked for him. What is this Dricolor business?
16. I think it's the cachet of the ESP brand - they've always been a little heavy metal; still, don't half the metallers use Ibanezes? I love the Clover. The MM near the neck reminds me of my MTD. Great position, right where the strings are most taut.
17.
VERY nice mate! Congrats As you know, I have a black AND a white one of these and I love them....
What, the Daschund? Very much enjoying mine, does the business nicely. I just need some strap locks as the body shape means I tend to push it off the strap at the front moving about. Would definitely like another one, at some point. Will see what I opt for - and I'll probably be begging your advice again Gary, always appreciated
18. Is it your hands sweating, or elsewhere? I quickly rediscovered sweat bands when playing live. Might gloves work for you? I'm thinking out loud now. I normally have a small golf towel and wipe hands and bass neck as needed.
19.
Is he one of 'those'?
Oh yes.
20. Hubcaps? Last year. Alloys are where it's at. The spaces between the spokes help tonality, or something
21.
I like the look of them and who actually uses the scalloped frets?
Well, Billy Sheehan. I imagine they help him communicate with his Thetans, or something.

Loving the Blitz!
23. You've got some lovely basses there, Rayman. What was the decision to release the ESP over any of these? At a look, I'd guess at string spacing - the ESP looks a lot narrower than the basses you've kept.
24. That engagement ring I bought my wife. 1st wedding anniversary last Sunday - nothing like a supportive partner if you're looking to build a bass collection, so definitely my best buy

Loving the collection, Foxen! Superb as always, Lorne. A few of these have gone now, but it's more the spirit: Platinum BC Rich ST 1976 Gibson G3 Grabber Charvel 575 Jackson Kelly Explorer - regret this one, would have back! My other ST - BC Rich ST 1987 NJ Oh, and a Gold Ironbird
