  1. Sonic Red? Blasphemy!! Next they’ll be releasing a Fiesta Blue Great looking range though in all seriousness! Si
  2. Yup, regular Jubilee Gold, the finish is superb!! Si
  3. Yeah they’re really great for the price! I have a fretless Jive, and it’s excellent! Si
  4. Really? It's hard to tell if you like an instrument with 14 days of playing and two rehearsals? I agree that home playing isn't the same as gigging, but then surely is the onus not on the purchaser to buy a bass at a time when they have gigs/rehearsals booked so that they can make an informed decision? Si
  5. Have a LOT of time for her. Whether you like the music/performances or not (I think she’s great), she’s a flawless singer! Si
  6. Anyone still doing Facebook? Just startered a Bass page for myself. If you’re so inclined, go and give it a like & follow!

I guess I just use socials to keep in contact with the ‘wider’ bass community! I barely have any personal stuff Facebook anymore, or rather barely update it with personal stuff. Alllll Bass lol

That is a plan i'm still weighing up - whether to create a new FB account just as me the bass player/singer/musician/painter etc etc, and keep it for professional arts/music stuff, gig dates, videos etc.

But then again i realise the number of people who 'liked' my posts telling them about forthcoming gigs etc didnt actually translate into any of them actually coming along! I'd be better off just texting the people i know who live nearby and might fancy it.

The bass community doesn't get much wider than it is here on Basschat. In fact my doctor says that if anything, I'm TOO wide.

  7. I’m running La Bella shortscale flats on my Mustang bass, and tjey’re fantastic. Mine are the Mustang specific flats, which are optimized for through-body stringing, but they obviously make flats for bridge stringing too. Bass Direct have a whole heap here: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/LaBella_Flatwound_strings.html Si
  8. Earth flag anyone? Si
  9. I think what Wintermute was referring to was using a 2nd hand Clarett 8Pre to expand your channel count at a later date. Whilst primarily they are an interface, they can be used standalone as a preamp outputting digitally to whatever interface you’re using (assuming it has the appropriate digital ins). One thing to consider with getting a ‘cheap’, non-matching channel strip for expansion at a later date is that you may well notice a different in quality between that cheap preamp set and your better quality interface. Just because bear in mind :). Maybe just cross that bridge when you come to it, concentrate on the main interface for now, and as long as it has an ADAT in connection, you’re future-proof. Si
  10. I don’t think anyone is suggesting we shouldn’t discuss the acts or the program etc, but there is a lot of posts to the effect of ‘the program is awful, all the acts are awful, may as well be canned’ just because that person doesn’t like any of the music. The program should stay, all of the acts mean a lot to someone....just not you perhaps. Turn to your preferred way of discovering music instead. And yes, there is a LOT of amazing music happening at the moment in all genres, don’t think so? You’re not trying hard enough to search it out. Si
  11. Not sure what the thread is about anymore lol Si
  12. The SBL podcast is often poorer audio (in comparison to professional productions) due to the interviewee’s technology restrictions, and that doesn’t effect the fact I want to hear want someone has to say about bass etc. Obviously I’m not talking about unlistenable audio, but there is clearly a difference between a free/volunteer podcast (which this would have to be really, when you consider that SBL & Groove is free) vs an audio-book, which is the level of audio I consider ‘professional’. Bear in mind this is going to be a volunteer venture to start with, unless Ped says otherwise, I doubt there will be any expenses....that would require a sponsor, which requires significant listeners Labour of love. Si
  13. With this potential project, there’s obviously an element of ‘walk before you can run’, professional quality audio etc etc probably isn’t an absolute prerequisite at this stage. As long as things aren’t too messy, and everyone is audible and understandable, it’s more about interesting content, everything else is learned along the way. I’m always happy to edit audio, that’s easy enough. Skype is just an easy way of getting started, means you’re not restricted to people who are able...and willing...to record audio via a mic into a DAW themselves.....but maybe that’s a good thing at this point?! Don’t know. Si
  14. If the appropriate knowledge is there! Plenty of people with more money than sense! Si
  15. Think it would be easy enough to record. You can just record Skype into a DAW given the right interface, although not sure if that’s still the case if you have more than two people on the call. Will investigate when I get the chance (currently on holiday). Si
  16. As you mention, talking ads is probably getting ahead of ourselves. The forum has advertising because it can boast thousands of users and interactions. A podcast relies on download numbers to prove listenership. But for what it’s worth, a 5-10 second Audio ad at the start of the podcast is usually about right. That’s about as much as you’ll get before people actively look to skip. I think it would absolutely pull in a new and different ‘readership’. Lots of people want easy-to-consume bass content, but have no interest in forums. Si
  17. Just as a fyi, as someone who purchases advertising in the media, i’d be thinking twice about doing so with an outlet that actively encourages skimmimg over it (which a time stamp does). Si
  18. Not quite as simple as that though is it. It’s worth whatever someone is willing to pay assuming it is what they think it is! Due diligence is key with vintage instruments! Si
  19. Anything else, just ask Si
  20. I also forgot to add, I agree with audio only. Much easier and good for background/car listening! Si
  21. My personal take on the format is thus: A few, perhaps 4, different members each episode, who engage in conversation. Perhaps about some popular threads, or their story getting into bass, their gear etc. It obviously evolves from those basic points as it’s a conversation. I feel that format, perhaps over one hour, would be infinitely more interesting than just one person talking for x amount of time without answer. Si
  22. Ultimately, I think that in any given situation, you should buy the best quality interface that your budget allows. With regards to low latency and tracking with plugins, it’s worth having a think about what that really means. It’s pretty rare for me to record bass with any plugins on it for example. Some singers might want a small amount of Reverb, but that’s not restrictive with a USB interface unless you’re running a very slow computer. The only situation where you need a hefty system and perhaps a Thunderbolt interface is if you want to record guitar using amp/pedal modeling plugins, and perhaps multiple instances of that, that can suck up power! Bear in mind that it’s not particularly usual to pile on plugins during the tracking phase, that all happens in the mixing stage, and at that point you can dime your buffer size. That allows more CPU to be used for plugins, you’re not fussed about latency at that point because you’re done with tracking. So have a think about what you’re doing, and what you want to do Si
  23. General condition? Original case included? Plays nice? Pics? Si
