1.
If you can stretch a little more, I'd look into a second hand EBS Multi Comp. They're very highly regarded, very useful and sound nice and smooth. I almost got one myself but I heard they don't squeeze the f*ck out of your sound as much as the aguilar lol
+1 on the EBS multi-comp... a great pedal, versatile & quality sounds...
2. I like the Colorsound fuzz vibe... used to have a modded tonebender back in the late 70's... it was great...but before the modding it was a little light on bottom end... recently bought a Colorsound bass fuzz & it's turning out to be a pain in the arse! see my signal loss thread! signal loss thread Surprised to hear you say that yours has tons of bottom end!.... maybe mines a duffer? begrudge having to get it sorted when it's already cost £129! reckon I need it modded to let more bass through & put in a smaller box with an LED on it & also a power socket. So you have no problems with yours, other than it being a bit over the top?
3. Right!... It's the colorsound bass fuzz.... The battery adapter to connect it to my mains supply was dodgy... but it actually loses some signal & a bit of bottom end anyway. The Dod filter loses some bottom end too, even with the blend knob hard left... all the others seem reasonable.. I used to have a Colorsound Tonebender many years ago (1979!) & a friend modded it so more bottom end came through.. it was ace... sadly, got rid of it.. & in a recent search for that sound again, bought the bass fuzz a little while back for todays price of £129 (my original purchase was £26, I do believe!) ... I reckon it's gunna need some tweaking to make it work on the board.. & maybe I could use a new envelope filter?... I've ordered a George L kit through Digital Village (not too bad a price at £65!) I have a refund of £28.45 from them for the LPB-1 anyway, so wont be as painful as parting with the full wack... Hopefully this will sort it... Bit disappointed in the Colorsound though, it's a bit sh*t to spend all that money & still have to pay out to rebuild the thing so it's usable....
4. Thanks for the suggestions... "4) ultimately you'd be better off with better pedal connectors, like george l's or planet waves, but they are expensive, so leave that option until you've tried all others." Yes, I fear this is true... "try swapping compressor between start of chain and end of chain" Hmmm.... I'll give this a go.... I'd still have the delay at the end of the chain though, yes? Even though it's set subtle, wouldn't want it interfering with the decay of the delay.... "p.s. what are you using to achieve 2 loops, the amp or an ls-2 (or similar) ?" a bright onion micro looper "can't you set your pedal's volume controls so that you get no decrease in volume when you engage them? If not that's pretty crap. A boost at the end of loop 2, or using an LS-2 as your loop switcher (it has volume controls) would work." This is what effectively happens if I use the PhatHed on clean to match the signals...makes it a little complicated to use the distortion sounds from it live though. Boost at the end.... before delay or after? "Have you tried taking out the pedals one at a time? It might be one or two pedals clashing that's causing the problem" Good idea, I have a feeling the culprits are the Colorsound & the Dod.. plus leads & some cheap daisychain power conectors "First of all, can you clarify whether your volume drop occurs when the pedals are engaged or bypassed?" bypassed... If I switch through the effects loop, with none of them on... it drops significantly "In either situation, is it a cumulative result or is it one or two pedals that are the culprits?" A bit of both... but I will experiment to clarify this... (board is packed for gig tonight, so will have to do tomorrow)

Signal loss

In the past, I have had up to 6 pedals on a board at a time & not really had much signal loss... Now I have 8 pedals on a pedaltrain 1 & I have been having to use my Phathed PD7 on clean boost setting, to compensate for the drop in signal... I want to use it for it's varied distortion/overdrive sounds... even though it's a noisy pedal, I kinda like what it does.... I bought a EHX nano LPB-1 booster (cheapest option available to me at the time) to see if that could take over the job but it seems to distort, wherever it goes in the chain & is also a noisy pedal... more so than the Phathed!! How can I get my through pedals sound matched to my comp only sound, without spending a fortune? Any advice gratefully received After much experimentation, I have ended up with this signal chain.... loop 1 - EBS multicomp to amp loop 2 - EBS multicomp, Aphex bass xciter, EBS octabass, Dod envelope filter, Colorsound bass fuzz, Ibanez PD7, Boss chorus, Boss DD6 delay.
6.
Sorry mate - Have a deal pending
doh!.... ah well, let me know if it falls through Will be getting rid of the BCB 60 at some point, if you are interested?
7. I might be interested in this... I've got a Boss BCB 60, that I've out grown...
8. Nice sounding bass...
9. Defo... A great deal... Sandberg make great basses... What a price! ....Bargain!
10.
Ooh that's a good idea, is it home made (if so nice job) or did you get it elsewhere?
