1. Very nice. How does the Thumb balance?
2. Got mine yesterday, excellent! Peter
3. A few surfaced on this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...1&hl=straps
4. I'm trying out with a Jazz oriented band on Monday night. If successful I'll probably end up wearing a beret and being quietly smug No offence intended.
5. Well the filter pre has a low pass filter with a resonance knob just like the MoogerFooger. It also has a high pass filter. Thanks for the offer, two great pedals but not ones I'm needing. Peter
6. Not forgetting that Fender actually use Leo Quan bridges. I just checked, the US Fender MM V now comes with a Fender High Mass bridge. Is this a new development? I'm glad it's not just me that thinks P's can sound good with bent tin bridges. Peter
7. When I had my 1st ACG specced I spent the most enjoyable 3+ hours talking through all the options and possibilities, discussing why some things work and some don't, choosing woods and matching the same, spending time getting to know the guy who was applying his craft, getting a feel for value and in the process as it turned out making a good friend. Hassle?? I'm surprised a bit at the OP's stance. He seems to be suggesting that he is in some way 'right' or superior in his insistence that a whole load of us would be better off just practising more often with an off the shelf bass. I don't see no mutual exclusivity here. Can I not have a custom bass AND devote much time to perfecting my musicianship, does it make me any the less if I don't? Maybe this is not the case and it's entirely my distorted grasp of this thread but I believe the provocation has been quite deliberate and is coming from a slightly 'better than' stance. Many bass players have offered a valid alternative position that seems to me to be discounted.
8. Welcome in Some photos of the actual bass will be expected. Peter
9. How about a Stereo Memory Man with Hazerai? Loads of weird possibilities with looping too.
10.
Definitely a few nice models, if a bit pricey
If the quality is commensurate that could be a good thing. Interesting range in the eBay shop.
11. Buttercream and maple - very pretty indeed
12. Sei Jazz, missed that bit, same thing though I believe and very good too. Peter
13.
Gonna start this now, the next week will see a big change being made to my 5 string Sei Jazz It's currently running a pair of Bart' soap bars through a Bart' pre amp. The pre is 3 band with 2, 3 way switches for coil selection . Into it I am putting, a pair of Nordstrand Humbuckers and an East pre, with a switch added for the side neck LED's. No coil selection switches, no series / par' switches. The p/ups are going in, wired in series. I'll upload a picture of the bass, pre overhaul, later today Tony
Are you putting in 'off the shelf' U-Retro Tony? Peter
14.
I'm confused my friend, you say i should have been here 3 or 4 day ago,...........what happened 3 or 4 days ago to cause you so much pain?
Alan sold the Shuker to behold above all other (4 string) Shukers
15. OMG don't get Steve Lawson involved again!
16. I can lend you my sea kayak Al
17.
I think the only issue that Bilbo has bought up here, is where is the line between a hand-built bass, and a custom built bass. Si
If something is mass produced you join the queue and when your number is called out you take your box from the counter. If something is handmade to order it's usual to be able to influence the process. I think the whole custom thing is a bit of a misnomer. If you asked a good luthier to build something totally unworkable, unreliable or impractical hopefully they'll tell you this. I think Bilbo is partly chucking in a hand grenade and watching the ensuing chaos, a bit of a pompous thing to do perhaps? Maybe I'm totally wrong and it's a serious worthy debate. Maybe Bilbo needs to get out more? I know I do
18. A deal with the MM has been struck for a bass originating from my home town, well the nearest of any size and the oldest recorded town in Britain. I'm hoping us Essex boys will get on. If anyone is interested in the Warmoth give me a shout. Welcome to visit and try it out over a cuppa. Peter
19.
What I'm trying to say is that some people are happy with whatever partner they meet, while others join a dating agency to find a partner that fits their criteria. Am I making sense here?...or shall I get me coat?
No you make sense Pete Trouble is the woman that I tend to aspire too is usually like a guitar - highly strung!

That looks very nice, with my P I'm probably biased. Shame you're not interested in IV's
21.
So, Bilbo, judging from your post, am I right in thinking you wouldn't be very fussy about your women, then?
Ooh, below the belt that one Pete ?
22. It's got a very wide frequency spectrum (Alex will be along in a minute to use correct terminology). It does 'old school really well and with flats can delivery a real 'thump'. The beauty of the ACG pre-amp is it's versatility and this bass can do dub through to 'tinkle' all with it's flats being active the bass is firmly in the middle of an active output I'd suggest. Nothing too lively. So tonally most varied.
23. It'd go with my pillbox hat
24.
A certain Harlot 5-string may become available, but a 62RI would have to enter the equation, too
Hehe, now that's definitely one of the two staying Rich, even if it is just a Fender. I got a good one and I'm keeping hold of it.
25. The Warmoth is a 1954 Warmoth P body in Korina with a 21 fret 34" scale Birdseye maple neck. The detailing is very good on this neck. The pickup is a Hammon Engineering Darkstar routed into the P pickup position. I built the bas from parts about 2 years ago. The neck is a Warmoth Jazz profile and has reinforcing rods giving a very stable but not ultra thin neck. http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/P-Bass/54pbass.aspx http://www.warmoth.com/Bass/Necks/StandardNecks.aspx http://www.hammoneng.com/ Bridge is a Gotoh 201 and the tuners are Hipshot Ultralites with a D-tuner. The body is an oiled finish (tung) and is now waxed monthly with Warwick wax. The Neck is finished with the hard drying Tru-Oil gun stock oil. The pre-amp is filter based with one low pass and one high pass filter. The knobs are vol/lp/hp and the low pass has a resonant peak control with a boost on the high pass. Intuitive once you get a feel for how they work. http://www.acguitars.co.uk/News/91/ I'm looking for £500 or thereabouts. Peter
