1. I bought an iPhone from The Dark Lord and all is good. Very clear and open comms and a smooth transaction.
2. When I click on the photos, I'm told they're private & I can't see them.
3. I keep a set of old strings in my bass bag. I've never broken a DB string but aware that my Slaps are around 2 years old now. On bass guitar, I have broken 2 strings live in 25 years so, again, not too worried.
4. [quote/] I picked one of these up a little while back from PTB, I am still blown away by it - the tone and sheer volume this tiny thing can provide is astonishing.
Glad you are still enjoying the amp Monkey Trick!
5. Miki Welcome to the UK! Like many on here, I have enjoyed your YouTube videos and you are clearly a great player. I hope it all works out for you.
6. Great to see you're making this your own, looks cool!
7.
He had a tuition video out in the late 80s or early 90s, well worth a look if you can get hold of it.
Me too. One of my top inspirations. I watched it over and over when I was about 19 & just starting on bass. There was also a great article he did about turnarounds in Guitar Player around '84. He's had an amazing life of great highs & very sad lows as previous posts have mentioned. I'm glad to see he's out playing again regularly with Gregg Allman.
8. Thanks to all the new mods for stepping up & sharing the load. I like it here!
9. Not tried the TH500 but I sold my Streamliner and went back to a LMII. There's also the fact that Genz Benz are no more: not sure I'd buy something from a company that doesn't exist even if Fender will no doubt honour warranty claims.
10. How about putting a fretted neck on it and playing it? Alternatively, I'm with ChrisB - sell it & enjoy the proceeds.
11. After the SE Bass Bash, we played at the Henry VI in Eton for the first time. It was an intimate space but we went down really well. Only trouble was that I was stood very near one of the PA speakers so had to ensure my lugholes were kept behind the speaker which was tough given the cramped conditions. Nice to have a couple of guest musos do a slot too. Tonight, another new venue, The Anchor in Faversham. A bit further than we normally go but another good gig. We are on a bit of a roll at the moment and I'm hoping we can keep the momentum up towards recording a CD.
12. Looking at the itinerary, I should be there just in time for the Dave Swift/Paul Geary session - result!. I'll lug my gear in after that. I will be bringing my DB too as we have a gig in Eton tonight. Missed last year's so looking forward to this one.
13. I am very happy with my Innovation Golden Slaps. The amplified sound is warm & clear in the mix and, as I found out a few weeks back, the record well into a Mic. Having said that, my set are almost 2 years old and I'm wondering if I simply get another set of Slaps or try some real guts. I have deferred doing anything about this til 2014 due to other pressing expenses but am looking forward to this.
14. I really like my Japanese Fender Jazz. It sounds like yours is a bargain so enjoy! I suspect your amp may be a little under powered with a band. Most of us on here are using 200 watts min in a band setting but, as you say, once you get sorted, you'll soon know if that's the case.
15. If you can make the SE bass bash on Saturday (bit of a trek from Devon I know - see separate thread for details), you could try my MB 121 with your bass and mine.
16. Looks great Jack. That'll reach right to the back of the George IV!
17. I just use a Boss LS 2 to switch between basses & balance the levels and send a line to my MarkBass combo. It works fine for me as neither instrument needs much eq'ing to sound good. If you need very different eq for one, I'd simply add something between the instrument & the LS2. If going into the PA, I also take separate D.I.'s before the LS2.
18. It's all true what they say about Andy! Great comms, quickly sent, packaging that would withstand a bomb, it arrived early & was exactly as described. What more could you ask for? He is a top man!
19. I have the same rig as Lozz and gsgbass and can heartily recommend it. Mine has been out most weeks for the last 5 years and has been 100% reliable. What's more, it sounds great with double bass, passive Fender or modern active 5. Both combo & cab pop up here in the Amps for sale section so worth keeping an eye open for one. The amp section can be bought separately as a Little Mark II or III so grab one of them & a cab or two if they come up first.
20. +2 Be open minded & trust your ears. Mark's a good guy.
21. Me neither. Not impressed.
22. It's worth a reminder of how good he was every couple of years! IIRC, he was a jazz guitarist before playing the bass, rather like Carol Kaye.
23. I learned on a couple of basic 4 strings. When I first started gigging, I had a Modulus Quantum 6. Now, 98% of my gigs are on double bass so I definitely fit the bill. I do still have a nice modern active 5 but it mainly gets played at home. I think tastes change, both in basses, what we see our peers & heros using and the type of music we want to play as we get on. The Modulus was a wonderful thing to have in the late 80s but I now prefer a simpler approach.
24. I've played this and it's a top piece of kit, great to play, sounds wonderful. Have a bump on me.
25. Here I am.....not sure what's distracting me up on the ceiling!
