That's very cool looking Karlfer
It's now also very sold and sadly it wasn't to me. Karl.

Hi guys, this is the little beauty from Leeds. I mailed Will, the seller last night but unfortunately didn't get a reply until this afternoon. Too late for a trip over the Pennines today. It's different but very nice. Checked the headstock shape against photos of the Kasuga I had in very early 80's, and the shape is exactly the same. Re-introducing Obi-Jon-Kinobi. Over to you Jon. Oh, this was still for sale about 3pm.

Hiya Neal, although wev'e already "spoke". My Geddy went before I really decided to sell it. The Geddy is definitely growlier than than the Highway, but the Highway is lighter. Keep on looking and take your time. Enjoy this forum, it's blinding for the knowledge folk readily share. Good look with everything, and up the Maidens! ('arris gimme you fingers and skill!) Cheers, Karl.
A few questions (not wanting to get your hopes up) as I am in the market for a Rickenbacker Bass and can realistically could pay cash this week if the right deal is there. I'm looking at a couple already but like the age of this and you are only a couple of hours from me. 1) In the initial post you state you have more pics to follow? The one attached is ok but if the back is suffering buckle rash and the tuner has been replaced I'd need to see what this looks like. Also close up shots of the bass. 2) What's the weight of this one? 3) Any history? How long have you owned it etc. Why are you selling? 4) Original case? Thanks in advance, Tim
Et moi. (s**t, I didn't know I'd paid any attention in french, but it just like, came to me)

Hi folks. Sometimes in the basses for sale bit, people ask where the seller got their scratchplates from. I had a Geddy, and got a custom made tortie plate for it. In my opinion it really set it off. So, long story short, for those who aren't aware of them The Aurora Project, did me a fantastic product, very quickly and at a very reasonable price. I have no commercial link to them. If this helps one person, then it's been worthwhile. (note to self, nauseating git!)

Just why is blues so important when learning bass?
karlfer replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
Love playing the blues. Shortest ever blues toon, Didn't wake up this morning. Coat ready and waiting. -
Hello tom1946. If you are in no hurry, I MAY be selling my Rockinbetter for £500 in the near future, If I do it's because I will have found a Rick 4003 . Really just giving you a head start, worst you can say is no. I bought it for £575 in Dec, it is ebay item number 270492829061. It has real original Rick pups, pup surround and bridge (over £300 worth). If you cant trace it through the e bay number, please send me you personal email address and I will try to send you some photo's (cant seem to get it right on bass chat with photos, something to do with file size and my incompetency). As I say, at the moment this is a "maybe for sale", however, if you are looking at £500 Rick copies, this may be as good as you get. I will be deciding in the next couple of weeks. Hope you don't find this cheeky, really just trying to help both of us, Cheers, Karl.

So, I mentioned if I couldn't sell my 74 /75 jazz, I may sell my Geddy or Highway 1, as I can't justify 3 jazzes. John contacted me re Geddy, price agreed, meet agreed. Despite 110 miles between us, snow and awful roads, everything went like clockwork. John, you are a gent as a Mod (usually thankless task), a gent as a buyer, and , er, well an all round gent. Many thanks for everything, really hope you enjoy, Cheers, Karl.
I have a jaw-dropping story about the late Ms. Millington that to this day leaves me wide-eyed when I think about it. It's way too naughty to produce here. P
Spill!

Duff McKagan's old '85 Jazz Bass Special (allegedly)
karlfer replied to Clarky's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Having seen GnR open the 'Maidens show at Donnington 88, very impressed at how a thrown about Duff bass has maintained it's good looks? (Sadly Gnr were s^!*e at that gig) -
I have Highway 1 Jazz, and a Geddy Lee Jazz, both around your budget, although perhaps good second hand ones for under £600. Both are excellent bases. The Geddy has more growl, but also more weight. The Highway is a smoother sound, and actually relatively light. As I said, both great basses. Try putting out an appeal to bassists relatively local to you, so you can try them. I live in Wigan, if you are ever anywhere near, email me a day or so in advance and you will be quite welcome to have a go on them. Cheers, Karl.

Rickenbacker Top Nut Replacement
karlfer replied to StevieD_FenderP2009's topic in Repairs and Technical
Hiya mate, sorry to be the bearer....... I aked the same question of several graphtec stockists and the answer was a unanimous, none fit sadly. I was pretty p****d as well. Might be worth having a word with your local super luthier and getting a custom, bone, graphite, brass whatever. Realistically it will hurt at first but you will get donkeys out of it. I haven't got mine done yet but was quoted £40 for brass custom nut, fitted. Good luck, Karl. -
Oh my God!

I have my eye on something specific on here. There has been considerable interest in this jazz, but only a couple of firm exchanges, neither of which were quite right for me. My jazz is now in Richard Tomson's of Wigan, getting a set up, and the dis-lodged wire soldered back. I get it back on Thurs.(please check his reputation on the 'net) I am prepared to drop the price of this bass to £1400, cash on collection, if the deal is completed before noon on Saturday 9th Jan. If I haven't completed the sale by then, it will certainly be back up to £1500, but will most likely be withdrawn and most likely I will put my Geddy up for sale. I really can't afford the luxury of 3 jazzes. Many thanks for looking, Cheers, Karl.

1. To get an interpreter for the rest of the band I recently joined (I'm 20 years older the them). 2. To stop widdling Jaco bits in the gap between songs in rehersals (thats for the g***arist to do) 3. To get the band from 40 minute support slots to something where you can work a real sweat up. 4. To bring about world peace and democracy for the Wigan Unpopular Front. 5. To eat a beaver and save a tree.

Ebay clearout to end all Ebay clearouts....
karlfer replied to wateroftyne's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Having just looked at that lot, I am relieved that I can, in all good conscience, ask £1500 for my 74/75. However; That White 1970 re-fin with Rosewood and Pearl blocks has brought about a "What will I get for the car?" moment. -
I would'nt know much, but that price is not too far off the cost of a new 75 reissue, so the price must be pretty damn good i think! Good luck selling it!!
Thanks aznbass (now got some time to thank you). And a damn fine New Year to you and everybody. Looked on ebay today, '75, US re-issue £1549. As these are still available, I guess they would depreciate over the 1st few years. That series appear to be the 3 bolt neck, unlike my 4 bolt, so I guess that was the 1st year jazzes had 3 bolt? Couple of years back when I was looking for a gigging replacement for this jazz, I tried a Japanese '75 re-issue and remember thinking it was nice, but about the same weight as a Ford Focus, therefore not for me. Cheers, Karl.

E-Bay Horror Stories (Or humourous Ones!)
karlfer replied to bassatnight's topic in General Discussion
Whats wrong with that one? Anything that can be done to get round the monopolistic stranglehold ebay have over pretty much the entire used market is a good thing in my book, and if someone comes over tonight and pays me 400 quid for the bass/amp/whatever thats on ebastard for 450, I'll take it, as cash in hand face to face is safer than any amount of ebay "seller protection" especially if the buyer lives within comfortable driving distance, and I don't have to pay ebay and paypal for the privilege of being systematically ripped off when their "seller protection" is a total farce to begin with. I loathe and detest the way ebay treat honest sellers, and avoid them wherever possible. Call me old fashioned, but don't we all prefer the good old "service station with bundles of cash" method on this here forum?
Couldn't have put it better! The most infuriating thing is since ebay bought paypal, I have to offer paypal. I sold a bass on it lasy year for £440 and it ended up costing me £70 for the pleasure. BLOODY BANDITS.
