I always find them straight...and always very busy so I'd put this down to a bad day. I like the 3 man team thing which can be very personal, but also at the same time, I guess they can get very ragged with all sorts of demands. It is the balance of a small shop with diverse dealings with all things bass and I'd bet the whole thing can get pretty stressful at times. But I would also make it easy on myself and call ahead and chat about any intentions....this makes things so much easier, IMO. If I was looking for a £3.5k bass..or any bass come to that, then if I have to travel any distance, I'd call them to make sure it was ging to be still there and that I could play it. It is so easy for it to be out of service..and in the workshop or some such..and I've wasted my time etc etc ... If you can't do this advance call, then your intentions aren't that determined...surely..? I think both parties might like to take a step back and re-run what they may have been able to do a tad better. These mishaps happen..its called life, IMO..!! I wouldn't take it personally. It is still the best Bass shop around, by miles, IMO..!!

Looks decent enough..and if it works, you can colour it in with a felt tip. I'd be more interested in how it came to all this...!!

Any note on the B string ..esp from E down. I like slap parts down there. Who needs an open E...???
This is the eternal dilemma music shops face. We often get kids wanting to try out expensive Gibsons etc, obviously because they want to know what the fuss is about and can also tell their mates they've tried one out. But does the shop risk a black finish Custom getting marked just to satisfy someone's curiosity? Then we have a guy that has been coming into our shop twice a week for two years just to have half an hour's practice on a Roland drum kit. Will he buy? Who knows? But in this case, I would say the shop was wrong to stop you trying that bass.
I can see this...so if it was me travelling a long way to a shop with a view to check something out, I'd have called them, introduced myself and talked over my broad intentions. At the very least you'd find out the bass was going to be there on that day and would have prepared the ground.

Don't use IEM myself, but I do see/hear so many bands flogging the vox to death... to the point that they don't/can't sing without shouting which makes the vox worse..plus the guy ends up hoarse at the end of the gig..which will have problems further down the line...not to mention he can pitch higher and better if he sings within himself. IMO, our vox can sing and the difference a decent pr of monitors makes is massive. IEM or trad monitors is your choice, but the vox are the focal point of the band and so many potentially decent ones can't get this right. Get the vox sorted sound-wise and then mix the rest of the band to them. I only every knew one good..actually very good..vox not use monitors and now his voice is shot. I am pretty sure that result was hastened at the very least, through not using decent monitors.

40-118 or 120 or 125. I have a batch of new sets and they are all 40-120 with a T core. I play very lightly.
My bas are currently tuned to CGCF, why's it so weird? It's just drop D down a step?
You're stacking 4ths on 3 and a 5th of another string.....??? Doesn't sound very condusive from a fingering POV...unless anything goes if the tunes are all about open strings. Otherwise you can do all that from a normal low B set-up... but anyway.. £1000 would get you a decent set-up in the FS section, I'm sure...a decent amp and a 410 and you are sorted.... or if someone can recommend replacement drivers for the PV, but that sort of thing shouldn't be undertaken lightly, IME. You could spec the chassis' already there and ask if anyone can spec a comparable driver
Recently had an audition with a band that use C G C F tuning. I was offered the job but and really don't think my 2x10 and 1x15 cabs will cope with a 'full on' gig. I'm using a Hartke 2000 (200w) head and the speakers are Sheffield 10's and a Bugera 15. Any suggestions on a more suitable (and ideally not too expensive) set up ?
Bemused about the tuning, but there you go.... but 200w into a 210 and 115 should be easy....unless the cabs have taken a canning elsewhere. What is the power rating of the cabs..? I send a low B into 2x210's at loud volumes off a 550w amp. Works fine and sounds great, IMO.

Since you can't get them anymore.... I would have thought achieving £40 each would be decent. I would have gladly paid that to replace my two and ended up with 2510 NEO's which was a compromise at £150 the pr.

Because we pay it...

Played the Hop festival and the weather stayed pretty kind bar a downpour for a short while. When we went on the rain had stopped, the sound was good for us..and apparently bonkers outfront so I think you can say we were pleased. All comments were very positive, but we kind of expect to do well at these things as we know the score and can cope. You need to be comfortable with 15min changeovers, tho. Good promo to a few thou..and decent money to boot... Have to say..ALL good...!! We will start prospecting these types of gigs for next season, pretty soon..strike whilst the iron is hot
-
It really depends what your bass sound is like... but if it were me, I'd be looking at an old Demeter or Aguilar valve pre.
-
The band needs concensus on their gigs.... We have a chat about it and decide whether we want to do it or not. If the money is good and they look after us etc etc..then maybe.
-
Headline... the stage should be set up for you and you get the most money. That is assuming you can justify being said act. Know the event..!!

I'm fine with this witch-hunt or excessive desire for clarification or whatever....I just hope this courtesy extends to others on here. I'll watch with interest
My comment isn't based only on bass chat members (and I've never been on talk bass) I'm talking about other people I know in the real world that felt something was missing, none of them are currently class D users now.
I am -pretty- sure this will be the case I've never jumped on this bandwagon and now probably never will. The thing about lightweight is the compromise and maybe it needs time to tell. Maybe NEO will be the same. For me, an amp at 20lbs is fine, and for about that weight, you can get a bollicking amp, IMO. I never felt Markbass, for example, amped up, or not the LM ll/lll types, ..and I would be sceptical about others as well. I think they are capable of sounding great at low volumes..and also there are many traditional amps out there that don't amplify to above 3/4 of their rated output very well at all.
-
My feeling would be that the TC cabs should go with a TC amp. I understand makers match their kit but I think with TC this is even more pertinent with their internal amp mapping. Have to say..haven't heard TC on their own, mind..!!!
-
if you have problems, you must have big hands. I don't recall MM being small string spacings..at all.
-
I am pretty well certain that my amp run 200 per side into 4ohms.. when bridged it runs 400 into 4 ohms.. I run 4 ohms of cabs of either side to get 200 stereo or 4ohms of cab to get 400w bridged.

Not a fan of the pillowy 12's from Epifani...I'd want the sound to be tighter. But I guess you are going to have to try them side by side. I'd be thinking the UL 10's would be a good cab to start with... but 2x210 EBS would do well...although an expensive way to buy them I'd add a an Aguilar DB410 to that list as well. Weight can't be the issue here, I'm afraid
-
Get plenty of bass out of my 2x210. Far better for me than 12"s or 15"s
-
Not surprised to hear this story.... Always REALLY knew his stuff and always very helpful. I've got a blinding set of his pickups on one of my main basses

At what weight do you consider a bass to be heavy?
JTUK replied to Evil Undead's topic in General Discussion
I only notice it when it feels heavy. I have no idea how heavy my basses are. -
thinkin that the eden looks pretty techy and i would have to go through the bridging side of the things to get the full power out of the amp where as with the swr 750x its all there in a 4ohm cab aswel. my heart says eden but head say swr.
hmmm...find an SWR900 for as cheap as chips, which will blow the 750x away... and bridging is no issue anyway, IME. if you can't get an SM series, then go Eden..assuming you like the mid voicing.
