It's time to sell my faithful MarkBass cab as it just isn't getting used. It's an older model without the yellow logo & cones that some love/hate. It sounds great but my smaller MarkBass rig covers all my current needs so I'd rather have the cash & space. It's a STD103HQ model with three 10" speakers and a tweeter which is adjustable on the top left hand side of the cab. It's rated at 600w and 6 ohms (actually 5.3 I believe) which almost every amp can handle. I'm not sure of the exact weight but I'd guess that it's less than 50lbs as I, a self-confessed weakling with a bad back, can lift it and carry it to the car. I bought it used 2 or 3 years back and it's in very good condition. It's from a smoke free house too. Collection from Croydon or possible delivery/meet-up or feel free to arrange a courier to collect from me once payment has cleared.

I have this rig too. I use it mostly with double bass but it sounds great with bass guitar too. For small, pubs and as a stage monitor with PA support, I think it's a very good rig. Adding the extension cab gives you more of everything and is well worthwhile IMO - I wish I'd done it sooner. An alternative to this would be to buy 2 of the cabs and a MarkBass head. The combo you refer to has an LM II or III in it. I think there may be 2 of these cabs for sale here on BC and MB amps & combos pop up fairly often. Unless you are in a rush, I would certainly go used.

I must admit to looking longingly at this in the FS section over the last few weeks. I hope you'll both be very happy together.

I have lost a stone & a half since September so I've asked for a smaller belt. I can now fit into clothes I bought a couple of years ago so it already feels like I've got a new wardrobe. Will be trying very hard not to put it all back on over Xmas :-)

I suspect it's more likely to be the connection between the amp & speaker. Check the connection at both ends. I once had a similar thing with a cab and the cable had come away at the speaker end & just needed re attaching.

I am also a fan. I use the CMD121P combo & NY121 cab and, for me, it gets the right balance of tone, price & portability. I am sure there's plenty of stuff that excels in one or two of these but for me, MB works & has proven reliable after 300+ gigs in 5 years. It also sounds great with both double bass & bass guitar. I also own a LM II head & an old MB 3x10 cab but can't recall when I last used either.

Hope you enjoy them both. Personally, I'd want a Lakland in the Burns' colour scheme.

regular swapping between two basses during gig

I use a Boss LS-2 which are readily available second hand. You can match the levels of your two basses and it allows a variety of functions well beyond the normal A B box. -

Hope it went well for you and your son, the first of many. I'm accompanying my daughter later today who is delighted with a distinction yesterday in grade 5 popular singing. Her younger sister will be on keys. It feels great knowing we all enjoy making music together.
I tried a few recently and really found it hard to adjust, Especially on a 5 string! All that meat behind the thicker strings just made the neck feel HUGE! Personally, i'm not a fan at all.
If it felt huge, it was huge I expect but not all asymmetrical necks are. My MTD 535 has one that is quite shallow and feels great to me. I don't really notice the asymmetric part whilst playing, it just feels good to me. I certainly wouldn't call it meaty. Having said that, I have owned & played many basses without this feature & I have never wished for this as the missing ingredient. All I am really saying to the OP is that necks are very personal like most tactile things. I think that you need to ask Ruach if you can play some of their basses with different neck profiles to see what you prefer or take them in your favourite neck as a template/starting point.

If I come up to Loughborough again in January (and it's only an if just now), I'll let you know. I can bring mine up with me. That might be as good as it gets unless you want to come down south where there seems to be a cluster of 121p's and helpful BCers.

Having sold my own Metro earlier this year, I'd say that was a fair price. I'd still haggle though!

Have a look at Elderly.com. They stock pick-ups for all sorts of acoustic instruments and are good to deal with.

I remain very happy with my B-Band Statement. This consists of two wing p/ups + one under the bridge foot like a realist. These go to a bespoke pre-amp that allows you to set two different blends between the wing & foot p/ups & foot switch between them. I find the sound good, it's very resistant to feedback and engineers are always happy with a d I from the pre-amp. The blend function is my main source of tone shaping on a gig. The bad news is that this was discontinued a few years back but B-band still do a simpler p/up - has anyone got one?

I'm a fan too. They're back live in London next May & I plan to be there.
