1. I think you'll find that the vast majority of the necks on eBay, unless stated, will be for a Fender fit. You'll be lucky to find one that'll function well with the Cort I'd guess, at least not without some woodwork. If you want a fretted Cort maybe best to sell yours and buy another.
2. I gave the strings a good wipe over and no blackening after 2 hrs band practice. perhaps it should have been done in the factory and was omitted for some reason.
3.
A quick update; Dave's just been down with his Ray and it won't fit in this case! The body is too wide and top horn too long to fit the moulding, so be warned this is for the skinnier Sterling basses (surprised both of us how much difference there was).
Doh, I could have told you that, apols. I tried fitting my Ray into what I believe is that very case.
4. I paid just over £1300 for the P, from Promenade Music in Morecambe.
5. I've used Interparcel many times now both UK and abroad. You can get a quote immediately although if you want to insure the price can go right up (I generally do for the peace of mind). You need a contact number for the recipient too. Peter
6. I'm thinking about it Al. No
7. Apols if I'd have read your OP more thoroughly I'd have realised that Does the head have a compressor?
8. I can't speak for the 62 Jazz but my American Vintage 62 re-issue P (at the risk of droning on about it too much) is beautifully finished in nitro cellulose, a great example of Fenders better work and it sounds absolutely awesome and is an example of a very good Fender. It carries the retro vibe very well. I'm not certain they are all this good though so I'd try before I bought one. Hope that helps a little. Peter
9. Could the string be too close to the pickup? If it's an active bass I've had the same problem and it was due to a discharged battery.
10. Yes that's the thing really, I always play nickels and in many years this is the 1st time new strings have done this. Oh well....
11. I much prefer nickel strings so ordered a set of Sadowsky nickel plated strings from the States, extra long and with a tapered 130 to fit the Spector Euro LX 5 bridge as some strings struggle to go into the slot. The old strings were fine but I just don't like the feel of stainless streel strings and they have a brightness that I don't want. Whilst practicing for about an hour tonight I noticed my fingertips were getting black on both hands. I've had this once before with used strings on my Peavey T-40 and put it down to dirty old strings and chucked them away, they were very dead sounding too. These were new uncut strings however. Anyone else come across this with Sadowsky nickels? They sound okay. I have fairly dry hands and strings normally last me forever. I probably have at least 20 sets of slightly used strings around the house tucked away, must sort them out and put them up for grabs Peter
12. The Mono's fit my Spector 35" scale 5ers with room to spare.
13.
A well built bass cab will be internally lined with some kind of sound absorbent material to stop midrange from the backwave being reflected and messing up the sound. Alex
I take that as a compliment to Aguilar
14.
I think thats the only thing about it im not %100 keen on although its not over the top i guess, ive seen worse
You are right, at least it's not overly reliced and just looks like a very well cared for old Fender. I'd have to travel to try it out before committing that sort of money I think. Not that I'm interested but it does look nice. If I wanted an older style Jazz I think I'd check out the American Vintage 75 re-issues based on my P experience.
15. Ville has been an absolute gent, amusing and honest, and most straightforward. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him in any future dealings. Peter
16.
i put one on my mij p and it sounds so much better.
If it works for you then great but I don't think they're the answer to every maiden's prayer Back on track, I'd want a new looking one for that too.
17.
needs a badass II
Why? I think Badass's are overrated btw, despite having fitted a few and having one on my MM. My AV P sounds awesome with bent tin
18. Two sagging buttocks is the way to go, eventually
19. Ahh... £47.50P
20. 1. At home, bass and fretboard cleaning, changing strings, neck relief, action, replacing bridge, replacing pre-amp, changing pickups, neck pocket shimming, strap buttons and locks. 2. Vertically using alternate foot and knee for relief. Otherwise horizontal on table or carpet. 3. Not really.
21. Mono are great, really good. The Body Glove ones are good too, especially for the money Soundslive were selling them for.
22. Result, good news, now let's perhaps drop it i.e. to err is human, to strive for divine retribution is about you not them.
23.
I've not owned both but I've been in the same position in having to choose, played a couple of NS's and owned a Euro 6 for a while then settled on neither. Well, technically I went with the Euro but one of the older NS5CR basses where the spec was virtually the same as the NS of that time apart from the preamp. My main gripes with Spectors (EMG's and the preamp) have been addressed with replacements and I believe I have a bass now that is better than any other I've ever tried (including the NS, my Smiths, Alembic yada yada). So another NS5CR is on its way to me in NZ plus I got lucky and paid about 10-15% of what a new NS5XL might cost. If I was able to, I'd be quite happy to do an A/B with anyone's NS5XL simply out of personal curiosity. My natural Spector doesn't sound like a Spector now either but it sort of sounds like all the best bits of Alembic and Smith rolled into one instrument. Less rawk and more funk, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Having owned a Tonepump Euro 4 and played Alan's (NGH) Euro 5 I'd say that the bulk of the 'rawk' (not all of it) is born in the Tonepump Pre. The NS5 doesn't have the Tonepump of course but the 18 HazLabs cut and boost 2EQ which adds versatility. I like the 3rd EQ, the mids and the U-Retro adds that dimension superbly but doesn't tame the beast. My White Euro has the 9v HazLabs 2EQ fitted as an (expensive) option and is surprisingly similar in tone to the NS5 before the U-Retro was fitted. Both basses are very versatile and can do warm and if you like your funk agressive warm they do it well. There were some songs we played where my Euro 4 with Tonepump just couldn't get the tone, both these do. I don't know if that helps. I'd love to A/B the two especially as NZ is most definitely the closest I've come to Nirvana on this planet but I don't expect you'll cough up BA Business Class? Peter
24.
Is that the same as asymmetrical radius or would asymmetric refer to a radius change across the neck rather than along the length of the neck?
I'd say that assymetrical would be as you suggest, across the neck.
