1. Does anyone else find this? I had a little jam with the guys the other night, a bit of a warm up for our more serious efforts at rehearsal on Weds, and I thought I'd bring out a couple of the ideas I'd been working on. Right then lads, what did you make of the first one? Yeah, that was really good - sounds a lot like 34 by Karma To Burn... Ok, bollocks: what about this? I like that. Good Velvet Revolver vibe. Sounds like Slither... I'll admit, prior to this weekend, I was no expert in either band. But yes, they were very right. Anyone else find this? I think I'm just having a bad time of it, as I tend to play in a style - and maybe that style has some natural limits, in terms of what the music is doing/can do. What's the etiquette?
2. Doesn't the lah from Karma To Burn play one of these? Some monster sound!
3. That is awesome.
4.
I much prefer 4 piece (vocals, bass, guitar and drums).
We're now the same format.
5.
Still, there is one advantage to small hands.
Small gloves?
6.
Is it me, or has any one else noticed how much guitarists are getting slated here lately? I personally don't mind, theres alot of crap out there and some of them need to be knocked down a peg or two. I also wonder if we're getting the same treatment on a guitarists forum. I'd like to read that!
Oh aye, I have no doubt. Thinking of my own guitarist, he's accused me over-thinking everything; of being too technical; of playing too many notes (particularly if it's a tune I've written, where he has tried to copy my fills exactly and wondered why I'm w***ing around); of being some highbrow snobbish twat. I'm sure on the drummer forums they grunt at each other and share rude cave paintings of why their band mates are totally and utterly wrong
7. Exercise and warm up techniques sound like a useful suggestion. They certainly worked well for me - I don't have particularly big hands and have multiple old breaks across both hands and fingers. A little effort and technique practice works a wonder. Thereafter it's all about finding what's comfortable for you. Whilst I wouldn't openly advocate bad technique, there is a balance to be had - in both your playing and writing.
8.
If you're not doing so already start following the Crimson Guitars Workshop Diary. There's normally some fairly detailed photos of inlay work in there every week.
That site is a treasure trove of very useful information, direct from an expert!
9. These are very cool, with the Jazz pup at the bridge - a lot more refined than your standard P bass, and with the advantage of being active. When I first listed my MIM P I had the option to trade for one, and can royally kick myself in the arse for missing out. Split P/J is a lovely rock combination
10.
As my arthritis gets worse & worse I think I'm going to stop playing sometime soon so all of my stuff will eventually be sold.
I'm really sorry to hear that, Tom, and I hope it doesn't prove to be the case!
11. The thing I notice is the profile, or depth, rather than the width. It took me a while to get used to my Gibson Grabber - the profile is D-shaped, and gets progressively deeper as you move higher. It was quite a leap when I first got it. I think, unless you have specific needs or requirements (e.g. short fingers, cramping, etc) then it's all about preference - and I'll happily jump from Spector to Lakland J without really resolving which neck I prefer. Think I'll join you in that camp!
12.
I've asked Jimmy for a little more background but the inscription reads: "built by Jimmy Coppolo for Jason Langley. Thanks for all the years of friendship, support and the push to get these basses up and running!" Jimmy told me Jason was his best friend and I've spoken to Jason a few times via TalkBass. Lovely guy and super friendly, being Jimmy's mate means he seems to get first shout on quite a few of Jimmy's best basses & has owned several of them. I like the fact that this particular one was made especially for him
That's very cool, Molan - it certainly adds a little extra human interest to the bass
13. That is very lovely, untune.
14. Molan, that's absolutely stunning. As is traditional when we meet, I remain somewhere jealous of some of the gear you lay your hands on Interesting on the personal inscription. I've always wondered on the etiquette of such - do you know the story?
15. Do you have to play the cover note for note?

Has it really been a year? Good work, Wayne - I think we'd all really appreciate that, so thanks.
17.
What you need is high density acoustic matting for proper noise reduction.
Egg cartons?
18. Now with a help-me-buy-my-Charvel-back bump
19. Vintage, where are you based? Always good to include in the ads - helps people work out collection/shipping, etc. Fine looking bass.
20. I like this thread; but am desirous to know more about the red boxes
21.
I have the opposite problem. I have such as protuberant horn
Bragger!

23. Lovely.
24.
What's that trippy finish? It's stunning.
+1. Very unique.
