Sorry to peeve you Peter - I didn't mean it quite that way - anyway, my apologies to you and any other offendees.
Just me being a bit fussy I guess. I sometimes think folk don't think overly when they write on someone's for sale thread. This is a great bass and if I played 4's I'd be seriously tempted.
Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying, Duck Dunn Special Edition from 2003 - hence the Lakland catalogue for 2003. But it uses the body and standard 1.75" neck of a Glaub unlike the present second version DD which uses Glaub body and Osborn neck with blocks and binding.
Yeah I was just a little peeved at you calling it a Bob Glaub under another name Not that BG's are anything but very nice basses too. Spector Euro LX 5 awaits new John East goodness
Peter, will the push/pull "de-active" the pickups too? I tried running my EMGs in the NS5 with the U-Retro off and it sounded really thin and horrible.
No Sean the knob will only deactivate the pre-amp. The pickups will remain active. I reason that if you switch to passive to cope with the onset of a low battery then the pickups will drain a lot less and be less effected by a reduced voltage. I'm wondering if I can squeeze 2 x 9v batteries in the cavity, I suspect not and maybe a battery compartment will come along further down the line? Peter -

My Spector NS5 had been modded with a John East U-Retro. It came with an 18V HazLab cut and boost treble/bass circuit and the addition of sweepable mids had significantly enhanced what was already an awesome bass. The two switches are tucked away in the control cavity and the unit is used in active only. My backup white Euro 5 LX has the 9V HazLab unit that is so highly thought of across the pond. I'm missing the onboard mids and was left with the decision of how to progress with upgrading it. Thanks to John he's sourced a pot to combine the separate volume and blend on the 5 Knob U-Retro Deluxe to accommodate the Euro's 4 holes. So that will be vol/blend, treble cut and boost/bass boost (with bright pull), sweepable mid frequency/mid cut and boost, passive tone (with pull for passive) and no switches. How lucky we are to have someone like John who offers such excellent products that he's prepared to modify for his customers. I'll do some sort of install/review thread. Peter

Nice idea. You do play a long way toward the neck too I notice. I find the floating thumb technique where you move the thumb down the strings as you change string, helps a lot in terms of locating, changing position along the length of the strings for tonal variety and damping strings. I used to play near the neck but find myself moving towards the bridge more lately, especially for rapid fingerstyle as there is less string movement.
Is that all research for the Social Work matey? Eude
Tis true though, life really does get better with a bit of heroin in, ask any user Yes it's illegal, can kill you, addictive and doesn't solve problems only creates them but it works in the short term, allegedly. That's why folk use it.
For a single-cut I think the shaps is quite nice (much better than those with a massive bump where the top horn should be) but the control area looks a bit messy with the mixture of control knob types and the jack plate
This hasn't got a massive bump where the top horn should be Ped? I'd like to see a bass that does then It's a Fodera, it looks like a Fodera! If you like Fodera's you'll probably like this If not.......

I will do Pete although I suspect it'll be just myself. Peter
Hi Guys, Cheers for the comments - some good some bad as you always expect! Think I might head out and test one for myself and see what they sound like. Certainly the portability looks interesting and the combining of the tuner and compressor would mean now need for a rack with a head and tuner in it and also one less pedal on the board too! Mark
I didn't read much bad in there? The TalkBass thread is nearly 40 pages of praise for this amp and is worth a visit if you have time to spare. Getting rid of a rack was in part my aim and it succeeded Peter

First of all I may be stepping into controversy here, or maybe not (I'm sure I'll soon find out, but I'm not courting it). I'm putting this ad up on behalf of someone who isn't welcome on here. Yes this is giving him access to BC's sales facilities but it's also making gear available to a whole lot of people who wouldn't otherwise be aware. I could link in a for sale thread from eBay or Gumtree or a 'mate' and the seller could be Genghis Khan's evil brother or worse but no-one would make a comment. If anyone has any questions feel free to pm me and I can put them in touch with the seller. Peter Genz Benz Shuttle 6.0 c/w footswitch and bag Two NeoX112T cabs. This is a great little rig. Tube Pre is great because there are two volume controls, one on the in and one on the out. So if you want clean; in at 3 o'clock, out at 9 o'clock. Warm; in and out at 12 o'clock. Dirty; in 9 o'clock, out 3 o'clock. Three band EQ with para mid control. Three pre-shapes; bass boost, mid cut, top boost. All 3 controlled from the footshitch and all 3 on gives you the slap sound (if you must) that is usually just one switch on most amps. As you good people know of my good fortune in picking up a new rig cheap as chips I am gonna let this go cheap as chips. I would prefer to sell complete and for collection cos I am a lazy FlowerpotFlowerpotFlowerpotFlowerpot. £600 the lot.

I forgot to mention the 3 band compressor too. There's clear indication for everything, fine tuning, gain and clipping, semi parametric setup, tubetone, compressor operation. Good to hear some folk have been using them for a good while with no apparent reliability issues. There's a huge largely +ve thread on TalkBass. Peter

I've gigged mine a couple of times, either through one or two Aguilar DB112's depending on the venue. As an ex LMII user I'm very pleased. It has quite a 'warm' tone (and that's entirely subjective of course) and I wouldn't let the lack of 50 'paper watts' put you off. Plusses, tone, variability (semi parametric on all 4 EQ's) features - 3 presets, pedal with mute and remote tuner, useful tube emulation. Minuses, one Speakon output (need to 'daisy chain' two or more cabs), can't read the 'captions' under the cover lip (not an issue in practice I find). I would say they are quite expensive and I also get the feeling that the cabs maybe aren't as good as the head? Legion has gigged his more often than me though. Peter

Well Rich, my GAS trail is possibly too embarrassing to the point that I can't remember all the participants. I'm loving my Empathy though That S2 5er is a bit immense. Peter

I'm surprised that this is still knocking around, especially at this price. These bags are the ultimate in protection and toughness in my experience and I manage to fit cables, spare tuner, spare batteries, cleaning cloth and even a stand in mine too with room to spare. I've not tried an iGiG but I'm over the moon with my No1 gig bag and paid a whole lot more than this for it. Peter
