2.
Oh yeah, that is an excellent one. Truly melodious. I liked that solo before I played bass... before I even realised it was a bass solo. Jennifer
Muzz Skillings was great with that band..... wonder what he is doing now? I love the lack of overdubbed rhythm guitar in the guitar solo in "cult of personality" on that album... you can really hear the groove & space.... & then the bass filling it out a bit...tasteful! & those fills on "open letter..." prick my ears up everytime!
3. What bass lines have been inspirational to you? "Funk the dumb stuff" - Tower of Power (Rocco Prestia) "Ish" - Brand x (Percy Jones) "stay" - Meshell Ndegeocello are three that have got my bass bone quivering recently!........
4. Percy Jones (Brand x, Tunnels) - nightmare patrol & malaga virgen - from the Brand x album - Livestock Patrick O'Hearn (Frank Zappa) - Rubber shirt (album - Sheik Yerbouti) & the purple lagoon (album - Live in NY) Stanley Clarke - many solos!... but I like what he does with a double bass on Blues for Mingus (album - I wanna Play for you) ...check the shredding run towards the end!... gasp! Alan Thompson (John Martyn) - Looking on (album - philentrophy) Philippe Bussonet (magma) - Nebehr gudhatt (album - Theusz Hamtaahk trilogy 2001) if u don't know this french band, they're amasing!... it's under the genre - "zeuhl music" the band is built around Christian Vander (drummer) & although the line up changes over the years... the vision is always the same.... Philippe is my favorite bassman with them.... great player!
5.
Yes, it's time for a curly lead revival. Just realised - the lead I'm using in the picture is a curly one in transparent plastic! Wonder what happened to it?
transparent!!!!...... way cool! I used to have one of those too!
6. <stingray 5 mostly...... but I do also have a tune "bassmaniac" 4-string (....a little too "80's looking" 4 my tastes these days!) & a hohner acoustic (sounds great despite the "dairylea triangle" soundhole!)
7. WOW!!!............
8.
I think Bottomfeed's student's bass probably has a neck from something else. The bridge looks different, too - possibly repositioned to accommodate a longer scale. J.
....Reckon you may be right there.... any ideas on the neck? I know a keyboard player who still uses the H/H VS musician (2x12) combo.... the "valve sound" is pretty harsh but mmmm!..... green light! curly leads rock!.... why don't you see them much these days?
9. hmmmm...... interesting!...... thanx 4 the links etc.. The owner picked it up real cheap at a boot sale, I think...... but it plays like an absolute pig! (....& unfortunately sounds sh*te too!!) may be worth some TLC & a set up.... had seen the WEM site & that white bass is the same but the headstock is different.... not like the Rapier style melted fender boomerang thingy!.... maybe it's a hybrid? on the subject of WEM, just done an afternoon outdoor gig (in the rain !) & the guitarist in t'other band "the Bloody Marys" had a WEM copycat!..... now there's a nice bit of kit! ShergoldSnickers, is that an H/H bass combo I spy to the right of your acrobatic ladder?
10. A student of mine has this wem bass..... anyone ever seen one before?.... got any info ? sorry the pix are a bit sh*te!
11. Hi all, I got lazy about my pedalboard this time round & decided to buy the off the shelf Boss jobbie... complete with 2 major design faults... those stupid little plastic catches which succumbed to the drunk tramplings of punters within a few gigs!... spent a few months re-glueing them before I abandoned them for little padlocks & a strip of gaffa... & the skinniest of wires on the transformer that powers all 7 items.... rediculous! L 2 R: Boss dd6 digi-delay, Tech 21 bass compactor, Ibanez phat hed, Boss chorus, Dod evelope filter, Ebs octabass
