1. Hehe.. Seymour Duncan will generally make a real difference even over the USA Fender pickups! You could always sell the Jazz and go for something with a similar neck such as Ibanez SR - plenty powerful and crop up at some good prices used.
2. I can never remember which pin is which on a barrel jack, so I always work it out afresh with a test meter and a stereo jack plug. Most commonly you get two black wires, which form the switching part of the negative side of the battery. They go battery neg to sleeve, circuit board neg to ring.
3.
Why on earth are bass amps so powerful?
Nobody has risen to this one!
4.
The screw is unscrewed as far as it will go (none left protruding) so a shorter screw won't help unfortunately. Might have to be a new string, which is a bugger because I use flats and I can't recall anywhere selling individual strings.
We do! We sell Picato, and I currently have both .100 and .105 here; others are available to special order.
5. If it's so tantalisingly close, possibly a slightly lighter or heavier string might just do the trick due to different stretch rates. It'll be down to experimentation.. let the fun commence!
6. New strings. Bizarrely - I was once shown this by one of my set-up-wizard friends - the kinking of the string caused by playing can spoil the setup. Also they stretch, and eventually that becomes uneven stretch hence causes problems with intonation.
7. I used to do this with 410s then 210s, now I occasionally do it with 112s. Some bands like it, some hate that they are made to hear the bass wherEVER they stand!:-D
8. I have a normal Antex 30W with the smallest flat tip I could find.. anything big just gets in the way. Changing the tip is dead easy. Also have a basic temperature controlled one with a pointy tip, which I use most of the time. Both excellent for guitar wiring and basic amp work.
9. Nicely! :-)
10. Don't you just love those automatic Sponsored Links.. 'Super Cheap Jolana Bass' and 'Buy Rick Bass At Amazon' It's tempting to go on Gumtree advertising genital warts or somesuch.
11.
Definately interested to hear your findings on this head to head. (as a fellow shuttle 6.2 owner)
Possible YT video moment?
12.
Another band got back to me a week later, said no, then 6 weeks later got in touch letting me they made a terrible mistake and would I still be interested? I thought it was a bit cheeky, but the answer was yes.
You have to remember that, from the band's point of view, they get to meet the prospective new members for maybe an hour. It's only once you start regular practices and gigs that the true extent of the relationship shows - first impressions can be quite wrong, too!
13. Hi Daf, so are these the hybrid/prototype set, or am I going to have to try a new set? :-D
14. Whatever happened to Big Beef Chief? ;-)
15. Drop them down a bit; if you can fit a little bit of masking tape on the side of them you could put a mark on each one to remind you where they were so it's all reversible. You might have to up the gain slightly, but the main thing is to keep them in balance.
16. I think maybe you need more drugs and sex!
17. Cheers, chaps! The weight is really no issue - surprisingly heavy for the size, but really not that much. I'd prefer to keep the full range capability.. made a couple of phone calls, and was given the number for RMJ Loudspeakers, who do a full-on recone service. Roy is actually making a new coil from scratch; as he put it 'it'll be better put together than Eminence did it'! http://recones.com/ Will let you know how it all goes.
18.
Aw man, I used to love my trace stack I sold it for a markbass after my keys player (who used to drive it around) had a heart attack next to me onstage at 27! I've never looked back in many ways, but I do miss the preamp and the cool green/uv stage presence. If they made a modern take of it in a small package I'd be all over it!
Excellent rig.. must have been the bright box that just tipped your keys guy over the edge.
19. Tons of such things on Ebay.. I just searched Allen grub screw.. item 321247066609
20.
Without being pedantic, they were all built in the UK possibly with the exception of some of the later Boxer range (TE engineering badges) and maybe some of the Goldtone guitar amps with Gibson badges.. All GP7, GP12, V-Type and Commando ranges were built in the UK.
Ah, my misunderstanding! So when was the British manufacturing actually stopped? The modern amps are, I believe, PRC built and have less of a reputation. If I had to find a new head I'd probably look at the old ones first. . daft prejudice?
21. Martin Barre says in his Gear history that he bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom back in 1970 that turned out to be a fake.. 'it was a fake and didn’t stay in the collection very long! But I used it on Benefit.' I've never listened to that album and thought there was anything wrong with the guitar tones - did the fakeness matter to anyone but Martin?
22. Have you considered the head-and-cab route? It's what I've done for ages, so only the one head to learn for tone settings etc, with different cabs (tweaks to amp settings, perhaps) for different uses. 1x10 great for practice/small gig, up to two cabs for loud gigs.
23. Gawd! No surprise there, then. Luggage handlers are renowned for really not being bothered, in fact the more fuss you make about how precious something is the more likely they are to throw it or drop things on it. This is why so many DB players resort to an EUB or arrange to rent/borrow locally.
24. ... which is to say it's an excellent piece of kit! ;-)
