To the person that received my free set of La Bella flatwounds...

He's probably an evil deviant who deserves public humiliation and a good flogging. Or maybe he forgot? It wasn't me btw -
Hiya all Bass Chatters, I've been a bit quiet of late but for good rreason. New lady in my life, moved, very involved in my 2nd work placement, taken up motorcycling again having thought 'that's it' 3 years ago (that's what you get for falling for a biker). Life's good and less BC for me is about having more 'life' i.e. a good thing I'm still playing and far from having over 20 basses as of old only one bass gets a look in nowadays, my Status Empathy 5 with 15mm spacing. It's so right for me that Alan (Skelf) is making me a headless Ghallus with the same spacing. So my rather special NS5 Lt Ed is up for sale. It has a John East U Retro fitted to add tonal range in comparison to the original Spector unit. It is in great condition and is rather special (ask a few who've played it). I've borrowed Alanbass1's pics to get the thread started but will add my own in a bit. The bass comes with a Spector hard case, a Comfort Strapp and two new sets of Newtone strings with a tapered B. The Spector Limited Edition Redwood Burl NS-5XL is crafted with 75-to-100 year-old, water-cured redwood burl. The burl rests on a platform of Spector's legendary hand-selected, premium exotic woods: maple for the neck and black walnut for the body wings. Water-cured redwood is harvested from the stumps of redwood trees cut down 75-100 years ago that fell into streams. These trunks were submerged in water the entire time, which washed all the resins out of the wood and replaced them with dissolved minerals. This natural mineral enrichment process is what gives the wood its unique color and density. This natural water curing is very similar to the method that has been used for curing violin woods in Europe for hundreds of years. Unlike these photos it has gold and black knobs. Collection preferred, can deliver a reasonable distance/meet up halfway from Kendal. £2,200 The U-Retro 01 specs can be viewed here: http://www.east-uk.com/ Here's one of the knobs: and one alongside the white LX

Making Rickenbacker More Playable - Gig In Two Hours!
Sound advice from robocorpse She does have a high action for a Ric. My 4001 has a seriously low action. It does look in need of a good set up, just be careful that you take it to someone that knows what they are doing with Ric's. The twin trussrod system needs to be adjusted in a specific way, as the rods work differently to other basses.
Errr, maybe they don't. There is two of them on the 4003 though. Many Ric owners use a neck with no relief but I always preferred a slight amount. One flat on each rod usually does it. Peter -
Took the TC out agains last night and mated it with my Thumb bass. Seems like I'm getting the hang of this head with my active basses now. Definately not a plug in, line everything up flat and play amp if you want to get the best out of it.
Give us an idea of your settings Alan. How's the CS btw

The patina of the fingerboard makes it look it's age imo. The number on the neck plate is actually more like L10963 than L1963 I think. I don't know much about Fenders but I'd say it warrants a look if you're interested and have the spondoolahs.
Can anyone comment on how they compare to the 12" Wizzy or M-Line. I have a Wizzy+MLine (2ohm combined) which I like a lot, but am considering moving to a 4 ohm setup instead (for amp reasons). Peter, have you tried your pair with the RH450? Sound OK?
I haven't tried a pair but just the one 8 ohm cab (complete with 4ohm driver ) sounded good. As the RH will go down to 2.7 ohms anyway I suspect that 2 CXL's at 2 ohms will be fine. My iAmp 800 through one is great, 2 to be tried in anger sometime soon hopefully. The iAmp is supposed to chuck out up to 1000w at 2 ohms I believe. -
Don't rule out EA Wizzy cabs (especially the MLines).
I had a quick look at the Wizzy cabs John but aren't they rated at quite a low wattage. Funny but true - EA CX112 8 ohm cabs have 4 ohm drivers in them ( ) , which explains why: 1. LM heads shut down when using a pair 2. EA heads (that go down to 2 ohms) sound so good through them, positively come alive even. Peter
That's exactly how you are supposed to do it...I've been using mine, with straplocks too, for nearly 4 years and never had a problem.
Absolutely correct and great staps (strapps) imo.

Right, now this is complex so sit down and have a cuppa I have a pair of Aguilar DB112's that are great cabs, really excellent. They have Aggie padded covers and one is an NT (no tweeter). I need a pair of EA CX112 cabs. A good friend is happy to do a swap with an EA for the tweeter equipped Aguilar but not the other. So, for sale is a Chocolate brown Aguilar DB112 NT with the official padded and expensive cover for £300. Also consider trading for one EA CX112 or sale of pair for £600 or trade of pair for pair of EA CX112's. Would also consider a trade of the DB112NT for any good quality cab that fits the bill. See I said it was a bit complex. Reason? EA heads definitely need EA cabs to perform at their best imo. Peter

Anti-clockwise loosens the trussrod (with some fairly rare exceptions) and allows for more relief in the neck.