...I have a strange feeling of deja vu! I got it from: Aurora Project They asked me to send the original as a template... the see-thru one showed up pretty quick & cost just under £20 However... The last turn of the last screw, to fix it on, cracked the plate!.. bah! I'm living with it, as it doesn't really notice unless you are close up.. I had also written to Sandberg to ask if they could make me one... They took ages to reply, but eventually did... saying they could.. but I had gone ahead with Aurora by then...
11.
Just experimented with taking the pick guard off, opinions?
I had mine without a pg for a long time... but I found that, after a contract in Cyprus, playing a lot, my thumb position started wearing the finish off..... So I decided to get a see-tru plate.... reckon it looks lush & will spare it the wear from my thumb...
12. Yep... decision made... I'm selling it for $120 to the guy whose apartment we are renting, before I come home...
13. Thanks Gary... it's been a great experience... back in the UK soon!
14. Hi all... I've flirted with lightweight cabs for the usual reasons of wanting an easier time of load ins/out etc... Two Berg AE112's were great for weight but didn't really wow me in the sound dept... good but a little too 'Hi-Fi' for my tastes... Now I'm using Aguilar GS112's... Suit me much better!... definite keepers! I've always liked the SWR Goliath 2 x 10 cab... & would like to try the Golight version someday... Did a quick search here to see if anyone has talked about them but can't find anything... So What are they like? ...Same sound - different weight? Anyone got any? (I do feel like I've asked this before, somewhere!...!?!... I maybe senile already!?)
15.
Standard charges would be circa 20% so only about £28. However you might need a receipt to prove it's only worth that much. Without a receipt they will try to determine a retail value. Of course you could take a punt at strolling through customs and not declaring it but, if stopped, then you could get hit with a fine. I did a quick look for you and found a basic black Milestone up for sale at £119 new : http://www.petercooksguitars.co.uk/catalog...bass-p-458.html Using this as a base you might be able to claim you paid a fair bit less in Mexico
Cool... thanks Molan... I guess I paid about the same.. mines a funky red colour! The Proel case is worth the rest... I do have the receipt somewhere in my bag... so I reckon it's best to come clean, rather than risk a fine. Not a bad little bass actually, once I set it up a bit... Was hoping to be able to get an SX bass in Mex, but couldn't see one in Cancun.
16. I have had the good fortune to be able to leave my regular life behind for a couple of months & travel in Central America... Didn't want to take one of my basses with me... so I bought a cheap Peavey Milestone in Cancun & have been dragging it around Belize & Guatemala to keep my hand in... I think I could get away with binging the bass back without incurring extra baggage costs. Both American Airways & Virgin Atlantic websites seem to imply that I can take it as extra hand baggage without a problem ... My question is this... Will I be stung for customs duties on the way back? The bass only cost me £140 (including a proel case)... I have the option of selling it to a guy back in Cancun before I fly back.. But I could use it at home as a teaching bass or to give to my daughter.... Any advice?
17. lotta great stuff mentioned.... Would add Oceans 11 ......& any other Tarantino film, not previously mentioned..
18. Another + 1 I used a hipshot on a four sting for many years before moving to 5... I miss it a bit actually! ....something very satisfing about fliping the lever & pulling notes up or down, as the excellent Michael Manring video demonstrates!
19. I turned up at a festival with drummer friend in tow.... to hear our grooves being played by others, from one of the tent stages!!.. that was weird... We had done some recording for a College music dept. & they had put a band together around the stuff we'd written!
20.
Mastic as a gasket? Sounds fantastic! Not sure if it would work, but it makes great poetry ;-)
...hmmm....mastic as a gasket?..... Fantastic? Bombastic? ...nah, sounds a bit drastic....
21.
Maybe a thin line of mastic around the edge of the plate, wait for it to dry then put it back on. Would that act as a gasket? Oh I made my own see through plate with a bit of perspex and a lot of time.
That looks cool.... I strangely like being able to see the gubbins within!.... could work as a solution... but the sweat gets in through the screws too....
22. I've got a Sandberg basic 5, without a scratchplate After playing it like this for a while, I found I was making a hole in the finish with my thumb.. so I thought an acrylic scratchplate would be the best option... protection & the woodgrain still visible.... had one made by Aurora project at a very reasonable price.... Looks cool.... I sweat a lot at gigs..... & I've noticed that my sweat seeps under the scratchplate... & sits there in little squishable puddles between the wood & plate! Probably not that good for the wood... & it looks unsightly... I guess this happens with my other basses but I just don't see it with regular scratchplates... Anyone else get this? Any possible solutions?
23. Been using a 1001RB-II for quite a while now... a great work horse, really like the tone. Seems I've had a strange problem recently... 2 gigs over the last couple of months have had dodgy electricity... marquee jobs, One 13amp socket powering all including lights(!!) ...& my amp struggled... volume dropping, fading in & out... not sure what to make of it. No problem when it gets enough juice, as it does at most gigs with proper power... anyone else experienced this kind of thing? Very frustrating, it was!.... twice!
