Mmm, that's some classy bass porn you have there. Which one would you pick as your 'desert island bass'?
The Harlot without a doubt. It was made for me after all. Closely followed by the NS5

Wood coloured would be my vote i.e. clear lacquer over good wood. Failing that, peach - seriously!

Well Rich, early signs are that tone wise it's not a million miles away from the NS. A bit lighter which has to be a good thing too. It's only when you have an NS and a Euro that you realise what the extra dosh gets you imo. Both great basses but the quality of the NS oozes out and puts the very good Euro firmly in it's place.
I want to ghet my hands on that whitey and the water cured one. Greenking if you don't mind me asking why did you change the the original Aguilar preamp on that one and how much it cost you the bass not the preamp?
I like to have control of my mids. I like a slightly mid heavy tone and find the bass and treble cut and boost something I tend to keep flat. I traded a mint Rickenbacker 4001 Chris Squire for the NS5, so we're talking at least £2k. It's a Chinese made Eastman, Chinese but not a cheapie. It's a beautiful thing.

I'm down to 6 basses which is a near miracle. There's been some comings and going over the past week or two but I feel like this could be it for the foreseeable future (he said). 1st is my ACG pair, well not quite an ACG pair but my ACG Harlot with the ACG01 pre-amp and my Warmoth Darkstar with the ACG02 pre-amp. The Harlot is a very special custom bass. The Warmoth is shod with Pyramid Gold flats that are an 'old school' revelation. Next a pair of Spectors. These are my main playing basses at the moment while I work towards being totally at home with 5 strings. 17mm at the bridge and 35" scale. The redwood (water cured doncha know) one is a US NS-5XL with a U-Retro and the white one is a special order Euro 5 LX with the $500 upgraded 9v 2EQ Ppre-amp of old. and for those among you who find white stilettos and too much gold jewellery somehow attractive (well I am an Essex boy): Finally Fenders, a Marcus Miller IV with a Sadowsky 2EQ pre-amp and an American Vintage 62 re-issue P bass that surprised me so much I had to buy it. and just for completeness, stringed things: I'm a lucky bunny Peter

Thank you David, I think my camera is crying out to be used in a minute Spectors are lovely basses but the output needs to be managed.

I may be teaching granny to suck eggs but are you aware that the tonepump is boost only i.e. that the midway setting on the tone controls is not flat. Spector call flat when both tone controls are backed right off (that's what Spector say but others say flat is when they are wound up a little). I'm not a huge Tonepump fan myself. My Euro LX 5, that arrived today as it happens ( ) has one of these in place of the Tonepump, http://www.spectorbass.com/zen2/index.php?...;products_id=28 a worthwhile investment. A lot of people ditch the Tonepump in favour of a U-retro, Aguilar, EMG or Bartolini pre, from experience an ACG pre also works very effectively. I put a U-Retro into my NS5XL so I've got a spare one of these: http://www.spectorbass.com/zen2/index.php?...;products_id=27 But it's an 18V pre. Fender Precision Bass 1965 / L Series / Olympic White
Nice one. I hope you're NOT playing it live. Please don't do that!! If it's never been played and with the original strings and accessories you've got a museum piece there, a potential gold mine! Knock the paint off something else and appreciate this one for what it really is, a cracking investment piece.
I'd go with that, seems a shame to ding it after all these years. If it is
ones that didn't sound great and so didn't get used
then it doesn't matter. Museum piece sounds okay. -

Fender Precision Bass 1965 / L Series / Olympic White
GreeneKing replied to pepone2401's topic in Gear Gallery
That is quite something. I'm not Fender's No1 fan by any means (unlike some who will be along to ooh and aah in a min) but that is a classic. Worth a pretty penny I've no doubt. The fact that I've got it's 09 twin (AV 62 Re-issue) might elevate my appreciation somewhat They really are remarkably similar. Welcome too btw. -

I think that sharing these 'special moments' is a great idea, it may help with GAS too (or make it worse). -

I play root, 5th chords in one song. I should have asked this question years ago but what exactly is a 'double stop'? There's always one and it's usually me. Peter -
