  1. Received my third and fourth wiring kits from John today. We discussed options and the deal was done in a thee day turnaround. Great service and high quality. Many thanks.
  2. I've regrettted every bass I've sold and every bass I will sell. There was one bass I never regretted moving on, but I gave that away for free with the suggestion it should be used as firewood.
  3. My experience is that, the cheaper ones (even ones with a 'lifetime guarantee'), will always break. I broke one after six months and it had never been coiled, stepped on, rolled over or even left the house. It just sat in the corner of my living room between my amp and my bass and quietly broke itself. The trick for me is to find the best price/quality option and, in the UK, I like many people get OBMM of this forum to make them for me from quality components.
  4. Bought a Stingray pickguard in a nice easy transaction. Many thanks Graham.
  5. I've owned a few Jazz basses over the years, all of them Fender. Thus follows the rambling story of my Jazz Bass life. My main Jazz at the mo is a Japanese '75 reissue which I can't find any fault with, (it's not stock though, with aftermarket pups). When I first picked it up it felt instantly familiar... I bought it because it was a ringer for the first serious bass guitar I ever owned, an original USA '75 Jazz, that I had to sell in the late nineties. I paid a little over the odds for a Jap Fender because of its rare colour combo. Too much time has passed for me to impartially compare the original and the reissue but I seem to recall the american '75 was a lot heavier, or perhaps I've imagined that because of all the other heavy 70's Fenders I've encountered over the years. Before the Jap was an S1 American standard circa mid noughties. I'd agree with the comment above and describe this, when stock, as a bit too polite and perhaps a bit sterile. The body lifeless compared to a resonant nitro finished P bass I made a couple of years ago, but that's a criticism you could make of alot of poly finished guitars. I solved the lack of character with overwound pups and Jamerson strings. It had the nicest neck and fretwork I've yet to encounter on a Fender and. for me, I consider the premium I'd pay for the american version is the quality of the neck. I didn't want to sell it, but my finances at the time dictated otherwise, and I would happily buy another american standard or the new professional. I've never owned a mexican Jazz and that's mainly because my friend has a 90's one which I really don't like. He gigs it regularly and I don't want to tell him I think his bass is a dog. The G string's too close to the edge of the fretboard and the frets are poorly finished. The pups meh and the weight middling. Very underwhelming overall and, although I belive it when people tell me Mexican Fenders have upped their game, it's put me off. I did once play a roadworn P in a shop and that felt great. Just the other week though I bought a second hand Classic Vibe Jazz. This is my third classic vibe (I wish I'd kept the other two) and I can't stop picking it up! It sits next to my Jap Jazz and it's not a better instrument in my opinion, but I just keep picking it up to marvel at the quality of it! The pots are a bit shonky and pups a bit nonedescript but the neck feels great and the whole thing has a lovely solid feel to it. I've never tried a VM so can't compare. TLDR;? To my mind, the best bang for buck Fender/Squier Jazz is the Classic Vibe.
  6. Thank you. It does say Jazz Bass on there, but it's in a black font when it probably needed to be white.
  7. Here's a couple of mine. A black Jap 75RI jazz and a 'Desert Gold' Singray
  8. Looks nice. 'Collection preferred' from where?
  9. I'm into my mid fourties now and I'm still on the lookout for new music, but I don't actively pursue it like I did in my youth. This is mainly because, over the last ten years or so, I've found it increasingly difficult to keep the company of self absorbed musicians or their sycophantic enablers. I started drawing again a few years ago, and found the company of people who express themselves artistically in ways other than playing music, to be a breath of fresh air. Generally they seem on the whole much more humble and tolerable. Sometimes, you have to convince them to even show you their creative endeavours to begin with. Imagine that! Then, you might even have an actual, honest a god, two way conversation with them about their work... 'mazin'
  10. Second time posting on Dunc's gear tart wall of shame. I did the buying this time. Messages were responded to double quick and said bass was with me tout suite and in good order. Double thumbs up from me.
  11. Seeing some of the handsome collections in this thread, somebody must be able to recommend me a good multi guitar stand.
  12. All full off pointing at the jack socket.
  13. Don't do it! Can't you sell the AVRI and use the proceeds to get a luthier to make you what you want? Or buy a new body for it and mod that instead? Or use a more common second hand american standard that might benefit from the TLC? You'd be making an irreversable mod to a valuable guitar rendering it virually unsellable to anybody who isn't looking for that specific model with that exact specification, ie nobody but yourself. Only joking! It's your guitar and if that's what makes you happy. Perhaps you want to take it to the grave with you. You pay's your money and takes your choice. But seriously, don't.
  14. Since first owning an S1 Jazz, I've now insisted on this mod for every jazz since. A useful option to have. If you're not good with a soldering iron, Basschat's own Ki0gon will make you a high quality push/pull series/parallel loom for a price, so no drilling required either.
  15. I'm up to a personal best of three at the moment, having dropped down to zero earlier this year. I've got a Stingray, a Jazz and a Westone Thunder which I'd like to soon supplant with a Precision to complete that Leo Fender trinity thing. I know I only need one bass, but I reminisce about all the basses I've sold over the years (usually because I was skint). Fortunes dictate that I am allowed to collect... for the time being. I'll sell them all eventually with the usual tinge of regret.
  16. I've noticed that there's more Jazz basses for sale recently because I've been looking for a Precision. They're not better or worse because that's entirely subjective. Most of the basses for sale of either variety have been sunburst, which I can entirely understand.

  18. I love the Meters, but I'm hard pressed to think of a band who sound just like them. Charles Wright occasionally? Sometimes reminiscent of Dyke And The Blazers? Besides the excellent use of space to let their melodies breathe, I've also accredited some of the success of their sound (in my mind at least) to the way the bass and lead guitar sometimes choose to replicate each other. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u_cB6zANXo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jx4yrCc3DFo
  19. Sold Ewan some Labella flats today. He came to collect and we had a good old natter about all things bass. Would certainly recommend. Hope you like the strings mate.
  20. All your base are belong to us. How many bass guitars do Fender/EBMM/Yamaha/ect. make every year? Are less basses made now than in the 1970's? Are there more manufacturers now than thirty years ago? Do any such figures exist as to how many bass guitars are made per year? By country? Continent? Worldwide? I have none of these answers. I asked myself what are the chances of meeting a random new person and discovering that they played, or at least owned, a bass guitar. It occurred to me that I have absolutely no idea. Any speculative theories would be welcome.
  21. I like these strings so much I overenthusiastically bought two sets recently. Only for the sake of change I've decided to try a different brand, so I'm keeping one set for the future and selling the other. Brand new and unopened, this is the 0760M 'Jamerson' strings. They're big and heavy and stiffer than an arthritic pensioner with a bag of viagra. I think they sound fabulous. £40 gets them posted in the UK. Paypal gift or bank transfer please. https://imgur.com/u5MSnAt
  22. One more bump then I'll have to get one custom cut.
  23. Another bump. I'll buy if you don't want to trade?
