A 4ohm cab doesn't mean that you have to put out 750Watts There's a knob called 'volume' or something similar Have the cab at 4ohms gives you all the options, from quiet to 750watts, otherwise why not just buy a cheaper 500w amp? Peter
-
Why 8ohms? A 4ohm cab will allow you use the amp up to it's max output. Unless of course you already have an 8 Ohm cab you want to pair it with (as opposed to a 8" cab) I'd have thought that a lightweight 4 ohm 2x12 would suit your purpose better? Or have I missed something? Peter

Just why is blues so important when learning bass?
GreeneKing replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
A whole lot of rock uses the Blues/altered blues scale. Riffs also translate well through the chord progression. The 12 bar pattern gives a good anchor and it's great for jam nights. It's also a genre that is, imo, underrated musically. Peter -
In my world there's considerable difference between saying that you don't like something or that it doesn't float your boat and labeling it lame The interweb however is a flawed medium for expressing oneself.
-
Could you not see the smile on Hodgies face as he was playing? To say it was lame is just well, extremely lame in itself imo. No it not bass as we know it Jim but it's superb playing and a great rendition of the song played unusually and brilliantly on a bass. Very talented and very enjoyable. Not to be taken uber seriously and perhaps a more open attitude would help? All imo. Peter
Bath tub curve?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve Basically, things tend to either fail early due to inbuilt manufacturing faults or late due to age. The graph of failure rate against time looks like a bath tub.
-
Oh Dear Mark Sounds like the bath-tub curve has struck again. I've heard of very few failures but those have been dealt with pretty damn expediently. Peter

making a chinese bass sound like an american one...

Personally I wouldn't go for the bridge 1st. I've fitted BaddAss bridges to several basses and to be honest the results have always been underwhelming in the extreme. The best sounding 7ender I've ever played has bent tin for a bridge. I'd give Andy at Wizard a rig and chat about what you're looking for. Peter -
I think Spector Jazzes are unnecessary but we all know how popular Jazz derivatives are are despite their stunted development curve. I blame all the duffers who can't see beyond all things J for leading Spector in this direction to develop their market. I suppose what I'm really saying is that conservatism is the cause of such a move.
Anyone selling a rosewood 3TSB Roscoe Beck?
Don't sound GAS free to me My Status Empathy 5er headless, RH450 and 2xDB112's are doing it for me. But then there's the Alembic 'thing'.

When tightening a trussrod I make it's job a lot easier by putting my left foot behind the bottom of the bass body at the back and my left knee about where the neck body join would be. My right knee goes opposite my left foot holding the bass secure and my left hand gently tensions the neck while I adjust the rod to hold it in it's new position. This has in the past allowed adjustment when the rod is very stiff and can loosen it up a whole lot. Care needs to be taken not to force anything where it desn't want to go. Peter

These'll be what they had at Manchester Bassday I suspect? I'm sure they've superbly well made but I can't see how the price difference between them and the cheap BB's is justified. Wait 6 months and I suspect they'll be heavily discounted.

Starting a thread and then closing it because you don't like the responses? Must be nice to be a moderator eh Interesting product and I'd like to hear one, can anyone produce some sound samples? I never damp my strings when playing, other than to stop them ringing out of course.
i think they look a bit strange and dont have any protection for bashing the 'headstock' against peoples heads... ^_^
Is that you on the bike Mr Crow? Nice. I find the above a bit odd. A lump of brass and carbon fibre less protection than wood and tuners Being shorter overall the likelihood of hitting something (unintentionally) is much reduced anyway. Balance wise it's a bass by bass thing and the lack of inertia from moving around with the bass is only a good thing. My 15mm spaced Status Empathy 5 has rapidly become the most playable bass I've ever owned - full stop. I've owned a huge number of basses too. Doesn't go out of tune (well maybe a tiny amount) with temperature, no dead spots on the neck and it can sound really warm too. Peter
Yes, as I understand it (not been on it myself other than to look at the log-in page). I believe it features a number of BC exiles and/or persona non grata (eg Bass Ferret) thus there is some sort of rivalry that gets cited occasionally when there is a controversy on this site.
Don't forget the majority of Finbassers who co-exist quite happily 'celebrating the difference' as the French say. I've had a large number of sales and trades on BC to the extent that my feedback thread is a mere suggestion I will say that in the opposite of a post above that European BCers have been amongst the best to deal with. Very few bad experiences, the most prevalent being folk who don't respond to pm when they should merely out of simple politeness.
what do you mean not at all puny despite the 450Watts??? Are we all playing 1000+ capacity venues or something?
Strange comment? You don't do irony? Peter

This bass doesn't need a replacement bridge as several folks have said it's got the new bridge. Not that a P bass can't sound absolutely glorious with a bit of bent tin. Congratulations on an absolute bargain.
