1. I am down to two and I take both to gigs. No point for me otherwise..
2. I think they need to grow up. When the band has someting that justifies a highl level of commitment then you can put a few pointers in place, but not for a handful of songs and gigs and the position you are in atm.
3. Since impedance isn't an absolute thing on cabs, I wouldn't be taking liberties running too low
4. maybe...but I take the strings off to clean the neck so at this time I rotate the strings. I generally don't like to add gunk..even though this implies this isn't more gunk.
5. ok..cut to the chase... female singers only, please
6.
Heres a young lady who we will be backing on Saturday...
!!!!!!!!!!!!!! backing her doing what....?????
7.
http://www.ebay.co.u...1#ht_500wt_1156 Recently sold.
Everything is kinda wrong there for me with the pickups but that looks great. That would have been tempting... and even if I say so myself, my basses lack for nothing, IMV. hmmmm...!!!
8. I take the two basses to 99% of gigs, they are both J5's with East pre but sound massively different. They play pretty much the same in terms of feel and set-up but I don't decide what one I want to use predominantly on the date until I've sound-checked them. Using 2 like this, it is quite hard to keep on top of setting them up with strings etc... I don't like a lot of change and my style is my style, and interchangeable between the two but to use them and string them, I have to do everything twice. I don't EQ the amp for either, it is the same for both. Anymore would be a right pain and I wouldn't use them so much..which would defeat the object of having them, in reality
9. I've done the 2x112 thing and although it is fine, I find the sound more prone to change so I need to keep on top of string changes even with a horn. I feel there is too large a gap between where the chassis runs out and the horn picks up in usuable terms..hence the string thing. It can be great but can be variable as well I far prefer 2x210's which produce a more balanced sound across a more usuable frequency..don't lack for bottom end but is tighter and punchier there, and not so dependant on the strings being in top shape all the time. 2x210 will run at 4ohms for that loud gig..assuming 8 per cab and run at 8ohms for single cab work at smaller gigs....where you have power in your amp to spare. Not so small as a single 12" but it just works so much better so that is where I start from. Unless you shop very carefully ..I don't think you'll get 2x210 for your budget even second hand... maybe Eden might do that as they are heavy for today, albeit good cabs, IME. But one cab may be 30 kgs or so... so not too bad.
10. Most X 'factors' are either tied up so tight, it is strictly top $ or they have been let go so the artist is in self funding territory, with what ever budget the user can put up. I think it sounds like a nice venture so congrats.
11. I agree that they are 'protection' in that they should keep the cabs looking very smart. They have a decent padding to the material and it will not rip at all easily. The stitching is good and strong but the purpose is light loading into cars etc... If you are going to be chucking cabs around you'll need flightcases..which is a whole new ball-game..and cost. I wouldn't advise van loading and expecting the cabs to be protected from all that entails but that is not the makers fault or purpose, IMO. And if the cab doesn't fit when the user has supplied a template, then whose fault is that...?? I made up my own on their site and they were very dilligent at ensuring it was what I wanted which is what took a few days longer than usual. No problem with that at all... get it right first time and save all sorts of hassle on returns etc. I think well worth the money and considering a bespoke cover from the amp/cab maufacturer might be 3 times the price.
12. I can only really watch them with the augmented band. Gilmour is something else, tho'
13. Well, yes, but the whole point of these types of threads are ideas and experiences and maybe a few curve balls. Tap into collective knowledge etc etc ..but no one is going to convince siddx what bass is right for him other than siddx and all the posts are mere pointers and base knowledge of what is out there which is what think he was asking for.. But sure, you can apply 'vested interest' to many many threads.
14. A rare function as a favour...and the turnout was good but the hall had wiring issues which we never got to the bottom so my amp had to take a signal straight into effect return to eliminate a lot of noise. Everyone thought my amp had a fault, but plugged it in at home and no problem. This drained the gig for me. Too much hassle with village halls, early starts, masses of gear in, so something to avoid, IMO.
15.
I'm alright finding the root of a chord anywhere on the neck, although I could get better, but my main problem is I don't know what the intervals in each chord are. As in, I don't know that Eb is the 3rd in Bmaj. Or if I do, I can't think of it very quickly.
In that case, you know that ANY major third is two tones or 4 frets on the neck from root..... A 6th is a tone and half down from octave...for example. and if you know that, and you are busking, you don't have to think about what the note is called... Keep the shape and you keep in tune. If people can't keep this shape as they can't use 4 fingers all the time, this falls apart a tad, but you should be using 4 fingers as a matter of course.
16.
Nah I know all that stuff, it's the actual names of the notes I don't know, which means when I'm busking a tune I don't know I have to be very conservative about what I play because I can't be trusted to find a given interval for a given chord without first thinking of where the root note is and spotting the interval in relation to that.
??? so you know the the scale you are using but not the root note ..??? If someone says play a G, you must know the notes within that chord that will work, so that is why if you know the scale shape, even if you don't or can't work out the individual notes quickly, you are still on safe ground. Am I missing something..?? From my POV, players should know..as building blocks... the notes right across the fretboard, but sometimes...and this applies to gtrs a lot, they know shapes a lot better than scales. Once you know your basic scales, you know'll what constitutes a diminished or augmented or 9th or 13 etc etc ... because the scale will walk you right through them.
17. :lol; good old Ashdown.
18. Depends on your tastes. I wouldn't have a cab without one myself..... must be attenuable though as the cheaper horns can be a lot of hiss. If you go upto ..for example...12 khz plus...hiss will be in there anyway so being able to attenuate might help.
19. Take the positives out of this. They don't seem to have a problem with you as you have lasted 6 months so you can ask them how they feel you can improve even further and what they would like you to work on. Use this as a good learning experience and tap into their collective knowledge. Ask them what they like and don't like so much and canvass opinions and how they approach things. Sounds like a very good opportunity.........
20. If you are going to play slap in the groove, you have picked 2 good examples and the playing is fine. No problem at all and nice lazy fluid groove. If you can make those tracks sit up without the original bass in there, you are defintely a cool slap player, IMO
21. Get covers... When the carpet goes off....it looks very scruffy, matted or when ruffled and pulled out of shape. The best looking cabinets...by miles, IMO, are the Aguilar DB's... followed by Berg AE's. I like the idea of the hard wearing carpet but you still need a cover for them anyway, IME..and so you may as well go for the better looking cabs. They do need to sound good though...
22. This looks great... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_sp...a_4SeaFoam.html
23. And looks better, IMO.
24. Depends how far you want to go with it..and how your left hand fingers the notes. A simple start would be to arrange 4 fingers across 4 frets....and then play from any start point...but just to give it a reference, the 3rd fret on the E string. Play finger-wise.... E st 2-4 A st 1-2-4 Dst 1-3-4 Across the 3 strings and you have a G major scale. You can transfer that to any other position on the neck and across 3 string you will always get a major scale determined by what root note you start on. If you only just get the note of your start-of position, you still know the intervals of the major scale if you count the notes up the scale from the 1st note ..so your third note would be the major third, 4th=4th, 5th=5th...which is why they are so named as they are that number note within the scale. This is why I would say Bilbao is right in saying learn the scales. Once you have the fingering right, you can work out what notes you can flatten to get a minor scale, for example,
