So, what made people pick the jazz? I adore my Lakland. I think I first fell the Jazz bass when I was 13 or 14, trying a Fender Jazz out in a Leeds music shop - I lusted after one for years... a period which included my quitting and restarting playing, before settling on the Lakland. Absolutely no regrets. My lovely new Spector, which is the nuts, also has a Jazz configuration - must be something about it, eh? I feel like a cheat, as I've nabbed these from a previous thread, but it felt rude not to chip something in:

Hi(gh) Heel(ed) Sneakers - we've had a CEASE AND DISIST email
Does a cease and desist email have any legal force? Shouldn't it be on company headed paper? With a real signature?
Technically, anyone can issue such a request. Spinynorman, I ask that you cease and desist posting on Basschat. See? That easy. It's a request; a pre-amble to some additional action, assumedly with a basis in law and legal right, which would enforce the request. The first part is easy; the second part is more contentious. -
Mine cost £170 off Ebay 2 years ago,new plate, new bridge, lovely!!!! Neck needed adjusting, but now the action is fantastic, bargain.
Tell them this in as many little snippets of info as you can..as it will use up quite a few lawyers letters their side.
If they were using an external lawyer, why not - it appears they're representing themselves, however. -

Can I just note that, when you Google DEPAG LLP or "DELO'Music Entertainment Publishing Administration Group", this thread is the third highest entry. I found two quick entries, one for a Rick Hick who was their CEO until 2008 and this Richard Higginbotham chap, who is now listed as a 'publisher' with said organisation. I have never known a professional organisation to maintain such a low profile. Searching the address brings back the 'Grayhill Apartments', of which 'Suite 133' appears to be a number. I trust the neighbourhood looks better in the flesh, as Streetview merely dims it's glammer. Make of it what you will. -
I've just e-mailed my wife those pictures of Paul C's collection. She'd dismissed cetera's collection as a "one-off (and no, you can't have one)" - keep them coming guys, the more leverage the better!
Is there a build thread for this?
That would be nice! Dave, stunning bass - can you tell us a little bit more about how you put it together?
I think a lot of places take the bass out of the case and display it and the other trinkets like tools go walkies, and it depends on the shop whether they put them back in on sale (or even if they can find them!).
Wot 'e said!

I think we need the Cold Case team or something?
Maybe it's time to start a thread about design dead-ends in bass guitars and why some manufacturers are still perpetuating them?
Some element of kitsch, perhaps? It feels like a design statement, rather than a considered design option - one which would drive utility out of the design. I do like the look of the Thundergun, however. That certainly is a design statement

Rob, I finally looked at this at home - and it's simply brilliant (even better now it's a green Pedulla and not small red crosses!)

I installed Wizards when I went down the same route, and they're still in my '87 ST which does the business in that respect. I can find no faults with the. Cheapish, British, can't say better
Cheers all for the nice comments. It's neck through..... Any marks you can see are reflections. The only marks on the back are very light ones that the camera wouldn't pick up. Edit: I'm interested in Warwick, Musicman and Spector 5ers, amongst other things, and I'd be happy to pitch both my basses together, this one and the Ibanez GWB-35 I also have for sale for a straight trade for the right bass, although there's no case with the Ibanez. I'm also interested in Fender Jazz if you have one.
Jebus. I just cleared my cards, and couldn't afford to lose a bollock if the wife found me putting anything on them. Also, no 5'ers for the tradey. Gutting, looks really stunning Rayman. Where did you originally pick this up?
IMO, there's nothing wrong with your approach to the bass here. You're experiencing difficulties because of a clash between your band's ambitions and the resources to hand. If you're going after a Black Spiders-type sound, it's worth remembering they have 3 guitarists. Their sort of sound is difficult to pull off with only one guitarist. AFAICS the bass's role in that band is to unison pretty much everything and throw in some embellishing fills when the guitars aren't going at it.
We did head out, as a band, to see them play in York the other month - where I was at pains to point out, despite the best efforts of Red Stripe, that they had a lot more people on stage than we would muster. It allows them a lot more flexibility - I mean, their individual parts are relatively straightforward, but the whole is greater than any single part. There's a lot of good advice in this thread. I think I need to go away and digest some of it. I think there are some quick wins, however - it's good to hear people walk away from sessions to have a think about their lines, so I won't just stick with the first thing I produce; I'll see if I can pin down anything else the guitarist is playing and see what I can thread around it.
You could just get another guitarist.... but this a great opportunity for you to have some fun with your basslines. Less is usually more but during the solos you can go for it a bit more. To start off I just pretty much follow the changes but move around with some fifths, octaves, and fifths below the root, maybe some sixths too. Add some chromatic approaches and pentatonic / blues scale fills and that's a start. Then I try mixing up the rhythm a bit and seeing what I can get away with. Occasionally I'll come up with something new and interesting that complements or improves the song on the spot (usually influenced by whatever I'm listening to that week!), but mostly inspiration strikes when I listen back to the track. So record some rehearsals and listen to them as often as possible, you'll probably come up with something that way. Good luck!
The good new is that we record everything, warts and all, over multiple takes. I think that's the best bit of discipline that we have. Is it pretty much the case that I can play anything with supports the chord changes/rythmn? Sorry if that's an amateurish question, but I guess that's where my level of knowledge currently is - if he's banging away in E then I can work my way around the chord, try the chromatics, etc, and provided I don't clash with the chord change or rythmn I should be on solid ground? Sorry, working this out in my head.

Best of luck mate, hope all went well.
