How do any of you folks find the TC heads for volume? I got a BC212 recently, and found it a bit on the quiet side when run at the same time as a couple of other 8 Ohm cabs I have. I noticed that TC say you can run THREE of their 8R cabs with their bass heads, but only two of anyone elses. You can't fool with electronics that much, so I did a DC resistance measurement, which came out noticeably higher on the BC212 than on any other cab I have; suggests to me that they're actually more like a 12R cab, hence the ability to run 3 at once. Just wondering how the heads have performed for any of you in real life rather than on paper.. the actual number of Watts is something of a technicality when it comes to sound.

+1 for networking.. shamelessly as you like - the worst answer is 'sling yer 'ook' or words to that effect! MU still publish a directory; I think they still do a print version (turns up seemingly at random every few years) but online will be the most up to date. Pretty much all of my work has come through the first, but no regrets at having joined MU yonks back.. if nothing else I've actually been able to insure my car including business use as a musician!
... with the whif of the Nigerian Prince ..
Ah, takes me back to the good old days of empire! Back OT, I was expecting a demand for money or bank details in there, too. Prob to come later.

One strap per bass, and a decent strap at that if it's a gigging bass. If I don't do it that way, I just know I'll be at a gig with one bass and no strap!

Yup, Vol/Pan for me.. easy to knock the volume down in one go, whether for effect or off at the end of a number.

I never had a problem, as such, with the lifting, but then I was mad into rock climbing so I suppose I was pretty fit at the time. TWO of the Peaveys, with a Trace preamp into a Peavey CS1000 power amp.. loud and very clean 'cos of the headroom, but that was a proper carful of gear! Thinking of this has reminded me that I wired a couple of speaker sockets into the boot of the car - Escort then Fiesta so I had to have the back seats down - then I could plug the bog-standard cassette player through the pair of 410Ts.. some thought it a little extreme! :-D
-
I used to have a couple of Peavey 410T cabs about 20-25 years ago.. belting kit, loud as you like and clear too! Not a one hand lift, mind..
That's what I'm thinking, I'm running an orange terror bass 500, it's 500 watts does that mean the speakers I get have to be 500 watts or above? Sorry for being thick, I'm only a bassist after all Haha
As the TB500 has switchable output impedance, I'd guess it's capable of putting out the full 500W RMS (so can spike higher than that) into an 8Ohm cab, which is what you have with 2 x 16Ohm speakers, when played flat out. Are you likely to really push your amp? 2 speakers in parallel, each capable of taking 200W, gives you 400W handling. Thus it depends on you not to hit the cab TOO hard as it stands. If you tend to really push it (you must be in a mad loud band!) you'd probably be better with 300 or 400W speakers x 2 for a bit of leeway. If you go down that road, they tend to get heavier and more expensive!

Another option is to have the existing ones reconed.. not many of these guys around these days, but in the North there's RMJ.. http://www.recones.com/ Roy has done a couple of my 'Custom made by Eminence for xxx' speakers, brilliant job!

I had one briefly, a while back. An amazing piece of kit, but with all those knobs and switches my poor brain just couldn't compute in real time so I sold it on and went for a simple bass/treble job. If the reason you're considering this move is harshness in a Fender J (albeit a US DLX), this is the third time in a few days I've come across this comment. I'd also consider other aspects such as strings. Tone-wise, so as to suss out whether a change of pre would actually have the desired effect, why not get hold of a parametric eq? If you can reshape your tone suitably then at least you know just which frequency(-ies) your pre needs to work on.

+1 for bonding! My 'ultrabond' bass is here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/44673-ibanez-roadster-megacustom/page__hl__ibanez%20roadster I have so much time and soul invested in that bass that it took me a loooong time to find anything else; I mention part way through that process that I finally got an Overwater.. played a particular model and something in me went 'bump'. It took me about four years to justify pressing the button on the same model, but once it finally arrived it didn't disappoint in any way.. still got that, and it will be in action at the end of the week. A very interesting experiment is to go to one of the specialist places such as Bass Direct and play a variety of basses. You either soon start to realise what all this talk of bonding is about, or you are happy enough playing anything. We're not all the same, thank goodness!

I did loads of gigs on a 210. Especially with modern, more efficient speakers and cab design there are some brill cabs. Traded my last 210 with Beneath It All a few years ago. . great cab, often wonder where it is now. Oak-faced MDF with front port; I had a knife and fork sticker on the front.

We had a used USA Jazz, mid-2000s, in the shop a little while back. The tone with steel Rotos as fitted was just painfully bright for my taste, both acoustically and hence electrically. With so much acoustic brightness, I'd say pickups wouldn't mellow it down. I'd have put halfrounds on for myself.

What manner of bass are you thinking of for this? It occurs to me that the standard shaft is spot on for plate mounting or a thinner top, while those longer shafts are probably ideal for more of a thicker range of tops.
Sorry for being dozy. One of these? http://www.ebay.co.u...K%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
That would work, but the long shaft might get in the way unless you use either a spacer or both nuts on the one shaft. The standard length one is thus: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/One-Genuine-USA-EMG-Short-Brass-Split-Shaft-25K-Volume-Tone-Potentiometer-Pot-/161595674719?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item259fda505f This one is the solderless version: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMG-25K-Tone-Pot-with-short-split-shaft-Cables-4-pin-Solderless/370724797133?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D30111%26meid%3D888d45c01a4442b6a657f79ac59557fa%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D3%26sd%3D321727835981&rt=nc and I just saw they now do a 25K with push-pull switch (ideal for the active-passive EQ): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EMG-25K-Push-Pull-Pot-with-short-split-shaft-Cables-6-pin-Solderless-/371176804444?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item566bdc905c Running at a higher voltage doesn't so much raise the volume as the headroom. Just that bit clearer, especially if you play hard.
-
Most welcome, Dood.. if I could justify it it would be mine already! Located near Predator Country?
-
Yup, you can even install a kind of active passive switch, except in this case it would refer to the EQ. You need the usual 'passive' tone pot as per EMG, i.e. 25k with tone capacitor.

This one, in BFS..http://basschat.co.uk/topic/258666-overwater-progress-series-i-5-string/page__p__2756211__hl__overwater__fromsearch__1#entry2756211 with 16.5mm string spacing and 36" scale.. and it'll be typically superb quality.

Selling on Basschat, a suggestion to the MODs
hubrad replied to bassface2k10's topic in General Discussion
It strikes me, as an extra benefit, that preset tags also gets us round either spelling mistakes (not so common on BC, but we've all browsed on Ebay and chortled at the Finder Precocious basses, I'm sure!) or variance (is it 5string or 5 string? Or strings? Or Five?) I think most on here are either fairly knowledgeable about their gear, or at least interested enough to learn from others.
