  4. 1.75" with a fairly shallow profile, so very early 60's Fender-esque. And that was part of the reason for wanting another Precision, my '71 has the B neck (1.625"), and I wanted something as 'full-fat' Precision as I could They do also do the 44-64 'Custom' now, both as a P and a P/J, basically the Glaub but with a Jazz (with blocks) neck. Owned one of the P/J 'Customs' for a few days last year, but didn't gel, sent it back and used the money towards my US 44-94 P/J. This BG though is really great! Si
  5. Live drummer and trigger the samples from a couple of midi foot controllers, that way, you can share the duties between you and the guitarist whilst still playing (maybe even the drummer too with an SPX as above). Si
  6. Whilst I have my wonderful ‘71 Precision, I wanted a Lakland P to go with my 44-94 & 55-01. So I put feelers out, and just so happened that Walshy of this shire has one coming to him on a part ex. Next day, deal done and it’s now with me. 2008 Skyline Bob Glaub (so pre the current 44-64 model, same thing though): Cleaned up, and setup with some La Bella flats and we’re good to go for gigs this weekend This is what I was looking around for a tort plate for. However the stock plate is quite cool, it looks more white in photos, but is actually a nice vintagey mint green! Si

  8. The F1 has been discontinued for quite a while now, so you'd need to look for new old stock or a used one. But as mentioned above, they make better heads now, pickup either a used LM3 or LM800 to get a loud amp at a good price! Even a used LM2 will probably do you better. It also depends what you mean by 'bigger gigs', if you have PA support, then yes definitely. Raise the cab a bit and you're essentially just using it for monitoring. If you have no PA support, I'd want at least a 2x12 (or at least a single 4 ohm cab) to get the most from the amp. Without PA support, it's not just about being loud, it's about filling the room with low-end.....and more low-end means more power and excursion I use a LM800 or LM2 through two Barefaced 2x12s and they easily fill a medium sized room with the amount of low end I want with no PA support.   12. Unique Selling Point. I tried a Stingray HH out a few years ago, and it wasn’t half as versatile as I was expecting for a double humbucker bass. Still sounded good though obviously. If i was going to buy one, it would just be a classic natural/maple single humbucker one Si

  14. What happens if/when the MOTU dies and you can’t find an interface that is officially supported (drivers etc) on Windows 7? Of course, you’ll get a number of years out of any given setup, but the simple fact is that eventually you’ll need to upgrade, and the longer you leave it, the more you have to upgrade in one chunk. Certainly nothing wrong with working like that, there’s no right or wrong way. Simply saying that we’re all ultimately at the mercy of both obsolete operating systems and hardware companies not having resources to infinitely support afformentioned obsolete OS’s Si
  15. I carry a passive DI, and let the sound-person know that I have that, a head with a DI or am happy to use their preferred DI. Some prefer to use their gear in which case I concede to their preferences (they know their system), some concede to what I want (usually the Orchid DI over the Markbass amp DI), either way, if everyone is happy, everyone has a better gig.   16. I think most bass gets double-tracked, not often to layer it (although that certainly happens), but more often to simply give the producer/mix engineer options. You're not necessarily going to know what you need from the bass until everything else is in place, and so if I have the ability to quickly and easy double track (Mic/DI, clean/distorted etc), I will. I'd rather subtract at a later date, than spend time editing/processing something to make it fit because that's all I have. Si

      @Sibob I know nothing about it either, so maybe they can!  But to cut a bevel round an irregular shape would be tricky, no? Again I don't know, being a Luddite. It used to be all trees round here... 🌳🌳

      I thought I could get away with buying a 3 ply white/black/white scratchplate for my Fender Precision Deluxe, for £30, and leave it in the sunshine to try getting it to a parchment kinda colour. Still waiting.... Its been like 6 months! The alternative was buying a Parchment Scratchplate but it wsa 3 times the price before it even got here from the USA!

Essentially, at the level I am guessing you're at (which of course may be inaccurate, apologies if so), I would suggest just purchasing a distortion pedal with a blend control as I mentioned before. That way you get clean signal and distorted signal without having to worry about a difficult setup live. Again, check out COG Effects and Darkglass, but there are LOADS out there with blend controls.   20. If I was going to buy a Mac, i’d want it to at least go to High Sierra, and preferably a couple of iterations past that. Just so I definitly got a good few years out of it. As much as people think they can just buy a machine and leave it standalone (no updates or internet), it doesn’t really work like that and you'll eventually be at the behest of a hardware or software update requiring a system overhaul. If you’re into music production (or visuals, graphics etc), this kind of obselence is a necessary evil and should be built into your 5year gear budgets . That said, if you literally just want a system to have off the grid, to record a couple of tracks for demo'ing purposes, stick with a few plugins you won't update etc, then you can certainly get more years worth out of a system then if you want to keep up to date. Problem with these setups is that if a piece of hardware dies and turns out to be a bit of a financial write-off with regards to fixing, new hardware can then require a full system update.   23. Was always quite proud with how this came out, a playthrough of an old electronic/dubstep band I was in. You absolutely need headphones or decent speakers, listening on your phone or laptop speakers? Don’t bother pressing play . There’s no bass sounds on the track, all me! The verses are just OC-2 (-1 Octave, no direct) and this slow gear effect on the ME-50B (basically a volume swell). The synthy ‘choruses’ are all tapped on my fretting hand so my right hand can operate the Hot Hand for the enevelope changes. So that’s a Source Audio BEF, OC-2, Orbit CoPilot Fuzz & the ME-50B for some chorus and the whammy bits at the end of the phrase. Worked nicely live. Basically every modular bass synth sound is Envelope filter, fuzz, modulation and pitch in some variation. Si
