1. Top combo from a top chap, how can you go wrong?!
2. I empathise with your situation. You don't say how you move the bass about. My bass bag has wheels on it which means I rarely have to carry it. I regularly walk for 5-10 mins pushing the bass along to one central London venue that you can't park near to. I certainly couldn't carry it that far! If you don't have wheels, I would recommend them as I would be in the same place as you without them.
3.
One word - endorsements!
I suspect most bass players at festivals will use IEMs and feed a DI to the PA so what kind of bass amp is on stage is irrelevant to what the crowd hears. It's likely to be whatever they endorse or whatever the promoter provides, as others have said.

5.
Got the job!
Great news, congratulations!
6. Fantastic, mojo aplenty! May I start the orderly queue of those happy to take this off your hands if you decide you'd prefer a P :-)
7. I once played to bar staff & the support band members. I was paid one packet of crisps.
8. I'm looking at the March '98 issue of Bass Player which has a transcription of Le Freak done by staff + Nile Rogers. In the accompanying text, in which Nile speaks on various matters, it says Bernard used his "favoured late 70s natural finish Stingray (with old roundwound strings) direct into the board."
9. According to the credits at the end of the video, that's session heavy Phil Mulford on upright. Thanks for posting.
10. Whoever can correctly identify these cases chronologically deserves the Golden Anorak award :-)
11. I've been regretting selling my CAR Sadowsky RV4 and that feeling was compounded last night when I came across a picture of Jimmy Earl in Bass Player magazine. He was holding a 66 Jazz in CAR with a rosewood board, blocks & binding. I shall therefore have one of them. The other one would be a 62 Jazz with a tort pickguard. If Oly White was added, I would choose it but otherwise, Sonic Blue please.
12. Bloody phone! As you were......:-)

NBD Super P

Very cool!
14. 1 Owen 2 TPJ 3 Clarky 4 PTB Could we have someone come and give a slap lesson/masterclass. I would love to be able to do it well but all the youtube clips in the world can't compare with seeing it in the flesh.
15. I have broken 2 strings and had one amp blow up in 30 years. However, I still take a bass guitar as a backup on DB gigs as uprights are fragile things and I tend to feel the show must go on & don't want to be the one who lets the side down. On bass guitar gigs, I somtimes like to play more than one bass per gig so take another more for my own enjoyment than as a backup. Can't remember ever taking a spare amp though.
16. I can't see the video on my phone but I have his first two albums and saw him live last year. He sings just like the cd's and is a great songwriter - he's the real deal. I think a new album is imminent and assume what you have posted comes from it so looking forward to seeing it.
17.
We got there early (7.45 ish) and already the best spot to be found was the third level balcony (same height as the mix desk). We couldn't see the whites of their eyes but had a full view of the stage. Great show, marginally better than Tuesday's as well.
Sounds like we were behind you. Must get there earlier next time.
18. It was a really great gig last night but we were stuck at the back behind a gathering of giants. I could see a few heads & shoulders onstage but Mrs PTB & my daughter couldn't see a thing despite shuffling around the venue. Still, musically it was superb.
19. I use my S12 with a MB LM II. I've never been short of power and love the tone with all my various basses.
20. Gigging my 121/121 rig tonight @ George IV on Chiswick High Rd, can't wait. Great sound, easy load in & out & it has never let me down.
21. I really should have bought tickets for the lot months ago. One day, I will learn my lesson. Still, roll on Sunday!
22. Mrs PTB and I are going on Sunday night. I notice many of the other nights are sold out. Any other BC'rs going along to wish him a happy 75th?
23. I also use a MarkBass head with a Barefaced S12 and leave the eq knobs at noon and the filters mostly off. As others have said, I doubt that is truly flat: instead, it's the signature sound of the amp & I like it. I also appreciate the lack of fiddling involved in getting a good sound.
