1. I found that the SVT sound, that it did really well, wasn't for me. I thought I'd love it but realise that I'm more of a 'clean and heavy on the mids' sorta guy Peter
2. Russ Are you living in Moffat now then? (looks a lot like where we has the bash ) Very workmanlike set of basses there and I'm not at all surprised that the Flea impressed at volume.
3. This'll be a great gig. Having seen the band twice last year I'd just like to say how much I enjoyed it, musically and a great fun bunch too.
4. Stuart (BassBunny) has a pair of Zoots that I know he loves.
5. Great bunch of basses, shame about the headstocks on the Statii
6. Want to be a bassist and do tricks? Maybe try guitar? Bass is SERIOUS business doncha know
7. That's one stunning Spector there Johnny
8. I've had 18 months in a band with someone I've tried to like, and failed completely. Take one self centred narcissistic guitar player who is tired of practicing alone and wants to be a 'rock god' to impress his mates 'down the pub'. He recruits a band, pretends he wants to perform and move forward but really just wants to have a free backing band. He only wants to play his style of music that is narrow and quite bigoted, he won't learn the words or the chords, he won't listen to advice at all and continues in behaving in a way that winds everyone up. 18 months later we've done 3 gigs and he's all hot air and lies. I confront him and it's me that's the problem, that and the obvious personality clash I have with him. Yes I think I do really dislike him
9. No trades, sorry, I already have 2 5 string basses to die for and need some money. Peter
sure you're not interested in trades?
10. VT Bass sold pending....
11. Well this must be a record for the most delayed bump ever. I'm heading South this weekend from Kendal to North Essex via the M6/A14 and back via the M4 if anyone is interested in this great bass. Peter
12. Both pedals are pretty much mint. The VT Bass has velcro on the rear and comes in it's tin with all the bits. I'm sure I have the box for the Radial too, somewhere. I realise that the Radial pedal isn't an effect as such but it allows you to connect two basses into an amp and switch between the two with a pad to balance signals and a tuner out. VT Bass £90 delivered UK, Radial £45 likewise
13. The outrageous fortunes of slings and arrows, or something like that Tis amusing how life progresses. I'm no longer single and things in that direction are very good. Life is very good. My new lady is a biker. I gave up biking nearly 3 years ago after about 37 years and sold everything, absolutely everything. Now I'm planning on getting on the road again, trips to Europe in the Summer in the planning stages etc. But, being a student on placement means I have no income and can't work. The NS5 was going to have to go Tragedy indeed. But, I've bought an older bike (BMW R1100RS) and the NS5 can stay but it's shiny sibling needs to go. This bass is special in more ways than one. First it's white, very white and in very nice condition indeed. Next comes the pre-amp. I like to have onboard control of my mids and this U-Retro Deluxe has sweepable mids. John has produced a one off model to fit in the 4 hole body with all the options including active/passive switching and a passive tone control (like Sadowsky's VTC). It has Vol/balance, Bass/treble, sweepable mids and the passive tone control that also acts as a pull knob active passive switch. I really do wish that this bass didn't have to go. It has conventional strap buttons fitted at the moment but I will include Schaller strap locks as fitted standard. A brand new set of Sadowsky nickels .130 fitted with tapered B. Comes with Spector case in great condition. I'm looking for £1050 (Now £1000 including UK shipping although collection is preferred). I'm hopefully travelling South from Kendal this w/e so delivery may be an option too.
14. The only Fender that I own has a BBOT and it's the best I've heard. Done the BadAss thing several times and I can't hear the difference in terms of a worthwhile improvement (you then have to ask yourself why I kept fitting them ). Is it only me that thinks that eternal sustain (or even sustain increased above and beyond BBOT sustain) is never, ever used when actually playing?
15. I wasn't being entirely sarcastic with the 'volume' comment Pairing an 8 ohm 2 x 10 with an 8 ohm 1 x 8 won't be very balanced. Half of your amp's power will be going to each cab working the 1 x 8 hard and the 2 x 10 will be barely ticking over. I don't understand your reasoning. You only need one rig to cover all the bases. From your description of your needs 800w (750 in the specs) is overkill. Take my rig, a 450w into 4 ohm amp and two 1 x 12 8 ohm cabs rated at 300w each. First one man's 5000w watts isn't another's. Amp ratings vary and I have a back up 500w amp that's no where near as loud and my 450w one. By using the amp with either one or both cabs I have one balanced rig that does it all pretty much. With one cab I can even use it for very quiet home practice if I turn the volme right down. I've also done pub gigs with just the one cab. Using both cabs gives oodles of 'go'. Peter
16. A 4ohm cab doesn't mean that you have to put out 750Watts There's a knob called 'volume' or something similar Have the cab at 4ohms gives you all the options, from quiet to 750watts, otherwise why not just buy a cheaper 500w amp? Peter
17. Why 8ohms? A 4ohm cab will allow you use the amp up to it's max output. Unless of course you already have an 8 Ohm cab you want to pair it with (as opposed to a 8" cab) I'd have thought that a lightweight 4 ohm 2x12 would suit your purpose better? Or have I missed something? Peter
18. A whole lot of rock uses the Blues/altered blues scale. Riffs also translate well through the chord progression. The 12 bar pattern gives a good anchor and it's great for jam nights. It's also a genre that is, imo, underrated musically. Peter
19. In my world there's considerable difference between saying that you don't like something or that it doesn't float your boat and labeling it lame The interweb however is a flawed medium for expressing oneself.
20. Could you not see the smile on Hodgies face as he was playing? To say it was lame is just well, extremely lame in itself imo. No it not bass as we know it Jim but it's superb playing and a great rendition of the song played unusually and brilliantly on a bass. Very talented and very enjoyable. Not to be taken uber seriously and perhaps a more open attitude would help? All imo. Peter
21.
Bath tub curve?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bathtub_curve Basically, things tend to either fail early due to inbuilt manufacturing faults or late due to age. The graph of failure rate against time looks like a bath tub.
22. Oh Dear Mark Sounds like the bath-tub curve has struck again. I've heard of very few failures but those have been dealt with pretty damn expediently. Peter
23. It's worth adding methinks that this is an outboard rack mounted pre-amp not an onboard. Peter
24. It's a P bass with two Jazz pups
